I'm leaning towards playing Gruul because I got it together a couple weeks ago and I've picked it up really fast. The deck suits me well and I've been tuning it (still deciding whether i want pillar main or not, and what i want in the board), and have another two weeks to get comfortable with it so I'm going to play it.

Plus i just have this gut feeling that it's the right deck for me to play.
Holy shit Calamity, are you actually me? I'm having the same thoughts on the same topic.

I must be the only human who chooses decks based on their budget. I've been playing mono-color this and that for about a year now. Feels great obliterating people with greedy mana bases, though. Not gonna lie.
A nice Katana blade and some training and you're all set. Shotguns help too, I suppose.
Aye, Katana take copious amounts of upkeep, you know. And I imagine you'll have a hard time finding Choji Oil and Uchiko balls after the Zombies start aknockin'.

And I imagine rifle > shotgun since you'd want to consistently penetrate them zombie skulls. Scatter-shot guns don't seem so prevalent in that situation.

Katana-style titanium sword.

I'd still take a good .22lr with a huge magazine, though.

According to World War Z, one of the best weapons was called the "Lobo." It was a short shovel with an axe-blade at the other end.

Shivan Dragon will probably give that same nostalgic/underwhelming feeling as M13 Serra Angel.

Ditch axe, aka kaiser blade. Can
be found at almost any big box hardware store. It's basically a modern day Lochaber Axe.

I am pretty excited for Celestial Flare. For those of you who didn't see the spoiler:

Celestial Flare
WW
Instant, Common
Target player sacrifices an attacking or blocking creature.

PRIME limited removal, and probably even constructed playable. Craig Wescoe probably shit himself when he saw it.

Also sorry I haven't been around as much, guys. Life got real hectic with my mom's diagnosis, and I've started to hit the gym even harder than before to try and burn off the stress that's involved. Truth be told, I haven't even drafted those boxes of MM I bought yet. I cracked my original two boxes and that was fun (and I broke even-ish.) but I saved the rest to draft with some friends and just haven't had the time.

For those doubting the run at Wal Mart, I bought all they had (which was only 6 boxes.) and it was apparently left there because Wizards of the Coast brings in their own
personal vendors at larger retail stores like Wal Mart and Target. I guess these boxes were just "extras." There aren't a lot of hobby shops in North Carolina, so it's likely that they just had an overflow that they needed to sell SOMEWHERE.

Let me get this straight...

Six boxes...

Of Modern Masters...

That were extras...

Of the most sought after set of all time...

That were left at Walmart because the state of North Carolina doesnt have specialty stores...

When we were told they were only being sold at specialty stores...

And the specialty stores couldnt get enough to fill their pre-orders...

Is there anything in modern masters draft you take over Elspeth(money aside)? Friend posed the question to me and I'm wondering if Elspeth really IS the best P1P1. The only things close in power level seem like Keiga, Oona, Adarker Valkerie, Divinity of Pride, and MAYBE GAAIV.

I've also seen WotC in action and find Alex's tale completely believable.

So there's this rumor that Mutavault is gonna get reprinted in M14.

EDIT: NVM, looks like it's confirmed. Along with three walkers (Jace, Liliana, and Ajani) being their M13 versions.

Wal-Mart sells them for $20... I
saw one and couldn't resist. :D

Regarding Alex buying boxes of MM at Wally World - why not? They sell everything else.

Celestial Flare is about my favorite thing spoiled so far - I think it'll see constructed play.

And Mutavault? Woot!

Mutavault makes sense with Slivers returning, does it not? Not that I'm not jaw-dropped and all wanty over it, but it fits.

Not a fan of Celestial Flare...yet another "UWx must control the world and screw aggro" card, though not quite as annoying as Celestial Purge. But that's to be expected, I suppose.

@ windstrider - Some folks call it a sling blade, mmm hmm--Billy Bob

With regards to MM at WM...The fact that WotC is already a WM vendor is the only way that there is even a remote chance that they got shipped MM, and then only remotely likely as an accident of some sort. WM has no good reason for wanting to carry MM as expensive, easily-pocketed, low-profit, short-supply collectables are shrinkage nightmares and cause all sorts of customer relations headaches and wasted time (the company addressed the particular issue of
collectable cards back when Upper Deck released their first baseball set). But that--and the potential negative impact on WotC if they lied outright to the card shops--aside, I still don't see a breaking article about something that would be a huge scoop for SCG if it were verifiable and published. Nor does google turn up any other instance of any such occurrence, not even a posted pic of a faked shelf tag. I can allow that anything is possible, but the circumstances really don't make a whole lot of sense if you know anything about WM from a management perspective.

Rumors of Thoughtseize in M14 abound...

If that's true, Mutavault, Thoughtseize, and a GOOD Chandra, if it turns out to be good, could get me interested in the set.

A consistent 2/2 beater that dodges sorcery speed removal? I'm also pretty sure we might have a few slivers in red aggro.

A Thoughtseize reprint will be nice so that the price goes down.

Mutavault is basically super-charged Hellion Crucible.

Just FYI, Mythic Spoiler shows Chandra, Flamebringer and Garruk, Caller of Beasts; they are "shadows" with card art and no text at this point, but Garruk's new name inspires some fun speculation. Thoughtseize has been "spoiled" and debunked at least once so far, but the number crunch still doesn't rule it out (fingers crossed).

Am I taking away correctly that it shines particularly hot in a deck with tribal synergies? I admit to not being up on the full history of the card, but I can see that something colorless that can come in and gain every tribal pump on the board can be remarkable. And of course its protection from sorcery-speed creature removal and even CMC-based removal seems good...

Yes, it's very good in tribal. For instance it's a staple card for Legacy Merfolk lists, though that deck can't really get past a few of the more
popular Legacy archetypes right now.

There aren't really any tribal decks in Standard right now (other than Naya Humans). The Sam Black Vampires list would run it, likely, especially with Child of Night coming back in M14.

Goblins may be a thing for a bit, especially if they reprint a lord. Some red decks are already close to Goblin tribal, but just lacking any tribal synergies.

I doubt Naya Humans can afford any colorless lands, but if it could somehow, and if it could afford the activation cost, it would be good there.

Some people like bringing Werewolves decks to FNMs. Seems good there as well, especially since dropping and/or activating it doesn't count as a spell.

Mutavault really shines in Tribal decks, but it's nearly as good in any Aggro.

You need as many cards in your deck to be threats as possible while still having enough mana sources to reliably cast everything. Any card that does both is a winner and Mutavault is second in that catagory only to Mishra's Factory.
