I do like how the pros they selected all have skills that compliment each other. Melissa's a limited expert. Reid's a superstar who's well versed in all constructed formats, and MJ's a solid player in all non-eternal formats who's a big part of the streaming community as it where.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Thinking about building a Ruric-Thar commander deck. All I need to do is draw cavern and I win right?

I will not play AiR in Standard. I love the Sligh archetype, and as long as Sligh is well-positioned in Standard, I will not play anything else.
There, now it's in writing.

Why Stonewright stopped being played? You know that now we actually have additional combos in form of Mindsparker in terms of being awesome guy who kills everything while getting soulbonded with Stonewright? Or even Boros Reckoner, but he requires additional mana. Not to mention Exava.

[deck]Creatures (24):
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stonewright
4 Ash Zealot
4 Mindsparker
4 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
4 Thundermaw Hellkite

Other Spells (12):
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
4 Doom Blade

Lands (24):
4 Dragonskull Summit
4 Blood Crypt
16 Mountain

Sideboard (15):
15 Cards[/deck]

Stonewright is an increnental advantage card and the format has devolved into nutdraws and haymakers ~ it's just not that well positioned currently.

Still love him.

What z said.

People are enticed by the new toys we get to play with. That's my guess as to why Stonewright isn't played as much.

Have you been able to test
Mindsparker yet? I think that Phoenix would be a better fit over the 'sparker. The evasion, recursion, and synergy with Hellkite all work in its favor. Mindsparker would be good at killing creatures in a more defensive role, but Phoenix is better at getting damage through in an aggressive strategy.

I don't think you can get much worse at this game than passing with an open green and a scavenging ooze in play with a lingering souls in the opponents GY.

He stabilized that game at 2 health, the two toughness from those souls.

yup.

This is probably the most true thing not about redthirt's deck that's ever been posted here.

I will now re-evaluate every card in my deck with this view of the format in mind

Stonewright with Mutavault around feels a bit redundant, anyhow. But I suppose that's just my viewpoint on that.

Agree wholeheartedly with both recs; two of my fave Indian dishes.

Surprisingly, McCormick makes a "one pan" recipe product that makes an acceptable Tikka Masala; it is nowhere in the league of a good Indian restaurant, but it is an easy-prep/by-the-numbers meal that is very tasty and gets better the next day after the flavors intermix overnight in the fridge.

If anyone's interested in the best, coolest most rewarding deck in standard, check out the aristocrats thread viewtopic.php?f=81&p=87534#p87534
I'll take a look at the article, LK...I was under the impression that Crats was getting hated out of the meta (token strategies in general). What do you see as the best game plan for a UWR-heavy room?

EDIT: Duh--should have posted this over in the Crats thread and so I just did; please feel free to comment over there rather than here for sake of continuity.

From Pedro Carvalho (Megaphone):

[deck]
18 Mountain
2 Mutavault

4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Firefist Striker
2 Lightning Mauler
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix

1 Faithless Looting
1 Geistflame
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Shock
4 Searing Spear

SB:
2 Mutavault
2 Electrickery
3 Mizzium Mortars
4 Skullcrack
4 Burning Earth[/deck]
I saw this list too. It is interesting to me minus the geistflame and faithless looting. I'm guessing he was trying those out. I'd rather see BSV or Hellrider. Young Pyromancer builds look bad vs [card]golgari charm[/card:
9x3yow39], [card]curse of death's hold[/card] etc. If I get another testing sesh in tonight, I'll try it out.

Been playing with UWR / Jund a lot lately to try to learn about them and what their draws are like. Those decks are OP / mindless. People don't give red bros enough credit.

Regarding Stonewright : he was the hero we deserved, but not the one that we need right now. He is a silent protector, a watchful guardian, the Red Knight.

Could totally see Blood Knight and Stonewright being bros. If they were real people, they'd be getting drunk at the bar sharing war stories. Blood Knight would start a fight with his first strike and then Stonewright would help him smack a bitch with his kitten mittens. Kinda like the cantina brawl in Star Wars, except nobody is gonna lose an arm.

I am not sure if this part of forum is a good place to share non-red brews, but I'll give it a try.

[deck]Creatures (30):
4 Experiment One
4 Wasteland Viper
2 Deathrite Shaman
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Lotleth Troll
4 Dreg Mangler
2 Varolz, the Scar-Striped
4 Deadbridge Goliath
2 Kalonian Hydra

Other Spells (6):
2 Rancor
4 Doom Blade

Lands (24):
4 Woodland Cemetery
4 Overgrown Tomb
2 Swamp
14 Forest

Sideboard (15):
4 Scavenging Ooze
11 Cards[/deck]

I like all the synergies in deck. Every card makes Experiment One grow (Strangleroot Geist makes it happen twice). I'm playing a lot of efficent beaters who don't die easily and can grow. +1/+1 counters matter but deck works fine without any "combo". Some ideas about changing the deck:
- Corpsejack Menace: this guy is really decent. 4/4 for 4 is not bad. And has synergy with nearly every card in the deck. He turns Kalonian Hydra from status
of being awesome into godlike. I'm not sure if I keep my math right but... Hydra enters the field as 8/8. Then when it attacks it should grow by another 8, but grows by 16 - turning it into 24/24 monster. Sorry Progenitus.
- Jarad: I think he's too mana-intensive, too GY-dependant and too weak on his own. Still, he could see some play here.
- Mana Dork: probably Arbor Elf. Doesn't make Experiment One grow or serves as battle trick, but makes things much faster.
- Golgari Charm: not sure if Terminus is played. If not, Golgari Charm has the place in maindeck.

Any opinions?

Uhhhhh. Nah-nah nah-nah.

So my buddy insists on borrowing my Mutavaults.

Sad face. I hate being a good friend.

Thinking of running this as a shitty alternative :

[Deck]
4x Stonewright
4x Ash Zealot
4x Boros Reckoner
4x Chandra's Phoenix
4x Hellrider
3x Thundermaw Hellkite

3x Shock
4x Pillar of Flame
4x Searing Spear
2x Flames of the Firebrand

3x Hellion Crucible
21x Mountain

3x Skullcrack
3x Mizzium Mortars
3x Volcanic Strength
2x Traitorous Blood
4x Burning Earth
[/DECK]

Talking about Stonewright today really makes me miss that little critter.

Also, don't play 4 CJM. Test him out if you want, but not as a 4-of. He is too slow. He is a 4 drop that won't have any immediate impact on the game aside from making E1 get 2 counters instead of one. Deadbridge Goliath isn't so hot either, but at the moment, I can't think of anything to put in his spot that doesn't fuck up your curve.

Yep, I reduced CJM to 3 (to find a place for additional Varolz... this guy is nuts!). I also added Oozes (so my only instants/sorceries are Doom Blades). Wasteland Vipers seem underwhelming tho. What are the alternatives? I was thinking about Dryad Militiant - aggresive drop, with Varolz gives 2 +1/+1 counters for G, hoses bad matchup (control). All I dislike in this card is fact of playing Selesnya card in Golgari deck (call me weird).

And this deck has some nutdraws!
T1: Dryad Militiant
T2: Strangleroot Geist
T3: Dreg Mangler
T4: Strangleroot Geist + Doom Blade
Kaboom!

Lotleth Troll seems a bit underwhelming unless it's me who just don't know how to play him. It was easy in the Zombies - drop Gravecrawlers, have fun. But here? Sometimes I use it as discard outlet when I have Varolz or Ooze on the field and I want to get rid off 1CMC drops. But usually he's just 2/1 Trample with B Regen for GB...

From Pedro Carvalho (Megaphone):

[deck]
18 Mountain
2 Mutavault

4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Firefist Striker
2 Lightning Mauler
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix

1 Faithless Looting
1 Geistflame
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Shock
4 Searing Spear

SB:
2 Mutavault
2 Electrickery
3 Mizzium Mortars
4 Skullcrack
4 Burning Earth[/deck]
I saw this list too. It is interesting to me minus the geistflame and faithless looting. I'm guessing he was trying those
out. I'd rather see BSV or Hellrider. Young Pyromancer builds look bad vs golgari charm, [card]curse of death's hold[/card] etc. If I get another testing sesh in tonight, I'll try it out.

Been playing with UWR / Jund a lot lately to try to learn about them and what their draws are like. Those decks are OP / mindless. People don't give red bros enough credit.
OK tested a bunch of games against jund, and this build is super-awkward against them. Bonfire for one and/or olivia make all the x/1's awkward.
