BBD's articles are usually good just because BBD is generally a likeable person and that comes through his writing.
He's also REALLY good.

Lost round 1. Game 1, he drew 2 with humble defector into reality shifted then barraged me for lethal the next turn. game 2, he defators into barrage for value killing it and a bond kin. Then he jeerings me loxodon into reality shifts. I stabilize, but he counters my duneblast then plays 3 creatures. Topdecks aven surveyor. Rough beats.

Lost game 2 to the clock. Beat a turn 5 palace siege game 1. I'm 3, he's at 30, I flame rush rider and attack with it, mystic of the hidden way and the clone mystic, then jeskai charm for lifelink. Couple turns later, eventual hit green for duneblast and leave a tasigur in play and race him with that and high sentinels I draw. Lose game two to slight misplay(would've lost anyways to 4/4 lightform). Timed out game 3. Time out only happened because it took me literally twice as long for me to tap my lands then his because most of mine where dual lands. I HATE modo.

Going 0-2 with a strong deck is beyond tilting. Probably still gonna play for packs since I cleared my whole day to play.

LP, holding M while tapping your land (click the spell first) will automatically choose colors when you tap dual lands.

Still a pain if you're used to paper.

I thought this chose only native color.

From the wizards page -

M – "Auto-Tap Mana (hold)"
Holding this key while clicking land for mana will cause the system to automatically choose the color of mana to pull from that land, if it can provide multiple colors, based on the spell you are attempting to cast. You must click the spell to cast it first, before tapping the land for mana, for this to have any effect.

Just won with zero on my timer due to barely recovering from a dropped connection.

So much BS I've had to deal with today.

Going to have to bite the bullet soon and buy my standard deck on Modo methinks. I'm going to double my efforts in preparation for GP: Toronto once Dragons comes out.

I am also about to make a sizable investment on MODO. I simply do not have the luxury of testing nearly as much as the other spikes here in paper events, and I REALLY need the practice.

Also, I'm having to decide between the Atlanta Open and GP, and if I go to the GP I need to make big improvements in Limited.

was looking through my PWP history and found this little gem from GP Boston this past summer:

6 Loss (+0) Ross, Thomas

thought the sycophants may find that amusing.

James, what are your thoughts on Hoogland making Top 8 at SCG Baltimore with Temur Moons (that name sounds like the title of a soft core porn)?

I'm happy that smug fucker did good today, personally. The guy absolutely loves Modern, and aside from his occasional rants, he's a real ambassador for the format. He's all heart, that one. Good for him today.

Like, people were actively rooting for Todd Anderson to beat him. What kind of world do we live in?

I was working and missed all the live coverage.

He's been getting hate ever since his outspoken stance on social media about the last Modern banning and his POV on Legacy.

One his bad qualities is that some of his articles tend to come off very passive-aggressive and whiny, even to the point where I'm annoyed. But with that said, I think he's a good Magic player and understands Modern very well. His work ethic is respectable, imo.

Still, you know how vicious that chat can be. It's enough to make me lose complete faith in Magic players at times. I remember watching that GP coverage before the bannings where Pod won versus Stephen Speck's Amulet Bloom. The guy playing Pod was a pretty big dude, but played very well. Anyways, the guy wins and it's literally nothing but fat jokes, even in the face of victory. This just won a GP, something that nobody in that chat had accomplished, and it was nothing but vile comments on his weight. Hearing that there was some negativity directed towards Hoogland is not surprising.

It disgusts me. And it's not even good trolling at times. It's just poison.

And truth be told, it wasn't until SCG turned back on their chat that I started to realize what I now post online and even how I conduct myself IRL. Call getting older, call it being aware of how I come off, call it what you will - seeing how others like that conduct themselves online made me think about how I do.

He has an opinion and expresses it openly. Hence the hate. Unless you're big timing it, you can't have an open opinion on a popular topic without getting a shitton of backlash. Hell even then it may not save you. PV's inbox was full of illiterate replies and rants about Modern ever since he wrote his article.

Hoogland is a good mate of mine and we're regularly chatting about decks. I think a lot of the criticism is valid - he's very sure he's right about all things (for a long time he said Young Pyro wasn't good in modern for example); but he's a fun guy and is very hardworking. Very loving father too. I'm a fan and super happy he had success.

His "fans" are garbage children fwiw and UR Faeries was always terrible.

Josh I'm so glad you talked me out if replying to every comment after Cruise was banned, though I think the guy saying I should be fired and that Hatebears would rule the format deserved a response.

A few are special. But yeah, I didn't want you to waste the next few months of your life replying to everyone. I figured the ban would happen before you finished.

So I attended a 6-round FNM on Friday. 36 people. That's a big FNM. I abandoned RW Aggro this time and played Sultai control, and despite doing poorly I had a lot of fun with it. The deck is pretty hard to play.

I wish Drownyard was still in Standard.

That reminds me of the time when I played Merfolk in Modern. People didn't know how to react when I opened with an Island.
