Z, this is proly a stupid question, but what pro events have you done in the past/can I see archives of them for inspiration?
Also, when are you gonna start streaming again?

Also, to everyone (but especially Z cause you are smarticles :P) I can't decide between making my deck for FNM closer to devotion or to pyro-red.
Only issues with going full pyro red is I'm not a huge fan of satyr (i recognise how good heis, just don't enjoy him), i love reckoner too much, and I only have 1 mutavault instead of 4.

I've got a tentative decklist (which I'd post here but, well, the threads name... I guess i can post it in a thread if I need too, which'd proly be pyro as it looks now, currently closer to that), but not sure if I should try to somehow fit in a few fanatics, for blowouts on stalled boards e.e

Edit: threw the decklist into the
pyrored thread. Please take pity on me masters of red mana, and share with me your wisdom ;-;

I've never played on the Pro Tour.

Streaming isn't going to happen until I get a new computer I'm afraid, I can't figure out twitch's issues with my current one ~ it worked fine* until the update.

*frequent viewers know what "fine" means.

Limited / Sealed I'm afraid; I missed GP Brisbane which was Modern. GP Melbourne will be Standard, so yay!

You might be able to find some coverage of Australian Nationals, I did well in 2011. A quick google doesn't turn up anything but a defunct registration form, which says all that can be said about wotc's support for AUS.

Enjoyed the article. It's good to know that some actually understand red decks.

I'd love to try Tymaret Pyro build as well, but I think I'll wait at least until the BR scry land is out (And probably with more toys to play with).

You could always mute it up if that was implemented.

There was a DE where the last opponent (Blue Devo) who kept telling me my deck sucks, and he lost to modo and not me. Other than that, I haven't came across any notable bitching opponents.

I had someone lecture me on how much more skill intensive GW aggro was than any other deck. He lost 2-0 after mulligans to 5 both games because that decks mana is fucking terrible.

PVDDR "the best positioned deck is mono red"

This is because, mono U beats mono U and mono R beats mono B. mono B locks out all of Mono R's bad matchups and promotes it's good ones (eg: esper).

So, more Villager League shit that nobody is going to read but I am going to post anyway:

I settled on this list. Right now I'm 4-1, losing only to (surprisingly) my best matchup. I unfortunately blocked poorly and it cost me the match. (Turns out Armed // Dangerous is a real card...?)

[deck]Actually Doorkeeper[/deck]

I might replace the Cloudfin Raptors with Sensory Deprivations permanently.

Cloning Mnemonic Walls and Archaeomancers and taking your opponent to Valuetown by recurring Opportunities is fun.

[deck]Mono Black Aggro v2[/deck]

I like this a lot more. Life gain is really good against against the aggro decks, and you can leverage it into more card draw. After realising that Yarpus is the smartest man alive, it occurred to me that Erobos would be perfect here ~ at worst he is card draw, but if the game ever stalls out, he's an unkillable 5/7. Either they're killing you guys (they're a control deck) and you just draw cards; or they're anything else and you turn him on.

The list looks solid, zem. Let's see.

- Sweet curve? Check.
- 20 humans for Necromancer to protect against Verdict? Check.
- 4 cards to deter attackers? Check.
- 4 cards to go alpha against non-black? Check.
- 2 cards to say no to Unflinching Courage and others lifegain tech? Check.
- Indestructible card engine? Check.

Though do we need some Nightveil Specter of our own? Seems to block most of our 2/*s with ease.

Also, Gray Merchant would be nuts if [card]Geralf's Messenger[/card] didn't rotate out.

While I agree about the Hellrider, I'm not too sure about the noble. Most decks don't play humans nowadays, and I could easily see him knocking over a tree all day. Those satyrs made fine replacements as for now.

If the mana is good enough, Tymaret is kinda fucking gross actually. Murks 1-for-1 removal decks.

RE: skill levels (any archetype) what always blows people's minds is when they make a great play and I tell them "saw that line two turns ago" or when I cold call their hand; being the beatdown isn't about maximising the damage you can do in any single turn, it's about winning the fucking game.

Aggro is about resource management. A shock is only ever 2 upstairs and frankly that's terrible. When you know enough to get more than 2 damage out of it, then you're getting the idea.

When it's:
R
"Deal 2 damage to target opponent. Search your graveyard for any number of Chandra's Phoenix and put them into your hand. Tap target Desecration Demon,
swing with your team for lethal"

You're doing it right.

Playing red aggro is not dissimilar to playing combo; with the added burden of not just having to assemble the combo, but having to play it correctly.
Piggybacking this. Killing your opponent is the highest premium you can get on your cards which people don't get when they play magic.

When you teach someone to play magic, you start with the basics, they master those, then they get to the intermediate level. Most people stop there growth here. Why?

#1 is lots of players looking to become competitive think they're better then they actually are and stay stubborn fools who can't understand why they're breaking through. After that, the biggest hurdle is "unlearning" the guidelines you've strictly stuck to when becoming an adequate player. Most of a game of magic is making the obvious play, but at the higher levels, everyone can make the "obvious correct play". It's the very good players who are
able to see past the normal shit and know to make the play that looks like it's losing value but also just kills the other guy or wins the game in 4 turns.

Speaking of cold reading hands, I played sealed 2HG today and cold called like 6 plays in a row ranging from obvious things like a read the bones that scryed away two lands and found 2 more lands to an opponent bestowing a nimbus naiad onto an observant eidolon. Unfortunately, drew that game because I'm terrible at magic and didn't play the Elspeth in my deck. I wasn't thinking about how long games of 2HG go and figured I'd be able to win fast with my deck of double fabled hero/phalanx leader/akroan crusader/fabled hoplite/wingsteed rider that ran off of 16 lands. SO WRONG.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.
