God, the brokeness.

I'm thinking about White Weenie tho. It has few options. There's token-based Weenie with cards like Precinct, Eidolon of Countless Battles, Brimaz, Heliod and his Spear. And that lifegain enchantment that can make an anthem. And then there's heroic-based Weenie with Fabled Hero, Hero of Ioras, Fiendslayer Paladin. Let's take a look at example of list:

Token Weenie

[deck]Creatures (24):
4 Soldier of the Pantheon
4 Dryad Militiant
4 Precinct Captain
4 Imposing Sovereign / Spirit of Labirynth (meta-dependant between main/SB)
3 Eidolon of Countless Battles
3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
2 Heliod, God of the Sun

Other Spells (14):
4 Brave the Elements
4 Celestial Flare
4 Path of Bravery
2 Spear of Heliod

Lands (22):
2 Mutavault
20 Plains[/deck]

Eidolon of Countless Battles on Reckoner and Anax & Cymede plus Murderous Might. Definitely magical christmasland, but it would wreck things.

Except for all the black removal. :(

Don't bother building decks or entertaining strategies that just fold to black removal because there's going to be plenty of it.

I think the printing of Revoke Existence means there will be White in whatever I play once BNG hits.

Thank you for stating exactly what's been on my mind for a few days.

I was actually telling Z this morning on Facebook that I'm pretty much resigning myself to playing R/w Devotion for the next few months simply because it seems like the only thing that can be good enough against Black and still pack a punch.

I have been waiting so long for a standard season like this.

Still no Hymn... but it's getting close to what I want out of a set.

RW devotion seems horrible. Fanatic wont be hitting for very big. SBD dies to HDF. Maybe you could explain why RW Devo will be
good?

Well, to be honest. I've tought a lot about that. I remember myself panicking when they printed variety of cards that were supposed to be an ultimate hoser of err'ything. GOD SYLVAN CARYATID YOU DIRTY MOTHERFUCKER. But then we just played games, and it was k.
This deck isn't hosed that hard with Blight/Drown. Look, I'd feel hosed if I'd play token-generating instants. Small aggro part of this deck could be screwed if your plan is to overextend the shit out of your hand. I'm not afraid of lategame Blights/Drowns with multiple anthems that actually do something and filthy token generators like Brimaz or Heliod. Especially Heliod. God I love him so much.

Red is bad now as it doesn't have an actual support plan.
White is cooler as those cards can take a game on their own, especially paired with Anthem.

Let's take an example.
T1 Dryad Militiant T2 Precinct Captain T3 Path of Bravery, swing. I get Drowned in my Sorrow.
It's k. I've dealt 8 damage, regained 2 life and still have Path of Bravery ready for... for example Brimaz.
Play smart, fuck bitches I guess.

I don't know if RW devotion survives rotation, but if it does, I'll be playing it.

The only really big adjustment is probably moving away from the 1-drop sideboard.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

If RB doesn't work out for me, which I assume it will, I'd comfortably move over to Boros Burn. That deck is easy and mindless. Young Pyromancer isn't really necessary, I could play 40-removal.dec comfortably.

I happen to think RB will be very good. Just have to have the right build. I think I'm going in the right direction with mine.

If not RB, Boros Burn is good.

I have played with it, and against it. How do a deck that wins by building a board state on turns 2-4 beat a deck running 3 Bliles main and 2-4 Drown in Sorrows SB? There is too much danger to play multiple ash zealots or BTE. I don't imagine Fanatic slamming in for 6+ dmg anymore.

4 Sylvan Caryatid
4 Courser of Kruphix
4 Jace, Architect of Thought
4 Kiora, the Crashing Wave
4 Sphinx's Revelation
1 Elixir of Immortality
2 Elspeth, Sun's Champion

Someone finish building this deck. Not sure how many lands to play. 27 seems right with 4 sphinx's and cards that like for me to see lots of lands.

If I believed all the Chicken Littles of the world crying about the sky falling because one color got a few more removal spells, I would've quit playing Magic a long time ago.

But since I have enough sense to remember how to properly play with a Red deck, I'm not worried in the slightest way.

If you play Thea Steels version(top 8'd the same invitational as erik) Mogis isn't even apart of the plan vs. mono-black.

With all the new black removal, is it time for this?

Image

Solves the Reckoner/Bile Blight issue, but regrettably not the "red only deserves x/1's" issue. Probably still narrow, but this + Charm seem worth considering in light of the black onslaught that is doubtless on the horizon.

Or just say the hell with it and come over to the dark side...the heck with cookies, I'm serving BBQ!

And toughness only matters vs. a specific subset of cards. The destroy effects don't care. You can always blink the creatures away from Drown with LI. Don't overextend and then drop LI with a hasty dude after they're forced to use Drown.
