Apparently there used to be Legacy tournaments here every Saturday but they stopped because more than half of the meta was Burn. I was told this by the LGS owner and several regulars who whined about the lack of skill involved in suspending a rift bolt.

Just bring a standard deck, since they beat modern decks anyway:

U/R Storm is also a really powerful deck to run on a budget if you can afford the fetchlands.

I hear Show and Tell is really awesome on a budget if you can afford Show and Tell.

That was a bit more snide than I was wanting it to sound, but seriously, U/R storm runs like 7-10 Fetches on average.

You need to compare it to every other deck that runs fetchlands. Every other card other than the lands is a common/uncommon or a bulk rare. It is easily the cheapest competitive deck. It only runs 6 fetches as well, not 7-10. A competitive burn deck would run 8 fetches, and grim lavamancer and goblin guides are more expensive than all the cards in storm.

Some of us played during Zendikar and have most of the fetchlands.

Also, the most expensive cards in show and tell are volcanic island and force of will. :O

Aye, I kinda figured that estimate was a bit high. Then I looked back and remembered Shivan Reef isn't a fetchland. >.>

I was a little low on my being-wrong-about-everything quota today anyway.

Actually, Boros Landfall is a more budget-friendly deck for Modern. You can run Marsh Flats instead of Tarns.

Won TNM. Highlight of the night was actually building the manabase of a friend who drafted today. He was spread across 4 colors, had only 3 gates, and had a gatecreeper vine while not being base green. His curve?

Boros elite>Pursuit of flight>beetleform mage>bloodfray giant OR

Rackdos Cackler>boros mastiff>unflinching courage>Savage born hydra.

He finished second in the draft at 2-0-1 and would have gotten first if he hadn't misplayed in the match he drew and/or had one more turn. I'm proud of my mana base building skills in limited.

I agree with Boros Landfall. Very fun deck, though it does require 8 or more fetches, Grim Lavamancer, Goblin Guide, and Flagstones of Trokair, which can be fairly expensive.

I seriously love you guys...

But no whipped cream--chocolate is miles more decadent.

Duress has supposedly been spoiled...it would not rule out Thoughtseize, but ya know...my hope is that MaRo's musings on tumblr are real and that there are plans to pump up black. Thoughtseize, a good scalable sweeper, good scalable lifedrain...I could like such things.

As a guy with 4 copies of thoughtseize, I have mixed feelings about a reprint.

Not reprinting would allow it to retain its 65 dollar value.

Reprinting it would allow me to get a second playset for my legacy deck instead of sharing it between my modern and legacy deck.

I'm for it, Zendikar fetches would be the only thing keeping people out of Modern if they reprinted Thougthseize as well as Mutavault. Modern Masters prices are falling quick.

And even then, there are decks that don't need fetches. Merfolk has access to 16 UW duals in Modern and has no relevant Landfall effects, all the while being a pretty good deck. Those duals are Wanderwine Hub, Hallowed Fountain, Seachrome Coast and Glacial Fortress. That makes up a majority of the mana needed to play the deck, and the only one of those lands that costs more than $10 are the fountains. And its pretty likely that the other 4 lands slots in the deck are Mutavaults.

Also, saw this on MTGS:
A source has given me 3 more reprints:
Darksteel Forge!

Millstone!
Image
Duress!

Seems like bullshit to me. I highly doubt Wizards is giving MTGS spoilers, and Darksteel Forge doesn't fit any set in the block at all. There would be no reason to reprint it other than a pricetag, but if that were the case, reprinting Duress instead of Thoughtseize is literally retarded.

I do hope there's at least some validity to Millstone, though. That's a classic. Also, if they're not
printing Thoughtseize, they better at least choose Despise over Duress because I have those sweet-ass FNM promos from Scars block and I want to use them.

I lulzed reading about the cake. My lady just left after making bacon, eggs and coffee. She's dynamite in bed and cooks like a pro. Get on my level?

And now for something completely different: anyone here do any airbrushing? Specifically small models/miniatures.
