I was just reading what formats are being run in the upcoming World Magic Cup.
Team Unified Standard Constructed - No more than four copies of any Standard-legal card (basic lands excluded) may appear across a team's three Standard decks.
This should be interesting in how to construct the decks given that RTR Standard is rich in 3-color decks and that means only 1 player on the team gets to play a color combination. We'll probably see 2-color decks that won't normally see play.
Also, August means RTR Standard with M14. Meaning most decks played in the WMCQ won't see play outside since most cards will be rotating out.
You realize no cards rotate out until October, right?

Last good red planeswalker we had was Koth, right? I think most of the planeswalkers in other colors have been, for the most part, playable. We're getting screwed over here.
The nature of planeswalkers (essentially modal sorceries that can have big payoffs in a longer game) they've designed thus far make it difficult to make one that fits a red strategy (or what wizards has pigeonholed red into, depending on who you ask).
That being said, the fake one posted a week ago or so would be a step in the right direction for making a red planeswalker. The fact that it only had minus loyalty
costs makes sense both mechanically and flavorwise in red (red values freedom and chaos, why would a red planeswalker stick around one place for too long?) and would let them give her more powerful abilities.
I'm pretty sure koth was amazing for the type of red deck currently run. sure he was 4 mana but he gives you so much value for your mountains (tap out for koth, +1 untap mountain, punch enemy in the dick for lols).tldr MOAR KOTH PLZ.

The highlights of the DE will go like this (as is typical of my streams)
...6. Shoutouts to Australia and redthirst's cock
"I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, my wonderful team mates, my lord and savior: redthirst's cock - through whom all things are possible..."

Remember UR Burn at the Stake Storm? Turns out with Young Pyromancer, the deck is really competitive. Who would have thought.

Zeman, we seem to be moving in similar orbits today...I was reading an article by Michael Martin over on SCG about trying to break Burn at the Stake again given the meta shift away from Reanimator and thus decreased SB play of RIP. His current run at the deck seems a bit too convoluted to be competitive (RUG Burn...love the name, anyway), but his piece did get me reflecting on the deck again. Sounds like you're onto a more viable take on the concept...

What's with people and their aversion to modern? Modern Masters has injected a ton of staples into the market here, but people seem interested in only flipping them for a profit instead of playing with them. I thought MM would boost the modern scene here, but all it has done is akin to giving vitamin c pills to a cancer patient.

Koth wasn't even good enough that he was played as a staple in the mono red during som-inn standard. People were running hero of oxid ridge over him. This tells us something about how wizards feel about red walkers.

Grading is the most fucked up thing a teacher has to do. I have like 300-400 scripts of essays everytime a test or exam rolls around (like every 2 months). It's bad enough to make me wanna quit my job.

I think the problem is that even with the injection of staples, the cost of Modern is still steep. You can trade, but I think for a lot of people it's hard to trade for cards that aren't Standard legal.
Just my two cents.

To start
out in Modern, if you want to run more than 1 color, you'll need to drop at least $200 on 8 lands that were NOT printed in MM. That's what's holding the format back. So many people bought MM because all of the economists told them how much of a good investment packs and drafts would be. They spent so much money on the game already; now they want to make a bit back. This is not me; I've never peeled back the wrapper on a MM pack in my life, and have just yesterday spent $180 on Soul Sisters (you'll probably see a primer before August) and parts of Burn.

considering the best interaction in rdw is 'turn mountain sideways, aquire prize packs' turning said mountains into 4/4 beaters or getting them to ping makes them better no? doubling your mana base for his -2 seems good to (verdict > add 8 mana > refill board seems profitable)

Sometimes, even if you do just run one color you want those lands (Lavamancer and maybe Deathrite Shaman), but there's really no reason to just run one color besides budget since the mana fixing is so good.
I've got a full set of search lands so I'm interested in playing
some Modern, but without those I'm sure every conversation I had with myself regarding building a deck would go something like:
"Well, the mana base alone will cost me about $250+..."
*thinks about other things I could spend $250 on - like hookers and blow*
"...fuck it."

If hookers and blow only cost $250 where you're at, I'm moving there yesterday.

It will have applications in a number of red-based strategies, not just sligh. In burn or counter-burn, it will be generating creatures to clog up the board at the least; in token strategies along with Battledriver, it serves as a combo piece for churning out big damage swings. In a Battalion-based deck, it would help with turning on the trigger. Overall it has potential as a great utility card.

I doubt it. I mean, it's really good, but we're using like 4-8 burn spells max in our current lists so - unless lists swing back to being very burn heavy - I don't think it'll see a lot of play in Standard RDW.
Now a combo or burn deck - maybe.
Anywho, for the month between when m14 is legal and m13 and Inn rotates, Dos Rakis is going to get retarded in here:
[deck]Hypothetical Decklist[/deck]
18 creatures with Haste - 10 with Flying too.
Rawr!

I'm hoping the Aristocrat drops in price as we approach rotation so I can pick up a playset cheap and run that Dos Rakis list for the month.
My venue absolutely HATES RDW, so I enjoy showing up with my red decks just to anger them.

Aristocrat's price has got to drop like a rock pretty soon - it's so good, but it sees no play in any other format besides Standard.
Posted: Tue Jun 18, 2013 5:05 pm
by DroppinSuga
You'd think so, but my shop can't even keep one copy in stock. I'm tempted to just order a playset now, but it's hard to drop that kind of cash on a card that's Standard for a couple more months.

$250 is adequate to start with if you're getting some hookers and blow.
The price of an 8-ball: $150
Going rate to bang a hooker for half-hour: $100
Realizing the hooker does, in fact, have a penis: priceless.
*yells to hooker, " Goddammit, Teia, you fucking ladyboy, you're hogging all the blow! "

You know, you'd think you could subtract the price of your blow that the hooker snorts from the price of the hooker, but you'd be wrong...
I mean, just try to bring that up and you'll find out real quick that not only does that bitch know Krav Maga, but that she can run a 3 minute mile in platforms.

Red, I think there's a big difference in the condition that you leave your hookers in and the condition I leave mine in. My hookers can still walk (somewhat). Your hookers are left with a 4 foot gaping hole between their legs and are lucky if some of their internal organs haven't been liquified by the constant ramming from your mammoth fuckstick. Shit, they're lucky to even be alive.
