I guess the "fuck diversity" crowd is happy
It's one weekend. These decks could end up just being another GW Devotion.

I'll be happy if Esper Dragons, GW/x Megamorph, and one more deck stay on the top until Origins.
More like 3 weekends in a row. G/W devotion didn't take over the format like Esper is doing.

Not that I really care of course, I bought my Ojutais before they were $30 a piece.

It would be better if complete noobs weren't making the deck look mediocre.

The two Esper opponents I had were quite beatable. I thoroughly dismantled my first in a fake feature match and the second nearly fell to me even on multiple mulligans.

did the last modern masters inflate prices or bring them down? Obviously it should bring them down some, but goyf is still at an unreasonable price.

The chase cards went up. A lot of the midrange cards held value or went down a little.

They dipped for a couple weeks when released then went up. The first mm had 2 things that won't be shared to the same degree by the second. Small print run and raised interest in the format. They've already said mm2015 will be a larger print run than the first and I doubt it will bring as many people to the format. So larger supply and smaller or equal demand.

The majority of the rares permanently dropped, any of the chase uncommons that gor reprinted lost min. 50% of their value. Mythics dropped for about a month and then went right back up as people starting buying into Modern in droves.

Do you see room in the market for the same type of "buying into Modern in droves?" If not, that coupled with the higher print run should mean even the chase mythics dropping and not going up as quickly.

That said, I'm sure there are still plenty of Modern (and Legacy) players who haven't gotten their sets of Tarmogoyf yet, so even without additional growth there's still some room in the current Modern player base for demand on these cards.

I'm optimistic about prices this time around, but who knows.

My brother in law thought every black person was Michael Jordan when he was a kid.
In his defense I thought the new fantastic four movie was going to be the sequel to space jam.

It did virtually nothing to the prices and then as time passed they inflated. The new goyf art actually caused both goyfs to go up in value.

The majority of MM rares arent modern staples, though. So "on the whole" that is most certainly true, but I think the only rare/mythics that got hosed long term after MM were Elspeth (who also had a duel deck), the pacts, and ??? The swords dipped and went back up, ravager didn't have anything substantial happen... Blinkmoth Nexus? I'm on a phone or Id confirm these, but my fevered scanning of prices seems to tell a different tale with MM rares and mythics.
Spell snare and path got hit hard, though. Same with finks. That's spot on.

The price of remand could have gone up and you'd probably say something ridiculous like "I guess delver strategies are becoming more popular" instead of using your brain and accepting it was just random chance or the work of the white male greek god Zeus.

Magic is a constantly changing game. Adapt to the changing metagame or lose to it. It's how the game develops every new Standard. Aggro decks tend to dominate until Midrange decks come along at which point Control takes advantage of the slowed game state. Rinse, repeat. And then players whine about it until it changes again.

It's the circle of Magic.
Like it was constantly changing in RTR-THS Standard, when it was solved within a month and didn't change for a year?

A solved format is a solved format. DTK Standard is a solved format, and Esper Dragaons wins it.
That's the wisdom of ages right there, that is.

I've seen something like this deck...somewhere.

It's definitely 75 legal magical cards.

Top 4 at RPTQ Kansas City: Soulflayer Chromanticore, Abzan Megamorph, UB Dragons, and Esper Dragons in that order. Guess the format isn't solved after all.

Actually, I'm finding it a rather interesting comment on how players within an MMO interact with each other. The part with Yui, the sentient caregiver program, reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy VII and Aerith and how players reacted to her death in the game. It's certainly not what I expected it to be, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
