Where are you guys going for states tomorrow? The one I know about is Oct 12-13. I've heard LK and Val mention them tomorrow.
Here's the scoop, Brother Ham...I asked my nephew for the history being as we have states both today and next Saturday.

Originally, States was an event managed by WotC; however, they decided that it didn't fit in their organized play structure and decided to drop it. Glenn Goddard, who is one of the most incredible cornerstones of Magic of whom you have likely never heard mention (if you want to see an example of his incredible efforts on the part of the game, check out the OUTRAGEOUS plans for GP Albuquerque in November), went to Wizards and asked if he
could keep states going independently. After a bunch of writs and provisos, the mother ship gave Glenn their blessing and he took on nationwide organization of States through the various regional TO's. Then a few years back, TCGPlayer decided to develop a States program to be their company analog to SCG Opens. Thus, we now have two separate MtG States programs under two different organizational structures but oftentimes utilizing the same TO's on the regional/local level. Some TO's choose to run only one program, some both. For players, it's win/win to have two different programs that each provide play and prize access for deck innovators at the start of block.

Everything you never knew you wanted to know about MtG States... ;-)

Credit where it's due...my nephew is simply an amazing part of the Magic community. It's been a key part of his life forever, and he's one of those people that everybody loves because he's just straight-up awesome. I have yet to run into the piece of Magic's background that he doesn't know authoritatively...and his circle of friends is awe-inspiring. Glenn is a perfect example; last year when the big fantasy art conference (Spectrum) was here, my nephew asked me if I could run his friend who was staying with him up to the conference that Saturday. Spending breakfast getting to know Glenn was like a peek into the core of the game, and he made my son feel like the most important player to ever pick up a deck.

I'm blessed with really cool people who make the game "more than a game" for me.

Just beat a UW control deck with maindeck frostburn weird, last breath and elixir of immortality. So, Chandra is a card.

Cedric dropping those knowledge bombs again.

I traded a pair of temple gardens for two, traded a promo scooze for one plus a dreadbore, and traded a JAoT for the fourth. So I spent $10, the price of the DotP game for steam.

I feel sad for Hellhole Flailer. With Fanatic around, no one is going to run him.

@Valdarith: A weird cannot do a thing against Boros Reckoner, if there is a downfall for this card.

I'm telling that to you guys for ages.
He can be 4-power striker against Control without overextending.
He can be wall against Aggro.
He can trade with Loxodon Smiter actually. And Reckoner, but this obviously hurts.

How would you trade with a Reckoner? Unless he tapped out, there is no way for you to benefit out of any form of trade.

I think it was like:
Hitler: "Red decks are easy ... "
Sullivan: But Red decks offer lots of depth and GW generally is just big creatures with a bit of tricks.
Hitler: Sure GW is simple...
I think he aknowledges the fact when someone considers him to be a retard.

You know what makes me feel weird about him? He has no single wrinkle on his face. This guy's head was never ever touched with the slightest thought.
He's perfectly dumb.

Doesn't work with mill at all.
But that'd be really sweet with Purge the Profane you know.
Or actual MTG cards like Rakdos' Return.
Hell, I'd probably play this in Standard.

Shrieking Affliction + Mind Rot + This + Rakdos' Return + some other sweet discard cards.

He seems good and is a good card, but I found him really clunky.

I played with him a lot today and with the Devotion deck, I just wanted to tap out every turn or use all my mana. Activating his ability was tough to find a good spot. This was against creature decks which was all I played

Anyone else watching SCG replays or catch it earlier?

Domri Naya...

T1 Stomping Ground go
T2 land double Elvish Mystic
T3 land Stormbreath hit for 4
BW dude goes to 14 on Read the Bones...still nothing on the board
T4 land Stormbreath swing for 9
scoop... Dayum!

AHA! Game 3--BW deck T2 Blind Obedience

and...Blind Obedience FTW. BW guy whiffs against Domri Naya x2 with Sin Collectors then proceeds to beat the guy down with 2/1's and tons of removal + Extort triggers. Through Assemble, 2 dragons, a scooze and more, BW wins with 2/1's and triggers.
