Geez, I just watched the finals of GPKC. People on Reddit are shitting on the guy because he "prematurely conceded," but let's be honest...he was playing Living End and it was turn 4 and he had 2 mana and no Cascade card in hand. That looked pretty unwinnable with or without the Faerie Macabre.
Did he concede on the deciding round? If not, then conceding is totally acceptable. Otherwise, there are ways to lose gracefully.

M14 looks pretty good for red...more than an average number of playables for sure.

My friend is building BG control and wants me to run it at FNM next week while he runs Bant hexproof because he hasn't been able to run the hexproof deck yet. As much as I love mono red I may push it to the wayside to try this new deck out. It'll be the first time I've cast Thragtusk in 10 months so it will be cool casting overpowered cards again.
If you end up running it, post your list and results in the Primer on the Competitive section's main page (scroll down to see it). I'm the only one in there, other than Kaze throwing me a bone, so would love to see more activity in there.

Hope everybody had a fun 4th. I got off work early on Wednesday and my wife and I headed up to her parents' house in Maine. Thursday and Friday were beach days.
Then I made it down to the SCG Open in Worcester and scrubbed out. My friend went 1-3 drop with a slightly worse R/g Aggro deck that he brewed and refuses to adapt to the more powerful list. After I went 2-3 with the normal R/g list I dropped also, because he was my ride and he was tilting pretty horribly.

After I got home I sleeved up Jund. Going to test it out and see if I can play with the big kids. So far it seems to play similarly to my pet B/G Control deck but it's just much more consistent and powerful. I sleeved Reid Duke's GP Miami list just to get a feel for it (subbing 1x Garruk, Primal Hunter for 1x Garruk Relentless since I only own 1 Primal Hunter), and may make slight adjustments as I go.

I know I'm not a "good" Magic player. Right now I'd probably put myself at below average. But I keep heading to these tournaments, and one of my local FNMs is pretty competitive, and you guys rock, so I keep learning.

Looks like I'm taking a break for the M13-M14 transition period cause I can't make a deck without spending too much.
Yes you can.

[deck]Burn at the Stake[/deck]

Assuming you own most of the commons and uncommons, the only things worth more than $2.00 are the shocks while you probably are also likely to already own.

nAlso this deck rules because it is the definition of "going deep."

the most expensive thing for Red right now is just Chandra, right? And even she isn't better than hellrider yet to need picking up.

Come on Christen, red mages have to revel in the chaos that is an 8-set standard

Here's to hoping Theros gives us good burn. Lightning Bolt+Shock standard would be nice.
Yeah I don't see why they couldn't give it haste. I guess 3/3 with haste was too strong and a 3/2 would die to snapcaster mage (who's rotating so moot), but it having the same keyword as the WHTIE hate card....which hates on red... it just feels pretty awkward and poorly done.

I'm going to play this until rotation, giving me something to troll the kids at my LGS with while I sell off my standard stuff.

I'm saying if it had haste instead of first strike as its key word, it'd die to snapcaster mage and that wouldn't be very "hate" like? That's the reason ash zealot has first strike too.

Hopefully the M14 reprints of Trading Post and Darksteel Forge are hinting toward some awesome artifacts in Theros.

Sure.

Also, mirrored hate cards are nothing new. See Black Knight vs White Knight and Knight of Glory vs Knight of Infamy. Wizards typically does this with enemy colors.

Wow, reading some of this CI drama is funny. They're not even trying to hide it anymore, they're basically admitting that they're banning any DTR member just to do it. Sene especially, which doesn't shock me considering how much of a buttmad keyboard warrior he's always been.

MTGS has become one of those sites I go to out of habit every now and then simply to sift through the ruins of our once great civilization.

The fact that the barbarians are now sodomizing each other in those haunted ruins is repulsive, but nothing to devote any real amount of attention to.

I still go there to check out their deck building forums. I obviously don't post because I'll be banned, but I do read. I do like to argue that Stonewright is useful in any deck though.

Am I the only one excited about M14? Seriously! Phoenix reprint (I still have my foil set, I just have to rescue them from a Modern deck), Mutavault (lovingly known as "Big Mudes"), Burning Earth (I heard of trimming the hedges, but you done scorched da Erff!), Young Pyromancer (ain't got nothing for this one, sorry), new Chandra (still rockin' dem thunder thighs!), Shock (don't laugh, but now I can use my cool, old-art ones!), Mindsparker (Sparky?), and a slew of EDH goodies like Ring of 3 Wishes and Dark Prophecy.

Way better than DZM.
