EDH. Fifth turn, five mana on board. First upkeep, Paradox Haze in play from last turn. Cast Jhoira of the Ghitu, opponent responds with Hinder, I foolishly respond with Pact. Jhoira resolves. And then...the next upkeep. x.x

I'm wondering how you cast Jhoira during your upkeep? Sorry if I'm not understanding. I haven't had my morning coffee yet.

I'd like to thank Kaze again for writing that Mono U Tron primer. That deck is very fun, and it even beats Jund! Modern night tonight, so I can finally find out if It'll be right for what I'm up against. I remember only seeing one guy with a pretty good aggro deck (red affinity) and a bunch of Pod a month or 2 ago, so hopefully it'll stay that way.
Also, why do you play 2 Mindslavers in your list, Kaze? I uploaded a carbon copy of your list, but with 2 Halimar Depths instead of 2 Islands (still don't know if this is right. I really hate the games where you can't drom Map t1 and activate t2 because of it) However, I'm finding that I'd really, really rather have a second Platinum Angel than a second Mindslaver. My mind's set on the Angel, but I'd like to hear your reasoning on a second Mindslaver.

I think he cast it in his main phase that turn.

The point being he made himself lose the game.

actually no I have no idea what he meant, scratch that.

Anyway I'm not much of "quality" aesthetics kind of guy, so the 3DS when we already have two regular DS seems kind of superfluous (but doesn't stop Nuwen for asking for one every time we go to a Wal-Mart or Target X_X)

I had no intention of getting a 3DS until I saw the Zelda special edition one - then it became a snap buy.

You're quite welcome. I'm happy you enjoy it!

And it's just personal preference, to be perfectly honest. I lean on Mindslaver more than my other artifacts in that deck since I love winning with the lock between that and Academy Ruins. A second Angel could just as easily go in that slot, I'd just personally rather have a card there that can actually win the game than one that just stalls.

Tread lightly with CIPT lands in that deck, by the way. Blue sources are what makes that deck work. Otherwise you're just sitting around ramping and begging to get nailed with a spell.

Best of luck.

I'm going to
play a similar UW list this weekend, I think. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is a card that I just can't stop playing with. I'm also big on Celestial Colonnade as a secondary win condition.

Well, you can enter other people's friend codes so they appear in

These days I'm playing Fire Emblem Awakening while replaying all of my Ace Attorney titles since the latest is coming out this fall.

I went to FNM hoping to play modern, but it seemed we only had enough people to do a draft. Apparently the store is now doing drafts every Friday along with standard/modern, and you sign up for the tournament you want to be in. Only won 1 game that whole night. I had color/curve problems. Only red cards were legion's initiative, skyknight legionaire, augur spree, and a pair of martial glory. Also got guardian of the gateless, but never saw it in a game. Wasn't too bad though; pulled a JAoT, traded 6 $1 rares for a Remand, and I got the random promo.

Went 4-1 at FNM tonight. I lost to some rogue Selesnya Midrange deck thru some horrible luck. I mean, my deck was built to beat this deck, for one, and for two, I drew like, 9 Mountains back to back in game 2.

I know Mountain is the best card in my deck, but too much of a good thing, much like cocaine, can be a bad thing. Oh well.... This is me bitching about it, lol.

Otherwise, I beat all the usual suspects: Naya Midrange, Naya Blitz, Esper, and Gruul Smash. I won the most hideous playmat ever. I fucking love it. I can't wait to play with it in tomorrow's GPT.

Image

Look at that schnoz. Seriously. And where's the rest of it??? It's nowhere near as big as my other mats! That thing is fugly. Damn thing looks like Latrine from Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

It'll be my new mascot for when I play.

Took Dos Rakis to a 3-2 finish last night. Anticipating a lot of G/W, U/W, and just W in general, I replaced the Cacklers with Knights of Infamy.

Lost to my friend's Gruul deck when he topdecked a Traitorous Blood to steal a Falkenrath from me [when he had a Flinthoof Boar and a Noble on the field for lethal, and I had a Thundermaw for lethal in response]. I beat a budget B/R deck with vampires and, I kid you not, Slumbering Dragon that got out of hand with Mark of the Vampire on it. I then taught some guy that Supreme Verdict doesn't work so well against Falkenraths. I raced a control deck using Spike Jesters and Knights of Infamy to run him down, later topdecking two Thundermaws to seal the round. And then lost to a reanimator deck when he got the Angel of Serenity loop going in both games. Ouch.

All in all, not a bad night. I had fun.

And, now I think my wife is upset with me for some reason.

Wait, did you sacrifice your Falkenrath to itself when he targeted it with Traitorous Blood or not?

I actually won two games in the past against people who didn't do so :?

Anyway, placed 4th (2-1-1) on a MM draft building a Storm deck.
I could have done better, but the deck just proved to be too difficult to play for a newb like me.

He had lethal on the board whichever way I played it, so it didn't really matter. I was at three life while he was at four. If he hadn't topdecked Blood, then I could have blocked his Flinthoof Boar, taken two from a Noble, and then responded next turn with a Hellkite. I wasn't as clear as I should have been.

Otherwise, yes, I would have sac'ced it to itself.

Edit: I added that explanation in brackets in the original post.

went 2-2 at FNM with gruul aggro, which is pretty disappointing but i played the decks' toughest matchups so it's not that bad.

First round played my girlfriend with her naya aggro deck, won die roll and nut drew. Second game she got mana screwed so the games weren't too interesting unfortunately.

Second round played junk rites, first game he played the best grisly salvage ever, it revealed a voice or resurgence, unburial rites, two lands and and angel of serenity. he took the voice, and two turns later flashed back the rites for a turn 4 angel of serenity WTF. Second game i had a good start and had two ash zealots on the board to prevent him from flashing back the rites but he played 3 thragtusks and i never drew pyreheart so he managed to live long enough to hardcast angel of serenity and exiled a reckoner and my two zealots and that was game.

third round i played golgari control. Man that matchup seems hard. it'
s like jund but instead of stabilizing with creatures you can go through with striker and wolf they just have like 25 1 for 1 removal spells plus 4 mutilate. Would have killed him but a nighthawk kept him at one life and he killed me next turn with a desecration demon.

fourth round didnt matter the guy threw games to his friends so they could win so he wasn't trying. it was some sort of bant rites or something. i dunno he kept a shitty hand game one and game two he kept a one lander, i did a BTE BTE flinthoof chain and scooped. he just didn't really care at that point.

so yeah, kinda disappointing FNM, not sure how/if i should prepare for the BG list. I also am definitely bumping up to four pyrehearts in the board for midrange matchups. in the matchups i want him i really, really want him so i need to play four.

Getting paired against your gf round 1, ow, then nutting all over her? Well played Calamity.
