I don't even give a fuck about college football but the last minute plus OT of Michigan vs. Penn State has been fucking awesome.
Yup, I've been watching it.

ALIIIIIIIIIIIIII

I lost to Ali Aintrazi.... was 5-1 and got matched with him, just needed one more win and draw into top 8.

Bant lifegain bullshit

G1: I keep a risky hand because I know what hes on and I need to luck sack. He goes T3 flash chimera, T4 Prime Speaker Zegana herpaderp gain 3 more.

G2: no lander no lander mull to 5. I got some action, I beat his face in, I bluff rampager, I kill his dork...

Then he untaps with a smiter and unflinchings it.

Ok then....

Then he untaps and archangel of thunes me.

Well.....

Then he sphinx's rev for 3 before combat just for the extra daggers

FSDIOHFSDIOH

I guess it wasnt in the cards, I had dodged creature decks (inlcuding master of waves decks) all day beating up Esper and UWr and BR midrange and BW midrange decks...

Last MU was against White weenie with reckoners. G2 he had triple reckoner draw that was insane.

G3 Polis crusher killed his spear,
and he plays an imposing soveriegn post combat so I cant swing back for lethal with xenagos satyrs!! I rip clan defiance...

but I draw with him. Because when I killed his spear, I only declared polis crusher as an attacker, he made some movement and I went to my satyr and go "Oh nO SHIT CELESTIAL FLARE I SWING BOTH" he let me take it back even though he had basically shown me his hand...

If I cheese the win I make top 16, if I draw we both make top 32 for cash. He was an awesome human so we drew and he gave me a japanese polis crusher <_<b

States is tomorrow I dont know if I have the stamina.

Grats to ERBODY on your awesome job today!!!

Tubehunter: Really sorry about that bro. Best wishes for speedy healing!

So went 5-2 out of an 86 man (and 2 woman) event at states today. Only 5-1-1 or better made it into top 8; 12-24th (i think?) was tied, so I ended up at 18th. That being said, this deck is really powerful, and had I not gotten a game loss for forgetting that Hammer was in my SB (and thus only listing 14 on my deck reg. sheet) + not kept two sketch hands, I probably would've 7-0'd. Never felt like a game was unwinnable, barely even felt behind most games.

Z, thanks a billion for your hard work on the deck + sideboard plans + matchup guide. Had an excellent day of magic thanks to you.
I'd say that we need to find something that beats:
Devotion Decks (
Blue, Red, Black, Green)
UW(B) Control

And we're done with this shit.
So...Pyrored w/Chained mainboard. I beat all of those decks today, save devotion blue (which I didn't play).

I hope the mono black deck wins the PT. he figured out what I couldn't; I was using Trading Post plus connections for my discard/CA/life gain engine and he found the much better pack rat plus whip of Erobos. Well fucking done.

The rules clause is what makes Pack Rats good and is the real reason that that that is having any success. it does seem kind of counter intuitive though.

Possibly. I lent him the deck for FNM. I guess he liked it. We had been testing it for a while. It is good against devotion.

I think it'll be either that or Wafo With esper. Cause wafo with blue is usually a pretty good bet.

I've been getting yelled at through facebook because my buddy was trying to get me to play pack rat/whip. I was relectuant on playing Black devotion as I didn't like Desecration demon, but apparently just playing 8 doom blades and thoughtseize gets you there.

I so almost played that brew at states after FNM yesterday. Someone mentioned how backbreaking the surprise charm or mortar in G1 can be and how it can just curve out the nuts. My notebook does have Jets over strike for attempting fixing and only 3 vault for the 4th charm and a 4th chain in the board.

The mono-black deck is SOOOO well positioned in the top 8. All the other decks are basically combo decks, and Kentaro's plays thoughtseize and ALL THE DOOM BLADES.

Also PyRos vs Nuwen Rakdos is a fun skill intensive matchup. Roommate and I played a bunch of SB games with my Rakdos using an cobbled board and access to only 1 Demise for MB
[deck]Nonoptimal SB[/deck]

He sided out Tormented Hero and strikes for 3 Blades, 2 Bores, 3 Peak Eruption. Eruption suddenly freeing Exava can really mess with your lines lol Think out of the 4 we played we came out even. Found out the hard way that t4 Chandra can't hide behind a reckoner if there are skills to pay the mad bills. :P

I find Adrian Sullivan insufferable, even if he has a very successful past as a red mage.

I think maybe cleaning it up to :

[cards]3 Frostburn Weird
3 Chained to the Rocks
3 Shock
2 Wear // Tear
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Mizzium Mortars[/cards]

I also think the mana base could use a touch more white...

Ghostflame, where are you when we need you.
I'm getting into serious brewing mode. Trying every fucking combination of colors ever made by human being.

I'd say that we need to find something that beats:
Devotion Decks (Blue, Red, Black, Green)
UW(B) Control

And we're done with this shit.

Possible decks I'd like to try out:
UG: Master Biomancer into Propeth of Krupix into Prime Speaker Zegana. They like flashy plays? They will get flashy plays.
UB: Ratchet Bombs wreck Aggro and Master of Babes.
UR: Anger of the Gods doesn't answer Master of Babes, just his tokens - but wrecks the rest of meta.
Boros: I think it's time for some sweet, sweet Kuroda guys.
I think I'm going to go back to Big Boros. My list was basically just red
devotion with Elspeth, Assemble, Warleader's Helix and Chained. I'm going to start there and work from it.

Glanced over my life total scratchpad; I circled at least 3 places where a game slipped out of reach while my opponent was between 1-3 life, and another 2 places at 4-5 life.

LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON ABOUT SKIMPING ON REACH IN AN AGGRO SHELL. 4 Lightning Strikes go back in. You just need to close games holy shit.
So high, so low, so many things to know.

4/3 strike/jet(or the other way around) was what I was playing.

And I've never watched sully play, but I know that some people play there land for the turn upside down to avoid every forgetting if they've played a land for the turn.

Playing creatures close to you and lands closer to the opponent is just a sign of playing age the old manuals told you to do it that way.

I always play my creatures upside down so my opponent can read it.

Plus, I like it when they can see the art on my satyr and I can say, "gimme sum suga, baby."

All day, everyday.

Went 11-2 with PyroBoros today inc. a punt to not correctly calculating the board state two turns ahead (rookie error), so I didn't leave myself enough resources in what was otherwise a certain win vs. BW control (to go to 11-1). Ah well. Making dem monies.

OK 13-2. Chained to the Rocks makes such a difference against GW/Naya. They were slightly unfavourable as mono red, now they're like 55-60%. Ridiculous. Even got to ultimate a Chandra for triple lightning strike (my opponent's entire board).

[deck]
Creatures
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Young Pyromancer

Planeswalkers
3 Chandra, Best Card in Standard

Enchantments
2 Chained the the Rocks

Instants
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Shock

Lands
2 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
12 Mountain
1 Plains

Sideboard
1 Assemble the Legion
2 Boros Charm
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Chained to the Rocks
1 Hammer of Purporos
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Renounce the Guilds
1 Wear // Tear
[/deck]

Renounce and
Wear // Tear are not set in stone. I am tempted to just run 3 x Peak Eruption if Dega catches on.

Assemble + Hammer is a nice split, there are little differences between the two which makes me like the split.
- hammer is better against jace
- assemble doesn't die to putrefy or abrupt decay
- assemble is good against naya whereas hammer is pretty bad
- you can draw hammer in multiples
- hammer does only cost 3 though, and the haste clause is lovely
So far I like the split.

You lose a few points in the mirror on account of your mana base, but hopefully chained + reckoner makes up for it; you can clean answer your opponent's reckoner and phoenix; they cannot answer yours.

Playing creatures close to you and lands closer to the opponent is just a sign of playing age the old manuals told you to do it that way.
Old school, brah.

I forget which one of you noobs said it but someone said they liked playing with lands out front because they like hiding behind their mountain ranges.

I got a kick out of that.
