Game Day is infested with Desecration Demons in various BW or Dega decks... :gonk:
Still, won my first match against BW 2-0.

Decklist:

[deck]Lands (24)
21 Mountain
3 Mutavault

Creatures (19)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Boros Reckoner
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge
2 Fanatic of Mogis

Spells (17)
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Shock
1 Chandra, Pyromancer
2 Traitorous Instinct
2 Hammer of Purphoros

Sideboard (15)
4 Skullcrack
1 Traitorous Instinct
3 Ratchet Bomb
3 Pyrewild Shaman
2 Shock
2 Mizzium Mortars[/deck]
Right, the rest didn't go so well. Got to 1-3, then I dropped and
went home.

Match 1: BW

Game 1 I started out nicely, with hasty creatures that was removed one by one, and I did the same to his. Finally I got a good board presence and could finish. Game 2 he got stuck on 2 lands for a long time, so I had plenty of time to sandbag removal while chipping away at his life. 2-0

Match 2: UW

Got off to a good start game one, when Jace, AoT hit the table and slowed things down a bit and got him some great cards. Still, I managed to get him down to 1, before the first Revelation hit (for 6). And then AEtherling joined and that was it really. Game 2 became a long one. First I had to mulligan down to 5, didn't like that one at all. He got up to 36 (Fiendslayer Paladin) at one point with me at 10, when I started getting a good board presence with Chandra, Hammer, two Golems and 2 Phoenix. So I started to get some serious damage through, with him revelating twice. Got him down to 23, when AEtherling showed up. And did I see even one of my four Skullcrack in the second
game? Nope... 0-2

Match 3: Boros Aggro/Heroic

This was a matchup I felt confident I would win. Game 1 I was in control the whole time. Enough threats on the table, with removal to support. Game 2 I kept a bad hand, too much removal not enough threats. So I lost. Game 3 was very back and forth, but when Blaze Commando hit the table I became a bit worried. I had removal for that one, but not the second one that came the turn after. Had a Mortars on top of my deck, with enough lands. If I'd only had some blockers, I'd removed his whole army, and could've stabilized. But I couldn't do much about that. Damn, I thought I had this match when we started! The deck didn't look any good either from what I saw. Didn't see any Boros Charms or Warleader's Helixes, and Blaze Commando? 1-2

Match 4: RG midrange with Nykthos

Decided to play at least one more match since a 3-2 result gets boosters. Game 1 I got him down to 10 when Stormbreath Dragon arrived. But I let him
attack me with what he got, and then I stole it with Traitorous Instinct and attacked with that and two Ash Zealots (or maybe Shred-Freaks) for an even 10 damage. Game 2 I don't know what happened. I think we went back and forth the first round with creature followed with removal, then he got the upper hand and I quickly lost, probably to a dragon. Game 3 I couldn't build a presence before I got overwhelmed. 1-2

Thoughts:

Well, the deck felt quite ok today as well, but today I faced the decks I didn't face yesterday. I should have gone with a more aggro variant after all. Something similar to the deck Z just posted above. Or some Br aggro deck, with lots of haste creatures. I will scrap this deck now, and try some PyroRed, even though I don't have more than one Chandra. Chandra btw, is insanely good! But you all know that already. I'd sure like a second one, but I'm not sure how that's going to happen. Purphoros was not that impressive. I borrowed it (foil as well!) from another player, mostly
to try it out. It felt like a win-more card. If you have board presence to turn him into a creature, you're mostly likely winning anyway. But he won me the first match (against the player I borrowed it from...) so that's something.

Or maybe I'll try one more version:

[deck]
Lands (23)
21 Mountain
2 Mutavault

Creatures (24)
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Ash Zealot
4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Boros Reckoner

Spells (13)
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Shock
1 Chandra, Pyromancer

Sideboard (15)
4 Skullcrack
3 Traitorous Instinct
2 Hammer of Purphoros
2 Pyrewild Shaman
2 Shock
2 Mizzium Mortars[/deck]

Yeah, that's it. This will take down the FNM next time...

This may make me a terrible person, but I absolutely love being on the other side of asking "do you want to play or draw?", opponent wanting to play the match, and just crushing them. I've been on the side that wants to play it out and gets dicksmacked so many times. (hell, last night it happened to me the round prior to this, except I chose to draw, whew).
If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know if you're being lied to?

The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work... use more gun.

Inb4 Z on why GW agro is a terrible archetype.
Not saying you're wrong, but I live in the "show-me state", i'm going to need to ask why. I'll freely admit that mana is kinda shaky, and the dryad militant is loose choice (it's either her, judge's familiar, or less one drops), but it seems like the beats are there, what's the problem?

Multiple mulligans, manascrew then mana flood in the finals of game day. Guess I used up all my luck. Try again tomorrow.

Multiple mulligans, missing multiple landdrops in the finals of game day. The easiest win ever experienced.
Also: new playmat, dayum.

ohgodwishmeluck

I'm 3-0 right now at a 16-person game day. The two possible opponents are a r/g ramp and a mono-u devo MoW (master of whores).

I've got electrickeries in the sideboard, but I'm still REALLY worried. So close.... really wanna get that mat

Good luck, Raida!

And, yes! I have secured a sitter for the kiddo and ordered the last two pieces I needed for PyroBoros. <<fingers crossed>> I'll be headed out to Game Day tomorrow.

Went 3-1 at Game Day with Mono Red Dargons. Lost to a Selesbian in Game 3 when I attacked for exactsies and he played Charm to make a dude to block with. I died on the crackback.

Damn Selesbos.

Grats to the gameday winners!

I lost round one to GW (how, I don't really know. I'm 13-3 in games against GW, and two of those had to be today), got a bye round two, then lost round 3 in game three to America. 0'd Chandra when I should've plus'd- didn't expect 8 straight cards to be lands without a burn spell in sight. Needs more peak eruption. 15 person tournament so it wasn't worth continuing.

No, went 2-2 losing to Big Red and an interesting Boros deck in the last round. I made some adjustments to the deck after seeing what a house Truefire Paladin can be. Might make a quality 2-drop since Firedrinker Satyr gets quickly outclassed.

-sigh- Finished 2nd place in the first game day.
Just finished round 3 of game-day 2, was 2-0 going into it, but lost 1-2 this round to a rakdos aggro, cause fucked up and kept a stupid damn hand. Best I can hope for now is 2nd again. I'm really freaking pissed at myself.

If I want to do game day tomorrow, I'm thinking I need to acquire 3 more Temples of Triumph and a playset of Chained to the Rocks. I've got everything else for PyRos (<---- needs a better name). My mind loves the idea. My wallet not so much.

Edit: fixed spelling error caused by the iPad's touchscreen keyboard. XD
I've been calling it PyroWhite.

I got lucky yesterday and was able to trade for the last 2 Temples that I needed. I've got 3 chained to the rocks which I think is good enough. I put 4 Mizzium Mortars in the sideboard but part of me thinks I should pull a Yarpus and put in Last Breath for Mono-Blue Devotion. Maybe a 2 mortars of instead of 4.

Went 5-0 in testing; that's 15-1 with the more aggro Mono Red version. Gone from "average" matchups with Junk, Mono Black and BW Midrange to quite favourable; I went 3-0 vs Dega, 4-0 vs MBC in testing and 1-0 vs Junk (it was 2-0 and neither game was close). Pretty happy with it so far.

Got into one of those awkward "MODO Moments" when I beat my opponent and he insisted on berating me for 20 minutes while his clock ran out. It was kinda hilarious:
Him: these stupid red decks are all the same, they're mindless
Me: I baited you into a 4-1 mizzium mortars, that's kinda mindless as well

I have more MODO money than someone like me should ever have.

Keldon champion can get there...
Right?

Eh, it's casual, I have built numerous casual decks that fold to a single card. Heck my main edh deck almost folds to leyline (thankfully there is an equipment subtheme for arming up kumano, jaya, iron myr, sisters of flame, guttersnipe, chandra's phoenix, and charmbreaker devils, actually the current version has more equipment than dudes).

Went 5-2 overall in a local gameday finishing 2nd.

Played PyroRakdos, made top 8 (at 3-1) then lost in the finals.

Disruption with YP$ is actually the nut in the controlling/Midrange MUs.
Still unsure if Tyramet is too cute, the upside with SB act of treason for midrange has been very strong.
Happy that spike jester has a home for me, however I am unsure if Boros/Zem's new FFS+muta straight Red list is just better for the current meta.

It depends a lot on what you're seeing. I like the Boros version more than Mono Red, but MODO dictates I play mono red.

Me meta is:
2-3 GW
2-3 Mono U
2-3 America
1-2 Dega
1 Junk
2-3 Esper

I've been content with PyRos, but I'm also not good at tailoring to the meta; suggestions welcome.

I peak eruption'd one of the America players today. It felt so good.
