Not a fan. I'm just imaginning my 7 being stonewright, 2x mountain, Mutavault, hellrider, zealous conscripts, pillar and being overall disgrunteled. Just looks like a bad midrange deck.
Having said that, lots of the concepts look very good. I'm very exicted about the prospect of playing 4 stonewrights in a chandra deck and having mutavault means playing 25ish lands goes from borderline acceptable to actively good.
I think cutting reckoners, a land, and a conscripts for something to lower your curve and add better burn would make this something more akin to my tastes. Probably noble/cackler and maybe something dorky like goblin shortcutter or pyreheart wolf. Wolf into hellrider is still the red mages wet dream.

yeah I think you might as well have noble at least while we can for more rider triggers

[deck]
Creatures (24)
4 Stonewright
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Hellrider
4 Zealous Conscripts
Spells (11)
1 Devil's Play
3 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
3 Chandra, Pyromancer
Lands (25)
22 Mountain
3 Mutavault
[/deck]
Really like the look of this list, off the top of my head I'd try hound of griselbrand over the riders
Hellrider will do more damage over time
than Hound here, and since you're running 27 creatures (including Mutavault) there's no reason not to play Hellrider. Hounds would be a sideboard option to come in for Conscripts vs aggro.
Good point, i didn't consider mutavault in the creature count

Preorder price for new Chandra is 20 bucks. you guys think she's worth preordering at that price? I think she could be really good, but might not be until Theros.

If you're not going to play her now, don't get her. I'd wait until Theros if you're looking at it from an investment perspective. I expect her to settle down to at or just below what Domri Rade is currently at.

Nah, I'd give it a week or two. The Cedric Phillips of the world will talk the card down into oblivion, and you can get them then for (likely) $10~.

That's a good point. At this point I'm probably just going to play Modern until Theros. I can't see M14 changing standard all that much (at least, what we've seen so far).

$20 for Chandra is ridiculous. Most MTG players I've seen talk about her think she's going to be useless, so wait and let the price drop first.

You'll probably be opening packs of m14 you win at fnm etc too, so you might crack her.

I wonder is something like this would be playable:
[deck]Lands (20)
4 Mutavault
16 Mountains
Creatures (20)
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Ash Zealot
Spells (20)
4 Shock
3 Flames of the Firebrand
3 Blasphemous Act
4 Searing Spear
2 Burning Earth
4 Pillar of Flame[/deck]

New Chandra is nifty. Not sure what I was expecting, really, but it's not as underwhelming as I expected. Flavor fits, all abilities seem viable. It's alright.
Happy birthday to RedNihilist!
So, today kinda sucked. Apparently I'm in line to possibly get laid off, since I haven't been making quota for a while. Though really nobody has since sales slow down considerably during the warmer season, I'm most likely due to being one of the few people who haven't been there in years. Shortly after, I spilled a customer's drink order upon myself.
After I got home, the bitchy old lady across the street came over bashing my door down telling me how pathetic of a homeowner I was since my grass is longer than everyone else's. It took all of my willpower not to punch her in her fucking uterus.

I've been thinking of going old school and going aggro game one and game two having a transformational boarding into a grindy/controllish deck with chandra, her phoenix, more burn, etc.

The only real good use of Chandra is to +1 and make something not able to block.

Something like that is what I have in mind as well Johnny, though Reckoner probably isn't playable in a deck with Mutavault (you need 21 res sources to cast it reliably).

I didn't think about that. I was thinking young pyromancer making tokens to cheapen blaspemous act then dome them would be cute. I'd really like an earthquake reprint. Burning Earth is still my favourite card in the set so far.

I will almost certainly be playing a mono color deck with Burning Earth in the format, the card is a game ender for 3 color control and greedy midrange manabases.
Maybe a nice UW aggro list, or Wescoe's hatebear list. The mana isn't so greedy that you even need to play nonbasics.

So I'm looking at playing this deck for block constructed:
[deck]lands (21)
10 Mountain
3 Plains
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple Garden
Creatures (28)
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Firefist Striker
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Gore-House Chainwalker
4 Legion Loyalist
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Viashino Firstblade
Other spells (11)
4 Boros Charm
3 Legion's Initiative
4 Mizzium Mortars
Sideboard
2 Act of Treason
2 Arrest
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Electrickery
4 Frontline Medic
1 Legion's Initiative[/deck]
Any suggestions?

I feel like you could SB boros charms for those MU for more kill yourface off dynacharges Mb

I honestly have no experience with block. I'm thinking I may take the Legion's Initiative out just because I don't have them and have to buy them. I would replace it with 4 Dynacharge. Not sure if I should mainboard the Reckoner or not. I know the Firstblade will be decent, but the Reckoner is such a good board presence.

Anyone else noticed the crazy interaction between
Kalonian Hydra and
Strionic Resonator?
T1
Stomping Ground -->
Arbor Elf
T2
Rootbound Crag -->
Strionic Resonator
T3 land -->
Ogre Battledriver
T4 land -->
Kalonian Hydra
Battledriver gives the Hydra +4 and haste; The hydra comes in with 4 counters, but that's not triggered according to the card wording. However, the doubling effect when it attacks is a triggered ability, so it swings, goes up to 16 counters thanks to the resonator, +4 from Battledriver=20 trample damage. Battledriver swings for 3...against a slow-starting deck that's lights out.
Total Christmasland stuff, but damn there are going to be some fun
interactions to abuse among the the cards being spoiled.
EDIT: NEVERMIND...sorta. I neglected to account for having to pay the activation cost for the Resonator. The interaction is still there, but it can't go off on the turn the hydra is cast if you make curve. It would go on the next turn, but without any help he's already swinging for 16 that turn and 32 is overkill.

Do a search for PSully's Boros Blitz block deck. It's pretty much where you want to be.

Path to Bravery + Hellrider = Life drain without black?
I love the witch-themed trio for the flavor, and the Newt is Fume Spitter with a narrow upside.
Door of Destinies is back to really pound home the fact that Slivers is a tribal deck...could be fun in Zombies while they're here.
Don't put your deck in the [Fires of Salvation]

I have no experience with R2R block either, but the general rule of thumb is that if it's good in standard it's also pretty good in block. (Card-wise, not archetype-wise.)

Folks have been mentioning for a while now that it's best to take a deck you know to a tournament instead of taking something new. Here's an interesting article on SCG that drives home the point:
http://www.starcitygames.com/article/26 ... vents.html
On this topic, I'm headed to the SCG Open in Worcester this weekend. I totally misjudged the meta call for last weekend's PTQ. I thought there would be a lot of aggro and jund so brought Golgari Control, but there was a lot of control in the room and I didn't do well. I'm wondering what to bring this weekend. Here are the decklists I'm familiar enough with to still abide by the "bring something you know" motto:
Gruul Aggro
Dos Rakis
Golgari Control
Naya Blitz
Suggestions?

Gruul Aggro would be my pick. Do you run Rancor in your Gruul?

Kinda partial to Dos Rakis since it can put together a very fast early game with enough resiliency to power through the mid to late game. The sideboard can go transformational or go big depending on what you want to do. With Reanimator lurking around, you also get access to graveyard hate with Rakdos Charm.

No, haven't for a little while. No Ash Zealot main either, though Gruul is very well known now so I may make a few changes. Firefist Striker isn't an unknown quantity any longer, for instance.
