redthirst is redthirst, fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. He was the leader of the Fires of Salvation, the only clan I'm aware of to get modded off the forums so hard they made their own forums.

Wait, but the whole point of the scene you're depicting was the irony of the curse: the gypsy or whateverthefuck cursed him in a monkey's paw scenario, giving him what he wanted.. i.e. to be thinner 'cuz he was a tub of lard. So if you were to apply the same curse to MTGS, wouldn't it have to be, like, "diarrheaer" or sumpin?

You're thinking about it too much. I don't think the gypsy went too in depth with those curses... like I doubtWait, but the whole point of the scene you're depicting was the irony of the curse: the gypsy or whateverthefuck cursed him in a monkey's paw scenario, giving him what he wanted.. i.e. to be thinner 'cuz he was a tub of lard. the one guy was like "Man, I wish my skin weren't so supple and nice. If only I could make it more scaly..." Boom! Gypsy.

I don't know if that's even true, honestly. Ham's stream had some loyal followers and for a while he wasn't even doing it regularly. People still watched and stuck around because apparently we had some type of amusing dynamic between the two of us.To jump back a few topics...
The problem with launching a new media/content/non-service website is that they rely on the people supplying said content. There's no innovative ideas left for an MTG-themed website that can be its sole appeal. You can't do anything revolutionary; you can only do the same things in a more appealing way.
Can you guys make more compelling versus videos than BBD and CVM? Can you make better MTGO videos than the CFB crew? Can you fill an hour-long podcast with relevant and interesting MTG topics every few days? Do you have likeable personalities for said podcast/videos? Can you produce relevant/interesting articles daily?
It's a lot of work because, unfortunately, this industry is all backwards: you need
high-profile guests and comentators when you're just starting out, to help you build a loyal audience, but you can't book them until you already have that audience.
Also, the VS videos are not that great. We're considering doing some of those at the LGS with Ali Aintrazi and some of the regular top 8 players around here, we're just scooping up some of the final pieces of recording equipment so that it doesn't get done half-assed.

Then the site in general has no point in attempting to be bigger than it is. Putting in work only for it to go nowherethis site currently can't take off as a contender in the online magic community. the people who "own" it have no interest or initiative in making money off it or being involved with mtg at all. it's also on not great forum software and offers nothing but a forum to visitors. you won't beat salvation on the forum front. it ain't gonna happen. so you have to go bigger than a forum, but nobody here wants to make a real site and i don't know how.
so what's to do? well, you should brainstorm some real ideas to offer the magic community, not forum articles, and when you have an idea try buying the site from khadaffi.
due to the powers in charge not wanting to do anything with the work put in is a set up for failure.
Also continuing to compare this site to MTGS and continually refering to the site makes us seem nothing more than disgruntled ex MTGS members. It hinders growth.
My suggestion is to create a new site that would be the MtG forum & community you want it to be and not be a site tied to past issues that no longer have any gravity in the present or future.

Eh, I don't think you should discount history so easily; it's where your viewers will come from, after all. It might seem a bit parasitic at times, but telling people that "just because they heard it on Sally doesn't mean it's worth considering" can be invaluable information, because odds are they've been there and experienced it, and hearing someone elseThen the site in general has no point in attempting to be bigger than it is. share that view improves their base of knowledge, making them more likely to enjoy their time on the site. Building a commune from scratch rarely works as well as the community believes it will, because without a firm foundation of information to base itself off of, there's no real reason for people to stick around when shit hits the fan. Standing on the shoulders of giants, etc.

I'm interested. But the only thing I have to offer is fart noises and randomly screaming HOOOOOOOCCHCHCHCHCH! I can't actually contribute any strategy advice because I'm horrible at MTG.Partially on-topic: Alex, are you interested in streaming with me on Saturdays? I like to play the Modern DE at 10 am PST.
After I wrote the above statements, I suddenly reflected on my life and wondered just what the fuck I've accomplished in my 37 years on this earth.
SM, you complete me.

If I knew how to Skype, that'd be fun. Though, I doubt I'd be able to contribute much aside from sounding like Zakk Wylde and telling you bunch of clowns to put your fucking hands in the air.Anyone who wants in on Skype is welcome. We had a fun one between Lazerburn, Raida, Alex and I a month ago.
In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

Agreed.I just realized something...
Remember that FoS movie script thing Khaos wrote about a month back? We never stickied it anywhere...
This needs to be fixed...
Red, we should just bring back the Embernomicon. The Prayer, movie script, and other fun goodies should be moved there for posterity.
In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.

Our definitions of awesome must be different.zem's angry all the time about everything now. Having an awesome life just pisses him right the fuck off.Is your inexplicable hatred of such a benign phrase some sort of inside joke that I'm not privy to?It saps my energy when I come here and people want to actually debate the use of bullshit like "mainboard"
