I think Rakis is going to have the hardest time with Junk.
I may be wrong though.

Junk Aristocrats or Tokens? Because the former is a joke.

I may have just made a MTGO account.
Any tips for a first-time user?

Couldn't get there game 3 against rites. Lost the dice roll and game 1, took game 2 with two nobles w/ traitorous thragtusk and aristocrat (wouldn't have curved into conscripts for the 12 damage blowout, glad I played tblood today). Game 3 was thragtusk hard cast three times, resto, angel of serenity (which he REVEALED and said "game win" when I passed the board to him, even though he didn't have the 3 white sources to cast it)
Left afterwards to meet up with a Internet friend. We'll be back for the 8 pm standard, then going to paint the strip and drink away the life gain

Played at a modern win-a-box event yesterday.
Why Tarmogoyf is a 100 dollar card:
I have a goyf in play, with a lily, thoughtseize and path in the grave it is 3/4.
I am tapped out with only a marsh flats untapped.
Opponent has a 3/3 and 5/5 vinelasher kudzu in play.
He attacks with the 5/5 and thinks huehuehue (I am at 8 life).
I crack my marsh flats for an untapped blood crypt, going down to 5. Tarmogoyf grows to 4/5. Opponent thinks huehue.
I use the blood crypt to bolt his 3/3 kudzu. Kudzu dies, making tarmogoyf 5/6. Blocks and kills his 5/5 kudzu.
Proceed to win the game with me at 5 and opponent at 18.

so tarmogoyf is a $100 card because someone was playing unplayable vinelasher kudzu's in modern, got it

Your mum is unplayable.
Don't mind him, he's D2R's professional hater.

And he got suspended from MTGS so he's gotta let it out somewhere.
PS: Grow is a decent deck, but I still think it's a strictly worse version of the Zoo landfall deck.

Also I totally am glad I didn't sign up for the main event. I was WAY too hung over this morning to play 8 rounds of Magic. We spent the afternoon on the strip just generally chillin'.

I created a Soul Sisters thread in the Modern Competitive section. Just a few decklists; primer coming later. Check it out if you feel you have anything to add to a discussion of the deck.

scrubbed the fuck out at SCG Philly. Got flooded half my games (on 20 land wtf) and played bullshit no skill decks like naya midrange (twice!) and junk rites. Beat a grixis control list and a weird RUG midrange list though.
Also never got around to seeing you freedom, was preoccupied by the event lol.
Wasn't too bad though, played in a 2HG side event (DGR sealed) with my girl, went 3-1 and lost in the finals due to mana screw to some of the best 2HG players in the world so overall it was a good day.

After I was 2-4 I kept on playing for two more rounds, since this was my first time playing at a level beyond FNM and I felt that this was helping me to learn and improve my skills, then just walked out and caught the next train back because I realized that I wasn't really enjoying myself. I had a few very close matches where, while I was not unlucky, they were extremely lucky. More prep for the event (like learning the oppositions' decks) would have helped me very much, because I can count at least 5 games where I had them dead on the next swing and they seemed to have very little board presence; only to die right after I pass the turn. Bant Hexproof, you can go die in a fiery hell, where your motherfucking Rancors can never come back. There was also one game against Dega 'Crats where I swung to get him down to almost lethal next turn with both of our same creatures out (I took extensive notes, but I don't have them
with me now) and I played a Flinthoof Boar before passing the turn. Turns out that that was exactly enough to let him play his topdecked Blasphemous Act to blow his Boros Reckoner to bits and give Blood Artist enough red liquid to hit me for another 6. I was at 17! Shit like this. I could have spent more time preparing, but the three days before the tournament were spent enjoying my birthday and visiting colleges. I might put a tourney report in the Gruul Sligh thread, but I'm not sure anyone wants to read a loser's report. If at least 1 person would like to read it, I'll write it, so tell me if you have any interest.

Calamity, I was the guy in the bright blue and green Red Hot Chili Peppers T-shirt with 2 Powerade bottles and 2 water bottles in his bag. Maybe you saw me. Maybe you were actually the match next to me!

@freedom — Writing the report will help to give you better insight and understanding into those matches. The decks you described are designed to do exactly what you're reporting.

Yeah, Crats 2 is designed to either grind and stall the board or combo win out of nowhere. Every turn it has Reckoner on the field is another chance to blow things up...

Just noticed something. The ampersand (&) in this font looks like "Et," the Latin word for "and." I wonder if this is where the symbol came from.
Posted: Sun Jun 23, 2013 8:08 pm
by Nuwen
Yep, "et" was slurred into ampersand ligature when cursive styles started to replace blocked fonts in texts. Eventually became a discrete letter.

Hmm...good to have that verified. Feels nice when your assumptions/educated guesses turn out right. Looking at the one on the keyboard, you'd never have guessed the word and the symbol were related in any way besides meaning.

Must be tough to beat the Jund player who brings in Slaughter Games vs an aggro deck.

We went gambling today. We were in a draft pod this morning, but most of us scrubbed out so we hit the strip instead. I did get a foil Clique out of it though.
I couldn't play constructed if I wanted to, I didn't pack any of my Magic stuff other than my playmat. :\

We're thinking about trying to get into EDC tonight. Text me, we can hang. 321-800-8126.
PS: Don't bother calling, I never answer my phone. It's a text-onry setup.

I may not be in Vegas, but I had a firkin good time yesterday regardless at the first KC Real Ale Fest. Pictured are part of the 13 cask ales that we greedily devoured; another 30 or so bottled craft brews were also featured, but with some of these beautiful cask ales I was more than happy to stay with the taps for the most part. My daughter came up to hang for the street party that followed the tasting event and we enjoyed a pie at our most favorite local pizza joint (owned by our friends who organized the ale fest) while I got back to a driving-legal state of mind!
BTW for the uninitiated who might have missed the point of my poor pun, "firkin" is an English cask beer measure of 40.9148269 liters, which is 9 imperial gallons (thus the derivation), or 10.80855 US gallons.

Right now I'm up almost $800. I think a lot of these people are casuals that are here for the GP, but then again I already knew how to read Magic players' faces.
I'll probably lose it once they all leave tomorrow morning.
