How are the prices of RDW cards looking from this set atm?
Cheap.

4 Satyr - $4
4 Cackler - $1-2
4 BTE - $2
4 GHC - $1
4 Striker - $1
4 Phoenix - $4
4 Fanatic - $2

4 Smegma Jet - $2-4
4 Strike - $1
2 Hammer - $2

22 Mountain

Gets significantly more expensive if you want Chandra and Mutavault - but that's perfectly playable for, what, like $20? Even less if you only need the Theros stuff.

Supa nath'd. ^ That is an excellent start, and then you can win your way into whatever other incarnation you want to play.

I know I said fuck Standard but I have all Fridays off and no Saturdays so D:
All rough estimates, but: Depends on which build. Chandra-less AiR with Fanatic at the top end shouldn't cost more than like 70ish, Firedrinkers being your main expense (5ish? I haven't checked). That's without Reckoners too, obvs, but I haven't paid any attention to the deck so I'm not sure what the current list is. R/B control is fairly cheap, you have the Blood Crypts and DDs as your only expensive cards; Kuroda Boros isn't too bad either, just depends on what you play. It may be nearer the
$200 range. And then there is always the next incarnation of KDW, presumably feat. Chandra and Stormbreath.

It is a good time to play mountains.

@Kaze Mono red Sligh probably clocks in as the lowest at $187 if you have nothing and need to buy 3x Chandra, Pyromaster and 4x Mutavault which is $120 of the price tag.

edit: got ninja'd :P But the Chandra mutavault less deck above is still solid for grinding into the more expensive versions!

Also, bears are surprisingly good in sealed. This format was a LOT faster then I thought it was. Post your pool and I'll see if it was actually terrible or if you just built it wrong.
Yes, that was my conclusion as well. The format is a lot faster than many (myself included) expected it to be.

I'm going to have to get some practice in on MODO if I want any shot at the PTQ. I do respect Sealed (and limited in general) as a skill-intensive format. A lot of the board states can get complicated very quickly and that makes combat math difficult.

I'm going to try to post what I remember from my pool off the top of my head.

I played in Three prereleases this weekend, went white one and red twice. Only lost matches with the white pool, which serves me right. So far, the format seems pretty sweet. FWIW, I agree that it would be hard to have a really bad pool, the commons and uncommons seem to have a relatively even power level, and even most of the strong rares are beatable, ember swallower was one of the best cards in both of my red decks. The format is pretty much entirely creature combat, which any red mage should be comfortable with. Playing with swallower in both decks and hammer in one made me very excited for FNM this week, hammer was simply insane in limited, and I'm eager to see if that holds true for constructed as well.

I wouldn;t call that pool terrible, it seems fine, if not exciting. I'd probably build R/G beats, but I'd need to lay it out to be sure. just smashing big, dumb, creatures into your opponent seems to be good enough most of the time in this format...

Yeah it's not just OMGawful, but it's definitely not exciting at all. I just took exception to the comment that everyone's pool for Theros was just so good because mine is just kinda "meh." I'd call it average at best.

It could just be me valuing removal so highly and the format lacks a lot of that. I've been known to draft very removal-heavy decks and I have to get out of the habit of brining my draft mindedness into sealed.

How'd you get $67 for the rest of the deck? It's all commons, uncommons, and dollar rares unless prices went up significantly in the last week.

+EDIT+ Unless you're including the price of a SB?

If we're using the 3cc slot for Hammers why wouldn't we fill the 4cc slot with dumb fatties - we've got (M)Ember Swallower or how about Bloodfray Giant :fixed:

1. You won't always have a Hammer and Limited-only playable fatties do not a competitive deck make.
2. Even if you do have Hammer, it's rarely the correct turn 3 play.
3. If you are going to play a 4 drop that synergizes well with Hammer, I think Fanatic of Mogis is the one you're looking for.

It's possible Khaos has redeemed himself and can leave (or be thrown out) of the Shame Hole.

At this point, he probably looks like Gollum, though.

Allright gents, I would have had this up 3hrs earlier but as the codemonkey I thought the apparently sitewide decktag JS bug was something in my own script so I spent too much time editting my posts to try and find the damn thing!

But here ya go. An updated Gauntlet thread that contains a link to download all the decks listed in the post for testing in Cockatrice.

Some are without SBs, so if you have ideas head over to the thread and discuss so I can update the gauntlet and the files.

Oh, my mate and I got 2nd out of 20 teams at a 2HG prerelease. No really notable pulls, but we were able to trade for the stuff he needs so that I can get Blood Crypts and DDs from him. 'Twas a good time. I played G/B bigstuff and he had a Boros Blitz deck, so we were essentially playing one deck with a sick curve. Despite our mediocre pool, it worked out.

Oh yea, and scry lands are nuts. I was playing 2x Temple of Deceit and 1x Temple of Abandon in place of 2 Swamps / 1 Forest.

@Val: I'd probably play RB if I was in the mood for flat out winning with your pool. There's a solid curve, and some removal, a decent amount of combat tricks, and lots of pseudo evasion. Double titan strength gives your deck lots of reach considering you have a couple trample and intimidate guys and those along with some of the enchantments and all of the bestow creatures make your heroic one-drops playable and can put a lot of pressure on your opponents.

That's basically the deck I played, +more solid creatures, -3 lightning strike.

The deck I would play that's less good but would be much more enjoyable for me(considering I've played enough rakdos for the weekend) would be some sort of Jund deck. Pharika's mender is a card I really want to play with and the nature of the green cards would lend the jund deck to outvaluing your opponents. The mender just synergizes with so many cards(murder king, erebous emissary,
commune with nature, ordeal of purphuros) that the deck seems sweet.

And there was actually a lot of removal in your pool, conditional and otherwise. White had 6 removal spells along with enchantment removal, black had 3 plus 2 creatures with deathtouch/die triggers, red had tricks, boulderfalls(not sure if that cards good or unplayable) and a good sideboard card in spark jolt, and green had 2 very good combat tricks and all the enchantment removal which is maindeckable.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

You know whats fun? Smashing faces on Cockatrice with the jankiest Theros combo/synergy.

T1 Overgrown tomb
T2 land Lotleth Troll
T3 Removal
T4 Whip of Erebos
T5 Removal......wait for it.......
T6 Lotleth Activation pitching Worldspine Wurm whip it with trigger on stack. Swing with a 15/15 trample lifelinker then doomblade it EOT with whip trigger on stack for 3 5/5 Trample Lifelinkers.
T7 ragequit.

You can do it turn 5 if need be. I mean a 30 point life swing always seems good....and then just finish them off with a LOLtroll.

That comes to 85 so factor in the five extra lands in the booster and that should be correct. If I'm missing one or two they weren't worth mentioning.
This is a tough pool, but I think you could make it work. If I were playing this, I would probably go G/W. Your pool is lacking bombs, not removal. White has your best removal, 2 Last Breath, 2 Divine Verdict, and 2 Vanquish the Foul. Green has a decent amount of enchantments and
synergy with Setessan Griffin, which can end a game by itself if you can afford the +2/+2.

Your win cons for this sort of strategy is to build a large green board presence and make a giant Reverent Hunter. The other is whacking an opponent with Setessan Griffin for 5 a turn. Another is to make your own monster with cheap bestow in Hopeful Eidolon and Leafcrown Dryad with some enchantment back up from Feral Invocation. Finally, if all that fails, you've got a low curve on your creatures. You can just weenie rush them and use your 6 removal spells to clear their big guys.

I'd probably run something like this:

[deck]
Creatures (14)
Favored Hoplite x1
Hopeful Eidolon x1
Leonin Snarecaster x1
[card]Setessan Battle
Priest[/card] x1
Leafcrown Dryad x1
Lagonna-Band Elder x2
Agent of Horizons x2
Satyr Piper x1
Nessian Courser x1
Reverent Hunter x1
[card]Nylea's Disciple[/card] x1
Setessan Griffin x1

Spells (9)
[card]Warriors' Lesson[/card] x1
Last Breath x2
Feral Invocation x2
Divine Verdict x2
Vanquish the Foul x2

Land (17)
Plainsx9
Forestx8
[/deck]

Sadly, you can't whip at instant speed. Even if you could, doom blading it would not stop it from getting exiled,
preventing you from getting tokens.

Pharika's mender is a card I really
want to play with and the nature of the green cards would lend the jund deck to outvaluing your opponents. The mender just synergizes with so many cards(murder king, erebous emissary, commune with nature, ordeal of purphuros) that the deck seems sweet.

I ended up playing RB in the tournament. It just didn't pan out for me.

I'm not fond of three colors in sealed as I HATE variance but it might have been the best choice.
