That's OUR word! The Redman's word! They don't get to use it!It's not like haste is something new for green.

I must say that it's a shame that Traitorous Blood won't be around. Trample and giant creatures would be so pretty together.
I feel like Haste should be an exclusively red ability for creatures.

Still, I suppose you guys find the hydra too clunky?

The Hydra is probably okay. Not terrible, not amazeballz - I'd be surprised if it saw serious play, though.

Yeah, it really needed some kind of evasion to be a real contender.

FWIW, the BW version of the deck is also pretty sweet and is a little more under the radar; Blind Obedience rocks in the deck because it shuts down haste damage and allows you to pick things off while Extorting, then curve up intoWell, it is the deck I'm most familiar with, and the one I've had the most success with. Just stick to my guns and run it I guess. Maybe I was trying to be too cute and "attack the meta" with the above list. You want to be playing Charlie Murphy in a meta like that. GR cannot beat Mutilate.
Thanks!
Obzedat FTW since most decks are not prepared to deal with him. I thought I'd really miss Thragtusk, but Resto on Messenger, Disciple and even the demon is punishing. O Ring also gives you a mainboard way to deal with the weaknesses of BG--planeswalkers, primarily--as well as troublesome creatures like Phoenix that won't stay dead. But I think Alex is on the money...you are as prepared as anyone in this diverse meta with BG because it either outright answers things or gives you time to find answers.

My $0.02--if UW is the primary flavor of control, it may be an effective SB card depending on what else is in the cards we've yet to see. If UB is the stronger blue option, however, the hydra is no better than any other big dumb monster. And if black gets a sweeper, then no one will really care about blue anyway.Well, wasn't the first one the planeshifted Ball Lightning?
Still, I suppose you guys find the hydra too clunky?
Okay...so I'm being a little overboard with my love of black with that last comment, but the point remains that viable black-based control means a different ballgame altogether.

Obzedat is going to be a bad man when rotation hits. Look at all the stuff he dodges!
1) Any sorcery speed removal.
2) Doom Blade.
3) All red and r/x removal.
4) Abrupt Decay.
Only thing he really dies to that sees play is Putrefy and Far / Away. That's pretty solid. I think he'll really push black decks to run that new instant Dreadbore spell from THS.

There's also Dark Betrayal to hit black creatures at instant speed. At 1B, it's easier to splash.

Actually, it costs only
at instant speed; it is a silver bullet for Obzedat. The question will be how many decks are splashing black...
Of course, the great thing to consider is that if you are in BW you can play both Obzedat AND Blood Baron in your 75; they side in [card:3qaej1ce]Dark Betrayal[/card:3qaej1ce] and [card:3qaej1ce]Hero's Downfall[/card:3qaej1ce] to kill your Ghost Dad, only instead they run into a pro-black vampire that sucks the life out of them.

I don't know about common and uncommon sets for a specific color, but I know you can find complete common/uncommon sets on ebay for under $35.Is there a way to buy just the commons and uncommons in a specific color? Due to budgetary reasons, I'm thinking of sticking to just buying red for a while.

Not that I've ever seen in bulk pricing...and at $0.25 a card retail it quickly makes sense to just order a box of C/U playsets on ebay as all the dealers are flooded with them from rare-mining. Then again, if you just need a few, both Cache and...damn I'm with SM today...need more coffee...the card shop in Independence carry commons. For the new set, Cache at least keeps them up front; for older sets you usually have to give them a little lead time to dig them out from the back room.Is there a way to buy just the commons and uncommons in a specific color? Due to budgetary reasons, I'm thinking of sticking to just buying red for a while.

I spent about $30 on everything I think I'll need for RDW from the new set (minus Stormbreath Dragon) by scouting eBay. That'll probably be about the extent of my out-of-pocket expense for transitioning into post Theros Standard. Is there a way to buy just the commons and uncommons in a specific color? Who's this "we" Kemosabe? I plan to be rolling out that damn vampire the first chance I get!

Just messin' with you brother...unless black gets a sweep, I don't know if high-curve Orzhov will be viable against the red decks y'all have been brewing up. Rakdos Control a la Zeman may be the order of the day for access to Anger.

My ebay scouting is up in air based on whether or not I think the prices will drop due to the sheer amount of THS being opened. I should probably pick up Hammer and possibly temple now tho...
Also, wondering what version of mono red to play tonight. Meta right now is looking like a lot of GW brews( both token and enchantment), red mirrors (i caused this
) and Jund. Been playing Val's YP build with a few tweaks but getting tired for missing 1/2nd. Reckoner and Hexproof keep doing me in. Any ideas? Don't have the BR duals or rares, i'd go rakis for devour flesh, dreadbore and doomblade.

Run AIR. RDW? over on MTGSally just posted some pretty cool results in the AIR thread, and I'll probably be running his list (with the adjustments he suggested) to TNM next week.

Just saw it and going with this:
[deck]Air[/deck]
Haven't tested the MUs yet but looking at the list, so might need some help here but these are my thoughts:
Aggro: Pull 1 drops for Mortars, Flame, Strength ?
Vs 3 color: Cacklers for Burning earth ?
Vs midrange: Vault + Conscripts to steal big bro and swing with it, sadly wont work vs hexproof tho
Jund: Mortars, Burning, VS
Voice or X/2's: Pillar?
