Good bye hyper aggro format, hello interesting deck design and thought challenging games.

Before anyone whines, aggro existed when Whipflare was in the format, so this is fine.

1RR: 3 damage to every creature at sorcery speed?
Is it real or are they kidding me?
Where do you see that?

Also, this lol:

http://www.japantoday.com/smartphone/vi ... ing-mugged

I wonder what the card was? I mean even if it was a Mox / Lotus, I would sell that shit to buy a train ticket home...[/quote:

My french is subpar, yet that should be that.
Could be a fake, though (that's why I was asking if it was real or what).
My French is sub-par too, but I believe it reads:

Fury of the Gods

Fury of the Gods deals three damage to all creatures. If a creature would die this way, it is exiled instead.

He didn't have a reason to pray. This was an act of the gods.

If this card turns out to be true, it's probably the strongest I've seen from Theros.

Hello! Red sweeper is sweet! So many possibilities...it's not Slagstorm, but the Exile clause could be very meaningful even without the ability to dome.

So, the decision to focus on a more Midrange style red this season seems to be paying off.

I think this sweeper might spell doom for Young Pyromancer decks as well. And Chandra's Phoenix suddenly doesn't look so hot either.

I for one, am not a fan.

I mean, is this card really necessary? It hurts aggro of the non-selesnya variety a lot. Playing through it will be very difficult. Main deck boros charm might have to happen.

G/W aggro hurts a little too, but not nearly as much as BTE decks. Smiter just shrugs it off. G/W is being pushed enough that it will already be a check / balance for rdw.

This card worries me.

At least the casting cost is restrictive enough that three colour control won't be able to use it on curve a lot of the time.

I have a feeling regular sligh decks won't work in this format.

Going to have to play something else (read: I won't enjoy this standard, unless something like Aristocrats pops up).

This set has a lot of cards that I really like, but more cards that I dislike than any set in recent memory lol.

At least this kills the hexproof plant.

Also starting to think White Weenie (splash
red?) looks a lot better than RDW based on what we've seen.

Maybe:

[deck]Creatures (24)
4 Banisher Priest
4 Soldier of the Pantheon
4 Dryad Militant
4 Fiendslayer Paladin
4 Precinct Captain
4 Imposing Sovereign

Spells (12)
4 Brave the Elements
4 Lightning Strike
4 Spear of Heliod

Lands (24)
4 Temple of Triumph
1 Mountain
11 Plains
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Boros Guildgate

Sideboard (15)
4 Burning Earth
1 Mountain
4 Boros Charm
3 Flames of the Firebrand
3 Chained to the Rocks[/deck]

Ok Zem, yet you've got to admit that the new wave of aggro we're going to see will be *very* different from what we've seen in Innistrad.
Also, I feel that all-in builds are just a waste of time at the moment, I'd rather wait and see how the meta shapes up.

Most certainly it was...and DoJ was in play as well. Granted, I was was playing Zombies and no sweeper/wrath meant much of anything to me until that damned miracle showed up (I cast BSZ all the time), but the exile clause in this new spell is not irrelevant. Personally, though, I don't see how this changes play any more than Supreme Verdict; it means that we may have to play more of a chess match rather than going for T4 kills, but aggro has always had to play around sweeps.

It's quite comparable to Slagstorm, both do 3 damage to all creatures and have the same cost. I didn't follow the metagame around that time though. But the double red will keep it in check. If you have a deck with a decent amount of haste creatures you can get going again fast after the sweep, and you can get a decent start during you first three turns, before it can be played. Thinking of my current brews, I can do over 10 damage before the opponent's turn 3 (thanks to Spike Jester and Phoenix). Exava on turn 4 survives it, and turn 3 hammer followed by turn four anything is quite ok as well. So yeah, it doesn't kill aggro completely, but it has to be taken into account.

It's not like super aggressive Aggro was likely to be incredibly viable from the cards spoiled so far anyway.

I mean, I intend to play Midrange Red - probably the deck that wants this card and, unless Aggro makes up a large percentage of the meta (which I just don't see), I have no intention of running it in my MD.

Well, to be fair, Shrine of Burning Rage was a card at that point in time. It could be argued that it was the card.

Hello, Reckoner. Nice to see you again. Mutavault's value just went up as well.
I do hate how this card blanks our own Phoenix. Thanks, Wizards. :(

But what decks want to play it besides Red decks? I'm not too worried about mirror matches since I can usually outplay most other Red Mages (at least in my area). I guess the question is, will this card help UWR decks or even Grixis style decks? That's what I would worry about.

I doubt Grixis will exist, but we could see an Izzet control list crop up. Demonheart Chimera lends itself well to that type of deck, although we might be a few burn spells short of that right now.

I don't think it'll help them against Aggro as much as just playing a 2-color deck would.

I like that this will line up well for making decks with bigger early drops (e.g., Naya) have to think about combat. Go ahead...block with that Smiter!

UR control is VERY short of playables, so this might be strictly a red deck card at this point.

French is one of my mother tongues, the translation below is 100% accurate

Fury of the Gods deals three damage to all creatures. If a creature would die this way, it is exiled instead.

What a card!

Anger of the Gods looks VERY fun, but like many other cards (most?) will need to be in the right deck for it to work. That combined with the decline of 3 color decks and this card's double red cost should mean it only sees a little play. Who knows what Tier 1 decks will emerge, but I wouldn't be surprised if only 1 of those decks could use it.

Z, thanks for the thoughts on Modern Grixis. It's a great starting point. I had brewed up something fairly similar, but had Thoughtseize, Snapcaster, and only 2 Dark Confidants in there. I've also been toying with whether new Chandra and/or Liliana of the Veil could/should appear in there, but of course Delver (and to a degree Pyromancer) requires a certain number of instants/sorceries, and we can't dilute much since we don't have Brainstorm/Ponder/Preordain in the format. I've seen some Modern Delver lists running Telling Time. Is that any good?

Well, the hinted Future Sighted card ended up being a 3/3 for 3... which means yet another year that I won't be able to play Steamflogger Boss Contraptions.

I just want to be able to say "my rigger!" every time one ETB. Is that too much to ask?
