Mommy, daddy, please don't fight. I promise I'll be better.
Son, I want you to know that no matter what happens between your mother and me, it's all your fault.

I've since trained myself to be pretty normal overall. It's certainly deliberate though.
Normal is overrated.
Amen to that.

Normality are the shackles in which complacence and ennui fester. Unyoke yourself from societal expectation! Grow and thrive in the unique manner defined only by yourself. Life should be an wild adventure, not a normal destination.
Well said, lorddax...who defines &
quot;normal" anyway?

EDIT: And yes, lightbulb goes on. Just to clarify, I would have used the above explanation in a discussion with my son over a similar point (we have lots of social story type talks; he has to intellectualize the things that others can pick up on emotional radar). He, like you is mild and high-functioning, remarkable intellect with impaired social skills. Dammit Alex...thanks for letting me know what my next 10 years are apt to look like. ;-)
Maybe your son will have it easier than I did, but when I was a kid, I had a REALLY rough time with kids my age. I almost certainly spent more time at home than I did in school during my high school years, where the bullying really
hit an all-time high. Looking back, I'm sure a large part of it was because I fought back, but I was basically constantly singled out because I was different.

I didn't handle it very well, either. I'd always get in fights, and it eventually got the the point where I almost got expelled. If not for my mom pulling strings and getting me into a local magnet school, it's pretty likely that I would have been literally bullied out of school.

I learned a lot from that experience though. Looking back, it wasn't even that long ago, (I'm only 24.) but I look at how far I've come since then and I just can't believe I'm the same person. Talking to me back then, you'd know immediately that I was more than a little "off," but now nobody would be able to tell at all unless I told them.

Seriously though, english is not my primary language so I don't want to defend my point because I'd lack the tools to achieve such a task against you guys, but I want to post this bit anyway...
I think I understand Alex's point, and I also do understand everyone else's point as well, I just think that the whole discussion is not going in the right direction: he's trying to troll MTGS' staff by using a "hot word" in a way that CAN be taken as offensive in order to defend himself by sayin' that such offense is in the eye of the beholder - thus implying that they're a bunch of hypocrites.

The point you're arguing over is the usage of the word "autistic", but he just doesn't care - he could have said homo, for that matter - I think we should rather discuss the fact that advertising this place in a potentially offensive way (deliberately doing so) has more cons than the pros you get by trying to lure
Sally's staff in exposing itself.

I don't think Alex can give you what you guys want: a sincere apology.

Even if he didn't mean to offend you guys(his friends in particular) he MEANT to be offensive so any apology would merely be an appeasement with no actual sincerity behind it. Not to say the discussion is mute or anything but...the point of the post WAS to come of dickish.

I say this as I've been in similar situations before. I say X is retarded. Someone says they have retarded family members and it's offensive. I could say I have a retarded uncle and it doesn't mean anything to me, but that won't change how they feel. The best I can do is say "sorry you got upset" but I wouldn't be honest if I said I'm not going to ever use the term retarded again because I will and for me personally, I don't really give a shit.

On the one hand, freedom of speech shouldn't be freedom to be a dick. On the other hand, I can't always let other
peoples feelings dictate my actions. All depends really on if how you feel about the consequences of X actions and there potential to affect your life in the future.

Nah, if you don't have the freedom to be a dick, you don't have free speech. Alex is free to be a dick, everyone else is free to tell him they think he's a dick, and then we all get back to talking about the best dick of them all: red's. No harm done, yeah??

Though I do think the sig is tasteless, and doesn't reflect well on either our clan or the site in general. It just makes us seem like petty assholes.

Happy birthday Platypus!

Without delving too deep into the last two pages, 'normal' is something that isn't real; everyone has problems and weaknesses and fears and can struggle; the truth is unlike the movies, the world is hard and unfair. The reality of the situation is that you play the hand your dealt to the best of your abilities; but there are no mulligans, no take-backsies ~ you better really think about what you're doing and where you're going to pick the right lines; all the time being mindful of not running into an onboard trick or already present lethal.

As someone with OCD, previously had depression and has on going self confidence issues that he compensates for by being a condescending know-it-all (disclosure, am dating someone with ADD and dyslexia) you have to accept that there is no normal. But that doesn't meant you start artificially constraining what people are capable of. I've won plenty of
games on a mull to 5.

Am I the only one that sells their playmats that they win? I have no use for them, personally. The only one I use is this one, which came with my Resident Evil expansion. I use it because it's MUCH larger than Ultrapro stuff that you get at large events.

Usually any free swag that I win at large events goes directly onto eBay. Playmats, pins, sleeves, deckboxes, etc. I even managed to sell my day 2 dogtags from GP Orlando and Miami.

I've only ever won blank ones, which suits me just fine because I do ink drawings on them. It'd probably be a lucrative business, really. I'll post a pic at some point.

I used to have a TON of those blank white ones. At one point I had an idea to get one that had velcro between the rubbery bottom side and the vinyl top side so that it was machine washable, because when I used to use the white ones I would regularly just write life totals in machine-wash markers directly onto my playmat, and then just wash it when I did laundry. The rubber part on the bottom would always get ruined after a month or two's worth of doing this, though.

Played some Modern with a buddy of mine for a bit. I built a random RDW deck out of his spare cards*, which was surprisingly pretty good and consistent.

[deck]
Creatures (16)
4 Goblin Guide
4 Grim Lavamancer
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Burn (23)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Searing Blaze
4 Incinerate
3 Shard Volley

Land (21)
4 Ghost Quarter
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn
9 Mountain
[/deck]

* I proxied fetches with Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse. I simply cannot play without fetches outside of Standard anymore.

On a weird note, I was going through some crappy GTC commons/uncommons and I stumbled upon Fortress Cyclops. Once you see that he's possibly sporting a crank of redthirst proportions, you cannot unsee this.

It just isn't made for that type of treatment, I suppose. I always washed it on cold, but after a while it would just start getting flaky on the bottom side and it would start falling apart. Thankfully I had literally 100 of them so it wasn't an issue. (Coolstuff got a whole box of miscut mats, so instead of them getting thrown away I just took 'em.)

I'm driving to Vegas, but I wouldn't subject anybody to the torture of sitting in a car with me for that long. I already feel bad enough for Ali. He doesn't know it yet, but I've got enough eSports podcasts to last me the entire way there.
