More along the lines of Mazes end is possible and it's reasonable to expect some crazy person to top 8 an event with mazes end spiking all the prices of those cards.
Kiora and Courser of Kruphix are a big game.

You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.

Yeah, Volcanic Fallout ended my use of Fairies. Illness in the Ranks will be a sideboard card finally.
@Freedom, Fairies was quite oppressive. It can lock out certain decks like Tron or decks that play at sorcery speed. It's almost annoying as Land destruction.
Has the rule on mana leaving the pool between turn phases changed cause that's what made Mystbind Clique mean.

It did change, but in the wrong direction. Mana pools empty at the end of steps now whereas before it emptied at the end of phases (most phases only have one step anyway, so it's basically the same as ever).Has the rule on mana leaving the pool between turn phases changed cause that's what made Mystbind Clique mean.

Right, I had my sets backwards, happens a lot with myFallout came before BBE and didn't do much to stop the fae. It helped, but it wasn't enough by itself.Faeries was the best deck until BBE came along. Then it was just another deck. It thrived against Doran Rock and other Tarmogoyf decks, as well as against red aggro and combo.
Volcanic Fallout came shortly after, the nail in the coffin. They printed that card just to stop Faeries, to put things in perspective.

nAlara Reborn ushered in all sorts of decks, with Cascade and 5 Color Control pushing Faeries away. The meta shifted dramatically.
I stand by Faeries falling out of favor before then, though. Decks like Boat Brew were on top.
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.

I've been thinking about Maze's End for the past couple of days. It does seem pretty good now. I think you can afford to run one copy of each guildgate since you now have Kiora as an alternate wincon. If Nightveil Specter exiles one of your gates, just UNLEASH THE KRAKEN!!! That way you can be solidly in Bant colors for Detention Sphere, Supreme Verdict, Sphinx's Revelation, Urban Evolution, Kiora, Jace, etc. Throw in Elixir for potential milling of gates plus cycling your cards and you have a deck?

are you going to be able to protect Kiora well enough to do that though? I don't know, it's been beaten into me pretty well that you should never rely on a PW's ultimate.I've been thinking about Maze's End for the past couple of days. It does seem pretty good now. Jace is bad in Mazes End. Defend the Hearth will protect Kiora. Mazes end is all about using your fogs correctly, and understanding when it's better to fog or take damage.
[deck]Lands: 25
4 Maze's End
2 Azorius Guildgate
2 Dimir Guildgate
2 Golgari Guildgate
1 Gruul Guildgate
2 Izzet Guildgate
2 Orzhov Guildgate
1 Rakdos Guildgate
2 Selesnya Guildgate
2 Boros Guildgate
2 Simic Guildgate
1 Forest
2 Island
Instants: 18
4 Fog
4 Druid's Delieverance
4 Defend the Hearth
3 Riot Control
2 Sphinx's Rev
1 Cyclonic Rift
Sorcery/Ench: 14
4 Supreme Verdict
3 Detention Sphere
2 Urban Evolution
3 Divination
1 Merciless Eviction
1 Crackling Perimeter
Creatures: 3
3 Gatekeeper Vine[/deck]
Been running that all season and can easily 3-1/4-0 FNM. Came in 9th at States with it. Except at States i ran Saruli Gatekeeps instead of the vines.

I guess my point was that the most popular deck in the format runs 4x Hero's Downfall and with the B/R scryland people now have access to 4x Downfall and 4x Dreadbore.Jace is bad in Mazes End. Defend the Hearth will protect Kiora. Mazes end is all about using your fogs correctly, and understanding when it's better to fog or take damage.
EDIT: I mean, we've always had ACCESS to it, just now more people will be combining those colors with the inclusion of the scryland.

That's the beauty though, wraspy. Kiora is the alternate wincon while doing exactly what the deck wants to do.
Purp, thoughts on one-of guildgates and more hard removal over fogs?

Sorry, I'll fully state my thought process. I was leaving out bits and pieces. That's the beauty though, wraspy. Kiora is the alternate wincon while doing exactly what the deck wants to do.

You first posted about Nightveil Specter taking a 1-of Guildgate, and you wondered if that would be OK because you can rely on Kiora's ultimate. I would think that situation renders your primary win condition moot.
But that's also the deck that runs 4x Hero's Downfall, which kills Kiora without combat damage, which therefore can not be fog'd.
If B/r Devotion becomes a thing and still runs Nightveil, that will give the deck access to even more PW hate in the form of Dreadbore.

When I ran Maze's End at states, Ashiok was popular in the Esper builds at that time. With UB possibly being a strategy, more mill cards might see play. But if not, I think you could cut SOME of the guildgates to 1 ofs, the rakdos and orzohv one come to mind. I always thought negates or essences scatters wouldn't be terrible. I do think we need to find courser a home in the deck.

If he takes a gate AND has all the things for Kiora, I'm willing to live with that. But that's why I'd consider an Elixir in the mainboard to shuffle cards back into the deck.Sorry, I'll fully state my thought process.
