I'm partial to the 2nd list myself, but you should probably find a way to put in Ash Zealot. I've been running a similar list but with Reckoner in the side since he does his best work against aggro matchups.

In the first list, I don't really like Volley and think those slots could be better spent on things like another Hound and Conscripts.

I also don't think Hellrider is neccessary since you're more midrange than aggro and I would like to see another KWR.

Any thoughts on adding any of the new stuff to the list? I think the Goblin of Bogarden and DS Hydra could warrant testing.

So a deck with 4 Vexing Devils got 3rd place at the Columbus 5k. The fuck?
What's the list look like?
[deck]4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Vexing Devil
Creatures [16]
4 Boros Charm
4 Brimstone Volley
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
4 Skullcrack
3 Thunderbolt
Spells [23]
4 Clifftop Retreat
13 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
Lands [21]
SIDEBOARD
1 Blasphemous Act
2
Grafdigger's Cage
2 Oblivion Ring
3 Reckless Waif
3 Torch Fiend
1 Tormod's Crypt
3 Volcanic Strength[/deck]
Well, if you're going to run vexing devil, that is the list for it. It looks like it still suffers from the problems we've had since the rotation of SoM block: no way of extending damage (i.e. something like shrine or lavamancer). Moreover, half the decks are still lifegain hell, MD, and a few skullcracks doesn't fix that problem.
You're going to want to hit those with the special shampoo.
There's also a comb you need to use.

The second list is better. I'm trying RG lists myself, but have been leaning heavy green for more undying critters with mixed results.

I'm personally a huge fan of Volley but only in the appropriate list. You probably don't want it in that first list since you are going to be playing Stonewright, Rancor, AND KWR. You should rarely have three open mana within the first six turns of the game which is when you want to be using Volley the most.

Consider adding a second KWR to the first list and maybe switching out a Reckoner for another Hellrider to compensate for the loss of red mana. Turn the Volleys into a Ghor-Clan Rampager and a fourth Rancor and I think you have a better list.

To be honest I'm starting to fall out of favor with Reckoner in the mainboard. Ive been seeing so many decks that deal with Reckoner efficiently on MTGO that I'm starting to lean more toward Pyreheart Wolf again. It may sound crazy, but I'd consider dropping Reckoner altogether for the Wolves. In my experience I've preferred having Wolf in all matchups except the mirror, where Wolf is still effective in allowing us to get around the opponent's Reckoner.

Do you want to max out on Stonewright in that first list? I feel like 3 is plenty, maybe even 2.

That's hardly true. Let's look at your post shall we?
Checking in, hello redbros! Day 73, had a new lady over last night. She brought the first season of Doctor Who (2005). Nerd alert!

I'm dragging some serious ass at work today now. My night was not restful.
Now with some very minimal changes, we can make it so the reader doesn't have to do the tedious work of making an assumption:
Checking in, hello redbros! Day 73, had a new lady over last night. She brought the first season of Doctor Who (2005). Nerd alert!

I'm dragging some serious ass at work today now. My night was not restful.

...because I spent it fucking her.
See how much clearer that is for the reader?

You may be the king of not yanking it and, consequently, making women think they've sat on a running fire hose, but your English comp could use some work.

Also, Game of Thrones. I've been trying to find a clip of the music from the ending credits where Danny left the city. It was a military style march, very catchy.

I hope the song was better than the week before's ending - the punk rock version of The Bear and the Maiden Fair.

Damn never let anyone know you have any money. Good friend of mine all of a sudden tells me he wants to open his own business and wants me to help invest in it. I just want to let the money chill out while I figure out a way to save and invest it. Only thing I've done is pay off my credit card debt and buy some magic cards. Ugh I don't want shit getting awkward.

3 Traitorous Blood
2 Brimstone Volley
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Hound of Griselbrand
1 Kessig Wolf Run
3 Flames of the Firebrand[/deck]
Right, perhaps a few more comments now that I'm not writing on my phone.

The first deck is trying to be a bit more mid-range, but it feels a bit all over the place to be honest. I've tried a similar version with Cacklers instead of Stonewright and Wolfir Silverhearts instead of Zealous Conscripts, and with no Volleys. That's the version I've been testing against my mono-black deck. I wasn't very satisfied with it, felt a bit too slow really.

The second deck is a lot more aggressive and faster, and it feels more solid. I've been testing that one as well against the mono-black, mostly just to see the difference in speed. And it shows,
it eats the mono-black deck for breakfast, even post-sideboard.

@rcwraspy: About the lack of Ash Zealots in the second...yeah, it would be nice to have them, but I don't know what to take out. Perhaps move the Reckoners and one Rampager to the SB? I've been thinking of moving the Reckoners there anyway.

@redthirst: Brimstone Volleys was added to have at least something against Obzedat and similar. I felt so helpless playing against it, there was really nothing I could do against it. Especially when it hit the table in round 3-4 due to ramp (it was an BWG deck). But perhaps it's a lost cause trying to battle that one with Volleys and a faster deck is better. Hellriders in the first deck are perhaps a bit pointless, that's true. I haven't looked to much at the Dragon's Maze cards with these decks in mind yet, but I will have to do it since I won't be able to play them before the new cards are legal anyway.

@Valdarith: Looks like the consensus is that the second deck is better, that's what I'
m thinking as well. I've been thinking about that Green-based deck myself, I have the cards (except Gyre Sages) but I haven't tried anything yet. You're probably right about Volleys in the first deck. And Reckoners in the SB...I think that might be the thing to do in the second list, like I said above. Wolves instead might work, at least with the Maulers. But I'm leaning towards Ash Zealots.

Yikes. Just let him know it's money you should have made anyway so you have it earmarked for expenses.

Thats' funny that I had the same thoughts last night Vala Re: Reckoner.

@Platypus: The lists are missing pillars of flame. I'd swap out the FotF for them to be honest, you need to be interacting with decks you want FotF against earlier to prevent being overrun by the time you could even hit 3 mana.

I also think wolves deserve a place, -1 LM -1 Ash/BTE +2/3 Wolves?

I've had good results with this:

[deck]Creatures - 30
4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Burning Tree Emissary
4 Flinthoof Boar
4 Ash Zealot
2 Lightning Mauler
4 Ghor-Clan Rampager
2 Pyreheart Wolf
2 Hellrider

Other Spells - 10
2 Pillar of Flame
4 Rancor
4 Searing Spear

Land - 20
4 Stomping Ground
4 Rootbound Crag
2 Temple Garden
10 Mountain

Sideboard
n3 Boros Reckoner
1 Pyreheart Wolf
1 Hellrider
3 Flames of the Firebrand
3 Volcanic Strength
2 Traitorous Blood
2 Mizzium Mortars
[/deck]

I may get flamed for this, but in this list my experience has said that Pyreheart Wolf and Hellrider serve almost the same function unless my opponent's battlefield is empty, at which point I'm winning anyway. So I have a 2/2 split and bring a third of one or the other (or both) when needed.

Reckoner comes in for the aggro matchups, especially against Naya Blitz where I'm theoretically the slower deck (although some games are exceptions to that rule).

I've also found that just 4x Searing Spear isn't enough reach for my tastes, so there's 2x Pillar. It's helped me tempo and swarm for the win but has also helped me with reach for late game dome kills.

Ghor-Clan is an absolute all-star here. I used to run a slightly different build with 2x but my win percentage has skyrocketed since adding the other 2. He's just a blowout every time and
drawing multiples is never bad.

Please, no GoT spoilers! We haven't seen anything from the third season yet (I'm not paying for the local HBO channel).
So, you know nothing?
