They use your ID to make sure they're giving preordered product to the person who paid for it. Back when I was still a manager at Gamestop it wasn't as big of a deal, but not long before I left they started taking payments for preordered games ahead of time, meaning that it was even more important to make sure they were matching up product to faces since someone could potentially walk off with a free game.

I think his producers are forcing him to drop an album though, he posted about it on twitter
