Why don't we like Alex now?
I like Alex, but he went down in spectacular fashion. A flurry of IP bans, deleted posts, TOR proxies and drama. It was glorious, but completely deserving of ridicule.
He's able to come back but he chooses not to.

Not really. Blue red will still be good.

I'm surprised they banned Pod, but I definitely approve.

Hey, now I can get a cheap foil pod for edh. Nice!

Nobody said it won't be good. But it did lose some power.

I am not surprised at the Pod ban. It has won so many GPs lately that they really had no choice if they wanted to stay true to their beliefs on Modern.

A million tears will be shed today and i fully intend to bathe in them.

What beliefs? That you can't invest in a good deck and expect it to stick?

I'll "miss" playing against Pod.

Well there is that. I was meaning more Wizards saying that any deck that starts dominating will be looked into.

Re: Alex The only thing that miffles me a bit is that he took down Lightning_dolt's Mardu Midrange article in his frontpage deletion rage. Thing is although he had put it up first, I had been keeping up with the deck updates which had been a pain in the ass in updating. While I understand that he wanted to take is ball home with him and taking down his content, he also deleted that one and it is unfair to L_D who had nothing to do with this drama.

Fortunately there is a backup I made in the wake of the Omar Drupal hacking drama, but its still extra work I could do without.

Pod seems like the kind of card that they should restrict to 1 or 2 per deck if they were willing to add that level of complexity to the ban list.

Posted: Mon Jan 19, 2015 5:34 pm
by BlakLanner
I don't think they will ever restrict anything other than in Vintage.

I am not overly surprised at Modern but the Legacy ban is very disappointing. My $1000 investment into Cruise Burn just became pointless.
Buying duels is never pointless

Not just the duals, although Volcs are going to drop in value. The foil Cruises, Swiftspears, Leylines, etc. All just trade fodder now.

Yeah, for the sake of keeping the list clean-looking. But logically, it makes sense. You can't have a Birthing Pod deck with only one Pod (well, I guess my Riku commander deck is an exception). There, it's just a value card. Restricting it takes out the Pod archetype without making a fair card unusable.

Hell, I don't even like junk colors and I still think that would be the most logical thing.

You mean you didn't expect a ban? Not even a little?

Not really. The format was adjusting pretty well. 3 decks with Cruise in the last Open. Two were the new RUG Delver decks and one was a Grixis Control brew.

Cruise probably will (although given its played in standard, you can probably still get some value, and it's probably good in edh) but the rest will probably retain a decent chunk of its value, especially Leyline (which is a staple in modern iirc)

Volc may drop some but in the long term it will only go up, so long as the reserve list is a thing

At worst, you can probably trade all of them to pick up some judge promo lightning bolts instead of those full art ones ;)

I may do just that. I have wanted a set since GPNJ.
