Recap of bad beats from yesterday cause I feel like complaining.

Game 2, round 1, opponent at 3, 5 turns to draw dig or burn, blank die.

Round 4, game 1, dig through time, see in order land, stokex2, valorous stancex4. Needed a creature or a cheap burn spell.

Round 8 game 2. I read my opponent for jeskai charm and new he was gonna blow me out but I was banking on drawing one of my 3 angers. My hand is dig, Elspeth and something. He attacks with double rabble, 7 tokens and seeker. I block both rabbles, he charms and gains like 30 life dealing me fifteen. I untap, whiff, dig whiff. Game 3, hand is stacked but I end up fetching once with 2 basics in hand, draw the fourth basic followed by strand 3 and 4. Ended up using a strand as a lotus petal for a dig, draw no red source for the anger in hand.

I had some sweet games, where I destroyed an abzan control deck where I played a dig with buyback and had both keranos and outpost siege going. There was a game where I abzan advantaged to make a seeker a 3/3 at the end of my opponents turn, then angered killing a rabble and token using a slash and strike to clean up a Stormbreath and brimaz followed up by an attack to gain 6 life and stabilize me vs. RW. I also won an unwinnable game vs. Green devotion where I topdecked perfect spells for 4 turns in a row.

Mostly though, had a ton of bad variance over the weekend. Won 1 die roll in 8 rounds. Lost all game ones for the first 5 rounds. Mulled upwards of 10 times in my first 13 games. Was miserable.

Won my IQ today playing jeskai tempo.

Beat Abzan, 2x UB, and RW the ndouble drew. beat Sultai, lost to GR (opponent conceeded [friend of mine] since he was already que'ed), then beat UB in Finals.

Wish I had those matchups at the open.

Good job. Surprised you didn't run RW.

Ran RW at a pptq yesterday, scrubbed hard. I felt like I had to live too much off the top of my deck (either miss land drops with a lot of spells stranded, or drew too many lands), also couldn't figure a way to make the UB/Gr matchups better. Mirror also felt like a crap shoot.

Ben starks wrecking the Gp in Memphis with RW. Running 4 grandmasters, I think 4 outpost siege and has all his dragons in the board.

I also played jeskai though cause I didn't have enough time to develop mirror tech besides circle of flame.

Anyone have articles / strategies for not tilting? I'm trying to better myself and looking for places to start.

Be comfortable with the idea that you could lose all your matches. Know top pros Gp win% is generally around 66%(x-3).

Basically there's a lot of stuff that's outside of your control, so just deal with it. If you must tilt off, do it in between rounds, not games. Learn to compartmentalize.

Know that over the course of your life sometimes you will be down and sometimes you will be up and as long as your up over the course of your life, you won.

Funny story: me and friends play modern on cockatrice with our various different band lists. Was playing UW tron vs. Melira pod. Pod gains infinite life.

He asks if I concede.

I say watch this.

I emrakeul him annihilating his board minus a finks which persists, then I verdict pass. Eot gifts for emrakeul, rev, verdict, gifts. he gives me rev and verdict. I pass, rev for bunch.

Game goes on until he figures out I can replay emrakeul and verdict it forever and deck him since emrakeul reshuffles back in.

His tears were delicious.

All I see are Siege Rhinos failing when they were needed most. Most glorious indeed. May we feast on rhino meat and gain cosmic power!

Top 8'ing is not failing and losing to Ben Stark is not failing and putting 5 copies into top 8 is not failing, may I stop now

In most of the games Stark won, they where very elementary. The one game of the finals that he won though was pretty impressive considering how patient he was playing around bile blights every turn and holding his burn spells.

There were 20 Siege Rhinos in the Top 8. I think that qualifies as a stampede.
