So I knew my buddy won Nats in the philipines in 08. I did not know he won it with demigod red. Now he's my new best friend.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Doesn't sound fun. No friction, and not what I typically want to do with alcohol anyway.

@aodh, you are way too hung up on trying to get "maximum value" out of fanatic. Even getting 3 out of him is a pretty good deal when considering that he's still a 4 power body. I've laid him down on an empty board and still been happy with him. Control is our best matchup, and while reckoner is not a good tool for that match, fanatic won't miss the 1 devotion that reckoner has over phoenix.

Fantatic at worst will be a Lightning Bolt and at best a Lava Axe against Esper. Either way that's exactly where we want to be against them. Putting pressure every play. Esper builds I have been playing against have been creatureless and focus on closing out the games with Planeswalker package (Ashiok, Jace: AoT, and Elspeth) while
staying alive via heavy removal and Sphinx. Even with the removal package they lose to not being able to Sphinx big or multiple times to do what control does.

Haha great sig Nerdboy.

[deck]
Lands
23 Swamp
4 Encroaching Wastes

Spells
4 Corrupt
2 Devour Flesh
4 Diabolic Tutor
4 Doom Blade
4 Hero's Downfall
4 Thoughtseize
4 Underworld Connections

Planeswalkers
1 Liliana of the Dark Realms

Artifacts
1 Elixir of Immortality
1 Haunted Platemail
1 Pithing Needle
3 Trading Post
[/deck]

I actually think this is good now. Some notes:
- mono colour is just inherently good; we all know the colour problems decks run into in this standard.
- wastes answers Mutavault primarily, but I envision using two to colour screw an opponent or remove a Nykthos.
- the deck is 'front-loaded' with removal because I dont want to play [card]Read the Bones[/b]; Underworld Connections is just much more powerful in a game going long, so I'd rather draw 'dead' removal then
discard it to Trading Post to draw more cards.
- you've got doom blade for days against any midrange deck
- you've got Thoughtseize and Underworld Connections for control. If you didn't know, that murks Revelation.
- there are a few engines in the deck; Lilana, Connections, Trading Post.
- you get to run a Tutor package, that's SWEET, especially after sideboard.
- elixir of immortality is super important for letting you 'loop' your deck; you might need to go pretty deep to kill a control deck, but eventually you're going to tutor for Thoughtseize then Corrupt for 20...
- imagine rebutting encroaching wastes over and over to wasteland your opponent, because trolling is fun.

Not sure on the sideboard, but definitely two more devour flesh and some number of duress.

I want this to work so badly. Really I do.

I think it looks good. Tutoring up Needle is sick. Trading Post + Needle means they can't DSphere it which is nice, and you can shuffle it back with Elixir and or retrieve it with another Post for lulz.

Has anyone else desperately missed painlands since their disappearance in m10? I finally finished my full set in 10th edition thinking that they'd always be there (like they always had), and then "new world order" comes along and suddenly newb's aversion to playing good cards dicks us out of them in standard. I was honestly kinda surprised to see firedrinker satyr given their attitude against non-black cards harming you for profit.

One of my friends from work came in the other day and handed me some old Magic cards they've been holding onto. Just one ultra pro page back and front. She said she kept them for the art. They're mostly from Legends, and included an old school Nicol Bolas which was kinda cool.

There were blitz decks before burning tree emissary, and they'll exist when (s)he's rotated out. Is there any agreement on BTE's gender, because I can't tell if it's a she or just a little effeminate looking. The burning-tree clan's shaman was unambiguously manly (and damn was a badass)
Definately a girl... If she's a guy...

:gay: :gay: :gay:

Seriously though, a search for MTG blitz deck yields Naya Blitz, Gruul Blitz, Boros Blitz and Izzet Blitz.

One of these
things is not like the other... I blame Travis Woo, the king of the dicks.

Z, Titan's Strength reminds me of Rubblebelt Maaka.

He was a drinker. And a fiend.

And cool that it helps heroic shit. Unlike gay ole Rubblemelt Maaka.

Mmm...Rubblemelt. It's a grilled cheese from the Stone Age!

Rubblebelt maaka is a solid dude, were he not sharing standard with a keyword that specifically cares about spells targetting your stuff he'd be head and shoulders above titan's strength. The problem with using pump as "burn" in aggressive red variants is that an empty board blanks the card, where as maaka can still come down as a 3/3.

$9x4=36.

So maybe even cheaper than $60?

This is the train to get on if you're starting out, in my opinion.
