I remember a buddy and I did that scene randomly as some party in front of a dude from Australia who had no clue what we were talking about.

At one point the guy just perfectly said "what?" and my buddy was like "What country you from?"

He said "Australia"

My buddy said "Australia ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in Australia?"

Which caused the guy to ask again, honestly perplexed "What?"

"ENGLISH MOTHER FUCKER! DO YOU SPEAK IT?"

The guy just left and we never saw him again.

Good thing we have instants to shoot these things. Though with the Heroic trigger, it can still get the +1/+1 counter before a burn spell resolves.
It will only get a counter if they respond to the burn spell with another spell that targets it. You can still respond to the heroic trigger, same as always.

Gods Willing is going to be magical in any Heroic deck.
I was thinking of the tried and true tactic
of shooting the creature out from under the enchantment before it resolves. For example, you couldn't kill the Hero with a Shock if they target it with an enchantment. It would get the counter before the Shock would resolve.
That's not true. If they cast an enchantment targetting the creature, the heroic trigger goes on the stack. You Shock it in response to the Heroic trigger, and it dies.

Val is right. You simply say "in response to the Heroic trigger" and cast your Shock. EZPZ casual 2-for-1.

tl;dr - Magic continues to work the way it always has.

My buddy is trying to argue that being in 3 color has no disadvantage over monocolor because the format is a turn slower. I know he's smarter than this, so I really don't understand why the conversation is happening.

It's true, your buddy must want to subconsciously give you free packs.

You should be a good friend and help him.

On one hand, I like free packs, but on the other hand, I like the store credit the shop gives out instead of packs.

Aaand here goes my deck. I mean, I'm getting blown really hard by Anger to Gods.
Good thing is, I can actually play deck I do like.
Still, I believe RB would be the best colour combination for Midrange. Even without Toughtseize, I get Cerberus, Rakdos Return and Exava. What creatures White gives you?

What are the pack / store credit ratios at your LGS? My shop will give store credit at $3/pack.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Aurelia's Fury and Firemane Angel are possibly not hot garbage in the new Standard.

Not even a suspicion, really. Just a hint of a whisper of a suspicion.

So fragile, that to even speak it out loud would tear it asunder.

Reckoner seems meh with UB Control live again. I mean, between Far / Away, Doom Blade, new Dreadbore - there's not really that much place for this fellow. He's decent, but not "grab me I'm hot as fuck" decent.
Firemane Avenger is still trash due to 3 toughness. It gets blown by Lightning Strike and Anger of Gods. It's slow. It's usable only in aggro/midrange tactic. Sorry for that redthirst, but even your donger shouldn't be able to make this card good.
Same goes for Aurelia's Fury. It costs shitzilion of mana, does nothing. When I'm using 6 mana to cast a spell, I'd rather be sure it does something. Clan Defiance kills flier, kills non-flier and burns the player. Here? Nothing.
The only card that keeps nagging me to go Boros is Wear/Tear and currently it's value doesn't look super impressive. The only playable enchantment/artifact is... Hammer of Purphoros.

I will probably still play RG Aggro, maybe
extend the curve a bit to make sideboard more transformative.

Do you remember me going all crazy about Mono Red Control? Shit's pretty decent now.

Agree on all points, mostly. Reckoner's value will very much depend on how much black shows up. But a lot of those suppositions depend on the deck you are playing: R/G may very well be better aggro, but I think red + white for Boros Charm makes for a strong midrangey burn deck.

EDIT: Scourge of Valkas is too far for me lol. Too deep.

The whole set isn't spoiled yet. So why bother? I'm not about to get invested into something when then it can all change within 24 hours.

Aurelia's Fury: cost a shazillion mana - does nothing. Don't agree with that.

Also you say there's not much room for Reckoner, but then posts a list with 4 Reckoner MB?
