I'm up for 'trice tourney's.

Also Tube:

A) Man up as the default cause life's a bitch
B) That doesn't mean don't take advantage of every edge you can get...cause life's a bitch.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Thank you. I'm going to show this to my LGS and see if I can get them to run something similar.
Dude, do it, we've had SO MUCH fun with it.

We bought a bunch of lanyards with name tags and had people write "villager league" on them and wear them around the store so that you could identify other people who are playing in the league. It has been a resounding success. That way people weren't just awkwardly durdling around asking random people if they were signed up for the league. They could see it visually. And if you didn't feel like playing villager you could just
take it off.

The lanyards only cost like $5.
Posted it to their FB. Hoping it can garner enough interest so they'll run it. They run that league for each new set, but I don't think hardly anyone plays in it because, well, it sucks.

I didn't actually hold things like my dad's position as a get out of jail free card, I'm not that dumb. Its just something they have to think about as well. I already talked my way out of it anyways, so I'm fine. My dad will probably kick the shit out me later. (figuratively of course) but otherwise im fine.

Exclusive real life tapes from TH's detention hall:

Principal: You're not fooling anyone, Hunter. The next screw that falls out will be you.

Tube Hunter: Eat my shorts.

Principal: What was that?

Tube Hunter: Eat... My... Shorts.

Principal: You just bought yourself another Saturday.

Tube Hunter: Ooh, I'm crushed.

Principal: You just bought one more.

Tube Hunter: Well I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm going to have to check my calendar.

Principal: Good, cause it's going to be filled. We'll keep going. You want another one? Just say the word say it. Instead of going to prison you'll come here. Are you through?

Tube Hunter: No.

Principal: I'm doing society a favor.

Tube Hunter: So?

Principal: That's another one right now! I've got you for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step. You want another
one?

Tube Hunter: Yes.

Principal: You got it! You got another one right there! That's another one pal!

Claire Standish: Cut it out!

Principal: You through?

Tube Hunter: Not even close bud!

Principal: Good! You got one more right there!

Tube Hunter: You really think I give a shit?

Principal: Another! You through?

Tube Hunter: How many is that?

Brian Johnson: That's seven including when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet.

Principal: Now it's eight. You stay out of this.

Brian Johnson: Excuse me sir, it's seven.

I'd be down for a 'trice tournament though I haven't even played on the client before.

Also would be down for Skype on nights where I happen to be free.

The Pokemon Competitive scene is... pretty underwhelming.

When the game first came out, winning a tournament every week was my summer job, but I quit soon after school started back. I stayed the top DCI-ranked player in SC until WotC sold the rights to the game despite not playing again in that 5-ish year period.

About 4 years ago I started again 2 weeks before Pokemon SE Regionals, put a deck together, and got 3rd out of like 250. Then I almost got permanently banned from Competitive Pokemon play when I started swearing in tongues at the Judge when he informed me that 3rd place was a box and 2nd Place was a box and $1000.

I quit playing again soon after.

the problem with the build raspy is that your engines will just get answered immediately, and they're too synergistic to be obscenely powerful on their own.

we've been having success with pyro rakis which runs 2 tymaret, but only a few 4 drops and no dragons.

He's much better when you can get them low enough with 1 and 2-drops (spike jester says hi) that soak up removal. then you can play YP$ on 3 or 4 and actually expect him to stick for a few tokens.

Then tymaret really shines as just the last bit of reach (sort of like a Mogis Maruader that doesn't get blanked by black creatures), after you've gotten them low with phoenix and 1-drops n shit, then you just sac all your board that's stalled out and some elementals over a turn or two and its gg.

The
curve just looks a bit too clunky for my tastes. I think curve out decks with synergies are much better than midrange ones, because your esper MU is gonna be very hard, and the power of your synergies isn't even better than the Artifact R/B midrange with keyrunes, trading posts, Rakdos' return, Demons n Dragons is.
Yeah, you're right. I knew it when I built it too, but I just wanted to jam everything in there. I wanted 16+ spells, most of which could go to the dome, 24 land, 2-3 Chandra, and creatures. If 3 Chandra and only 16 spells, that means only 17 creatures (though I put more spells and fewer creatures). I knew YP and Phoenix took half the slots, with 2x Tymaret bringing it to 10 creatures, so I decided that the other 6 should go to something more impactful than 1-drops and chose 3x Exava and 3x Dragon.

There's a reason the Walter White list curves 8-8-4. I should probably emulate that as much as I can.

4 Cackler
4 Satyr
4 YP$
2 Tymaret
4 Phoenix
2 Exava

May
be better. I can drop a land since no Dragon, and cut the spell count to 17. Ash Zealot and/or Spike Jester are cards that want to be in here but I don't want my creature count very far above 20, if at all above it.

[deck]
Creatures - 20
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Young Pyromancer
2 Tymaret, the Murder King
4 Chandra's Phoenix
2 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch

Instants - 12
4 Shock
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike

Sorceries - 4
4 Dreadbore

Planeswalkers - 2
2 Chandra, Pyromaster

Artifacts - 1
1 Hammer of Purphoros

Land - 23
4 Blood Crypt
4 Rakdos Guildgate
2 Temple of Silence
2 Mutavault
11 Mountain

Sideboard - 15
2 Act of Treason
2 Flames of the Firebrand (or Mortars)
2 Ultimate Price
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Peak Eruption
3 Skullcrack
[/deck]

I've honestly never understood the hatred for France and all things French in the US. The public school system in the town I grew up in offered French and Spanish "immersion" classes. My parents chose French for me. So I was in French class since kindergarten. In kindergarten we were allowed to speak English, but we learned basic French vocabulary. Starting in 1st grade we weren't allowed to speak English at school. I learned the normal math, science, history, etc. curriculum everybody else did but it was all in French. Then we had a dedicated French class where we learned French history, geography, etc.

It's been more than 10 years since I graduated college and I haven't had any use for French since then, so I'd no longer consider
myself fluent. But I could probably pick it back up fairly quickly.

I've been to France and Paris a couple of times. Nobody has ever been rude to me. The first time I went was a school trip in High School, at the height of my fluency. I started chatting with one of the guards in Versailles and she asked me where in France I was from because she couldn't quite place the accent (just like USA, different French regions have different accents, even though the country as a whole is roughly the size of Texas).

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to Paris for our first anniversary. I had lost a lot of the language skills but could still understand almost everything. I tried to speak with just about everybody, and everybody was super polite. Some people helped and urged me to continue, some people responded in English (politely), but nobody was rude.

I think the "rude" thing comes from Americans who are themselves rude first. We can be a very boisterous lot, and I'm sure that
doesn't come across very well when we visit other cultures.
American's abroad are the literal worst yeah, although bring asked to translate "Italian into American" was fucking hilarious.

It certainly seems like the game caters HEAVILY to strong mechanical players. The
cantrips in Pokemon are fucking insane. I mean, there's a trainer card in this starter deck that actually says "reveal the top 7 cards of your library, choose all Pokemon and put them into your hand, shuffle the rest back into your library." How is that not nuts?

You don't even need to be a strong mechanical player for that to be good. But I get the feeling like being a good deckbuilder plays into it heavily.

I feel really embaressed right now. What occured was a meaningless aregument that escalated a tad and ended with me telling the secretary to "stop talking cause i dont want to listen to you right now." And while I was able to work my way out of serious consequinces, something is just gnawing at me. I just feel angry about a lot of things at the moment, and I don't know what to do about it. :frown:

That's normal at your age.

That won't mean anything until you're ten-ish years older, though, so I can see how that might not exactly be helpful advice. Just try and reflect on the things you're actually angry about. Sometimes just having a direction for your frustration to go in helps.

You're young with a sports injury. You're accustomed to being able to physically do just about anything you want. Of course you're angry.

In and of itself, that's not a bad thing. But it can lead to bad things if left unchecked.

I'm no
shrink, but I have to assume that what you're doing right now is a great first step. You're acknowledging both that you did something you regret but also that there are deeper issues that need to be handled. Keep reflecting on it and seek help where necessary. I'm sure your school has a counselor. Have you spoken with them?

Counseling. You went through a traumatic experience that changed your life. The anger you're feeling likely stems from that, and you're not sure what to do about it. Counseling will help you to come to terms with what happened.

The thing about the Pokemon TCG from what I remember is that if you build your deck right, it's going to do the exact same thing almost every single time - variance is almost a non-factor.

Which makes disruption ridiculous because the vast majority of decks aren't built with any redundancies to handle even slight disruption.

Basically, in order, your building
priorities should be to:
1. Do the same thing every game.
2. Disrupt your opponent.
3. Play a Pokemon with a fat ass and broken attack.

If your deck does that, you can beat 99% of the Pokemon players I've ever met.

Thanks guys for having my back. Most of it (imo) comes from how we lost yesterday. We were up 21 and ended up losing by 25. Sitting there as a senior with an injury just makes me feel so helpless. I am a goddamn all-state football player, I should be out there playing with them, they need me. I can't just sit here and do nothing. I can't even lose with my team. Im just there....
