I'm keeping my Snapcasters unless I'm getting a GREAT deal on a trade.

when you play bonfires with Chandra, you're playing with fire. Maybe FotF is more consistent with her

Also if you play her into a thragtusk thats just gonna kill her, did you not get at least some profitable swings off of her? Hellrider past the tapped thrag? Or throw a reckoner down in front of the thrag before you play her?

Picked up possibility storms last night, also traded Snapcaster for 2x Watery Grave and 1x Breeding Pool. Worth? Cuz I think worth.
I was pretty far behind at that point. I don't think it mattered what I dropped, I was dead. Tomorrow I'm going to give sledgehammer a spin at my GPT. I think it's much more comfortable for me.

Just got back from FNM doing M14 draft. Went 3-0 with a BR list.

[deck]BR No Rares[/deck]

My sac outlets and Deathgaze Cockatrices were MVP. Would have wanted more Acts, but only one came my way.

I know I might not be in the right position to be saying this, but would anyone else be willing to take over the AiR thread and upgrade the first post into a primer? A deck like that that's so popular among the clan should have a primer that's a but more polished.

@Johhny
Most of issues you mentioned are straight deck issues. It needs tuning, not throwing it to bin. Look.
- some people would say that playing Chandra and Bonfire is risky as hell. I'd say it's unsynergistic.
- you didn't played removal which is actually strong against midrange (Mizzium Mortars) opting for low-impact cards like Shock.
- Chandra is not in the strongest spot in midrange matchup. Yet she did her job fine. Killing off a creature, pinging player then fogging Tusk. That's really not bad.
- Maindeck Burning Earths are something that make me feel weird as well (decided to put them in due to most people running them like that).

So... let's try to fix things up.

[deck]Creatures (16)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Hellrider
4 Thundermaw Hellkite

Lands (24)
21 Mountain
3 Mutavault

Spells (20)
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
4 Mizzium Mortars
4 Brimstone Volley / Flames of the
Firebrand
4 Chandra, Pyromaster

Sideboard (15)
4 Rolling Temblor / Ratchet Bomb
4 Skullcrack
4 Burning Earth
3 Possibility Storm[/deck]

- Reduced lands count due to changes to curve.
- Changed Phoenix to Zealot for better curve and having offensive/defensive creature instead of full offense. That might be a mistake, but worth testing.
- Moving Burning Earth to SB.
- Filling deck with high-impact burn/removal: Mizzium Mortars and Brimstone Volley (or Flames of the Firebrand)
- 4 Chandras, feel free to reduce em to 2 and put something else in the spot (Blasphemous Act maybe?)

Realized there's only one more PTQ this season that I have a reasonable likelihood of going to. PTQ Santa Clara on the 10th.

Deck options include Reid Duke Jund, Jedi Jund, Lifebane Jund, UWR control, or Kibler Gruul.

Jedi Jund is probably a trap, and Lifebane Jund is either great or too deep.

Reid's deck is exactly the type of deck that wins PTQ's along with any sort of UWR flash deck since they're solid, proven, powerful, and skill intensive, with Jund also being incredibly forgiving. Kiblers deck on the other hand is fast, proactive, and plays burning earth which is where I think I want to be.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Turning an opponent's Sphinx's Revelation into a Think Twice sounds good. Your Thundermaw Hellkite into Rakdos Cackler, not so much.

If it wasn't for the casting cost, I'd consider it in the AIR decks. The drawback wouldn't be so bad for you there.

The saga continues. My ex-wife pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge of endangering a child. She gets two years of probation and mandatory counseling, plus some other stuff I can't remember. She does have supervised visitation of one hour per week with my daughter, but she has to pay for it, and it's through the county. A monitor and an off-duty officer are on hand during the visits.

I completed the intake interview with the visitation service yesterday and learned that she's telling everyone that their trip to Mexico was an authorized vacation that turned into a kidnapping attempt. They asked me what I thought about that. I told them it was crap. They agreed with me even though they're supposed to remain mostly neutral.

What sucks is that I have to drive about 50 miles to the service for the visitation each week. They're open on only two nights, which cuts down on the number of classes I can teach. I need to see
about moving to another location that's closer to me.

I like reid duke's jund list, with a few golgari charms in the board, if there wasn't already.

Also guys, what do
you think of this list:

[deck=Im a Bitch(or junk reanimator)]
4 Thragtusk
4 Restoration Angel
4 Avacyn's PIlgrim
3 Arbor Elf
2 Obzedat, Ghost Council
1 Shadowborn Demon
2 Angel of Serenity
2 Fiend Hunter

4 Grisly Salvage
2 Mulch
4 Unburial Rites
2 Lingering Souls
1 Putrefy
2 Garruk Relentless

4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Temple Garden
3 Godless Shrine
2 Isolated Chapel
2 Woodland Cemetary
2 Sunpetal Grove
2 Gavony Township
3 Forest
1 Cavern of Souls

SB
1 Garruk Relentless
2 Tree of Redemption
1 Golgari Charm
2 Profit//Loss
1 Fiend Hunter
2 Acidic Slime
3 Sin Collector
2 Abrupt Decay
1 Putrefy

[/deck]

It is basically just BBD's list with a few tweaks. I don't know how viable this still is, but seems like it could work due to its off the radar-ness due to the ooze. I want to fit some lifebane zombie, but i also like Fiend hunter.... hmmms deckbuilding is hard :(

Actually, scratch that, i don't think the deck is that good, or positioned right now. It still has problems vs aggro, and the decks it would ususally say "haha, imma outvalue you!" to are now turning off that source of Card advantage with ooze.

I like improving. I actually feel like i can say this on my own, and not feel like an idiot! YES!

I probably just drew into top 8 since I'm in third right now. My Modern AIR is kicking ass and my only match loss was because I'm running Burning Earth instead of Blood Moon.

Wish me luck.

Kibler's deck was played in a 3 round tournament that was gonna be filled to the ass with UWr and Jund.

In my belief it seriously doesn't have the consistency to take down an event with a bunch of shit.

It straight up folds to R/g match-up too. Has no answer to VS, or Reckoner. You don't want to fold to R/g in a PTQ Kincey.

If not Saito's Green stompy or my red splash take on it (which hey! Gets to play Burning Earth AND Domri Rade the two best cards in Kibler's deck), Reid's Jund-when played to the max and not like all those other scrubs that top 8 with misplays- is definitely a serious deck. its the deck to beat right now for a reason.

That's where I'm at right now, and it does feel pretty good.

I need waaay more games with it though to see whether the opportunity cost I'm paying is too great or not. Aka I could be playing ramp into craterhoofs, or I could be playing true stompy with just the green and revenge of the hunted/giant growths/mutavaults. Not sure if my take on the deck is better or just happens to be well
positioned or what.

I do think Junk Midrange can do some very powerful things unburial rites or not. Resto angel thragtusk are still cards people ;P

It was pretty insane. He had a pillar at the end of the combo too for a dork.

Just a Modern FNM. I scrubbed out in top 8 though. Got pretty much my worst matchup in Junk random stuff running Lingering Souls, Deathrite Shaman, Tidehollow Strix, etc. Managed to get him to one life G1 but he got Deathrite Shaman out and started gaining life and I ran out of gas. Game two we both mull to five and I proceed to topdeck land after land.

Oh well, I had a lot of fun playing in my first Modern event. This AIR deck is pretty good!

Anyone mind a headcount of who's playing what ATM? Trying to see what to work on and who to talk to for game day.

I'be been bouncing between a KDW brew and an AiR brew that needs more testing. Thoughts on what's better vs what MUs?

I'm playing Modern AIR and have played Standard AIR and KWD extensively. Right now I'm favoring a KDW-like deck in this meta to push through decks like Jund that are a heavy part of the metagame.

I haven't played in two months so I'm a bit out when it comes to decks. For Game Day I'm either taking some AIR list or KDW, haven't decided yet. I got great results with my Gruul Sligh two months ago, second place out of 24 at the FNM, and fifth place at a GPT (it was small though). But that was months ago and I don't think it's the deck to take to GD. I don't have any red/green mythics, so I can't use the Big Red lists or Fate's Gruul Ragehammer (which looks like fun).

I haven't played Modern for ages, but I recently ordered the Shared Animositys I needed for my All In Goblin deck, so I'll probably try that first, then some of the AIR variants. I have a Gruul Zoo deck as well (without Tarmogoyfs), but the goblins look like more fun.

The stupidity on MTGS is getting so far out of hand that it's almost as if they're intentionally doing it to make our heads spin.

See example here.

Hurr, Frostburn Weird seems bad but Curse of the Pierced Heart SO GOOD! ITS VALUE CAUSE IT DOES DAMAGE EVERY TURN!

The main deck is almost as bad.

There's literally no way this deck won five rounds of real Magic. Probably not even against kitchen table warriors.

That's an Adrian Sullivan list. You know, 19 Pro Tours Adrian Sullivan.

I played

Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.

Great guy to have around? Hell yes.
I love the D...

Which match up is that? I mean, I think it needs a few adjustments, but it should be decent against Jund and UWR.
I really can't see it being good against UWR, postboard you get Burning Earth (because playing it mainboard seems absolutely miserable) but I don't think you can actually beat them without it, and you have no way of guaranteeing that you'll draw it due to having no real draw engine. Eventually they'll just outdraw you. G1 is weighted against you unless you draw on curve.

Against UWR, Stonewright > [card]Ash
Zealot[/card] is really strong. [card]Chandra's Phoenix[/card] and Thundermaw Hellkite are really good against them too. Chandra, Pyromaster is at it's best vs control. If Burning Earth hits, it's really, really good against them. I don't think it's that bad.

I tweaked it to this (for the sake of my own comfort playing the deck):

[deck]Lands (25)
21 Mountains
4 Mutavault

Creatures (24)
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stonewright
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Hellrider
4 Thundermaw Hellkite

Spells (11)
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
3 Bonfire of the Damned

Sideboard (15)
4 Ratchet Bomb
3 Burning Earth
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack
2 Mark of Mutiny[/deck]
