It's a 1-power red 1gdrop, making it not very strong in Modern and difficult to evaluate for standard when we don't know whether or not aggro decks will want to play enough non-creature spells to allow this thing to consistently attack for 2+ damage.

I think Heroic might actually be really fucking good in the coming standard. Fabled Hero, Anax and Cymede, and a few other choice Heroic cards are actually secretly very strong.

I played RW Heroic in a few FNMs and I was surprised at how fast the deck could be. It is very thought-intensive though, the math is tricky sometimes.

Actually it occurs to me how good High Sentinels might be with Heroic. Akroan Skyguard, Fabled Hero, Dawnbringer Charioteers, Favored Hoplite, Hero of Iroas, Lagonna-Band Trailblazer, PHALANX LEADER!, Wingsteed Rider?

And those are only the white ones. You can play whatever secondary color has the best combat tricks/enchantments. I personally like red for Hammerhand, Anax and Cymede, Titan's Strength, Inferno Fist, etc, but I could see green being good because there's some decent green enablers too.

I agree with you. Card probably slots into boss slight type strats, but for generic red agro decks doing reasonably normal things, I'll pass.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Yeah, I could see something like:

4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Foundry-Street Denizen
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Borderland Marauder
4 War-Name Aspirant
4 Goblin Rablemaster

4 Shock
4 Lightning Strike
4 Hordeling Outburst
4 Stoke the Flames

20 Mountain

to punish early decks with poorly-thought-out mana
bases.

You don't think 16 one drops is a bit excessive? Maybe drop a couple to increase you two drops to 4-ofs? I am a big fan of 2-3 Frenzied Goblins, though.

I can't find any two drops I REALLY want right now though, maybe [card]Mogis's Warhound[/card]. I figure more one drops lets me pay for Frenzied Goblin's effect and any one drop combat trick. Maybe Coordinated Assault is worth looking into?

Don't know... depends on what we expect the new format to look like. Right now, all I really know is that a lot of people are going to be playing 3+ color with incredibly slow/painful mana bases.

The more I think about it, the more I like the deck - especially since it'll cost me like $5.00 to put together.

Things to watch out for in the new format:

Siege Rhino: Finally played against a good durdling 3 color deck. Rhino is obnoxious. It's like a 4 mana grey merchant that happens to be bigger and has trample. This combined with sorin is a beating. Sorin's extra savage because the creatures still have lifelink after they pass the turn. Got blown out by a 1/3 lifelinking caryatid because I don't know how to read :(

Enchantress: Doomwake giant will wrath your board everyturn after 5. I have a build that's bug instead of Junk because Sidisi gives it another threat and lets you play nyx weaver which is both good against agro and a tutor effect going long against midrange and control strats.

Those are the only things I've had real trouble with playing agro. As such, war name aspirant is looking extra good and I can get behind things like Mogis
warhound and hammerhand. Stoke doesn't kill the rhino, so you ideally want a way to get around it. Warhound making your creatures bigger is just a nice tough.

The other option is going full boss sligh and trying to kill people by turn 4.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I'll be making two decks, Boss Sligh and Abzan Midrange. Like Redthirst said Red is literally going to cost me nothing to build since I have the Rabblemasters already.

LP, what's the Abzan list you played against? I'm interested in comparing what everyone is brewing in those colors.

His deck had 2 Ajani's, but it was also 61 cards.

His sideboard was largely a pile and not worth mentioning.

I was wondering if Rhino was better then polyk, but against agro, the answer is definitely yes. In the mirror, PolyK is probably better assuming you dodge removal just because it's bigger and the life clause is less relevant.

I also saw an Abzen deck that was basically Mono-Black control with rhino replacing demon. It was...obnoxious.

For manabase, decide how many of each color you want, start with one, then go to the next, then go to the next. Ex. say you're playing white based anafezna agro with soldier of the pantheon. You decide you want 17 white sources, 14 black, 12 green. You should choose your 17 white, prefereably 14 untapped sources, look at how many of these double as black sources, then add up to 14 black and so on. When the numbers don't gel, you can do a number of things from making your mana more painful/slow with confluences and tri-lands, "cheating' on colors where you're mana's greedy and more high variance(the Wescoe Gambit), or simply retool your deck to get the ratio's in line.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.
