I meant I actually like sealed. Mostly because it's less hard to fuck up then draft :p

Seriously, listend to the Ben Stark seminar once and felt 1000x times better at sealed.

Draft, is much harder to get proficient at, but like everything else, you just have to play it a lot which lies the problem. It's much harder to find 8 decent players to get a bunch of drafts in then it is to mash decks against each other in constructed since that can be done with just 2 people.

Even then, you get my friend Vidi who was top 8 in limited win% this season not getting in enough limited practice and asking for draft advice on facebook in the middle of the pro
tour.
This. 100% this. The kicker is that your valuations can wildly change on who you end up getting podded with in the actual tournament.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, since I have difficulty catching up on reading posts here.

Ham got mentioned in a tcgplayer article! http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=11671

Sweet deck!
So I clicked the link and I have to see Frank Lepore's face staring back at me. Not the first thing I want to see upon waking up.

@photodyer - You explained half the reason I don't care for facebook. The other half is that it encourages social voyeurism. I'm trying to live a more interesting life rather than watching other people live one. Being broke makes that a bit harder to do, but it's still worth the attempt.

@limited - I actually prefer draft to sealed. I think it's easier to build an archetype just because I get more chances to find the uncommons that I need. For each round of the draft, it's like you can get a chance to look at 12 uncommons in the first 4 packs. Repeat that 3 times and it's a chance to grab 1 or 2 copies of the card that you need to find. I think the sealed variance is a little too high, but it's probably because I'm too scared to run 3 color decks. I should work on that.

I need to find that Ben Stark lecture...

Personally I like playing draft because I don't have to spend $200+ building a deck to be competitive, "bad" cards are playable (I am always intrigued by bad removal spells), how the format is dominated by bashing in with dudes, and how I have far more control over my fate than in sealed.

You actually don't have as much control over your fate as you think. Certainly more than sealed, but what's the difference between someone in draft getting a p1p1 Phenax vs getting it in their sealed pool? Not much. Plus the other players around the table are picking cards and affecting your choices of decks to play, so you still don't have total control over what you want to play.

I still prefer draft over sealed because the difference between the bad draft pools and good ones is much more narrow than the difference between the bad and good sealed pools.

This is what I meant, enough control to keep you from being completely screwed, but still not so much that it loses it's extemporaneousness.
this new draft format sucks
I wouldn't say it sucks, but I would rather have the third pack of theros. That is my general opinion for most draft environments, I would nearly always just rather do a triple of one set.

exception: coldsnap, it's just
terrible. Triple coldsnap is aweful, though it better than ice age/alliances/coldsnap, which was fun because it was the worst draft ever, comically bad.

What, the Blue Black god wasn't good enough to even mention? They were breaking new ground with that design and it should totally fit in your Nekusar deck. Card is seriously strong.

This post is 1000% sarcasm.
Played three-way two headed giant last week and me and my teammate won with 3 Phenaxs in play (for some reason :? ). 1000% serious.

Since we're talking about formats, here's my ranking of favorite to least favorite:

Standard
Modern
EDH
Legacy
Vintage (yay for sanctioned legal proxies)
Sealed
Draft

As you can see, I don't like limited formats very much. I've done OK at pre-releases and other Sealed events, but your fate is really dictated by your pool. While you can create your own pool in a sense with Draft, I'm just really not good at it and don't have the ability to put the time in that other local players do, so I'm constantly the weakest drafter in my pod. Therefore it sucks.

Yeah, rcw, sealed is way more skill than luck, easy. Some pools are better than others, sure, but that doesn't stop you from losing to a pile of commons that actually work together.

Sour grapes much? I understand not liking limited, but it's not like you have to put a lot into it to get decent returns. Do you know how much prep time i've put into drafting
outside of actually drafting? None (at least none since lorwyn block), unless you count reading over the spoiler or watching the magic show's complete set reviews (which are of dubious benfit but are excellent entertainment). And I haven't done worse than 2-1 in years. Remember bombs>removal>dudes>tricks and learn how to read signals and you'll have 85% of it down.

Given how people on every board that discusses the game all seem to hate it. I suppose I am guilty of it too. I love draft and commander, like standard and pauper, and hate the rest. So I guess to quote MaRo, magic is different games to different people.

Does anyone else listen to "drive to work"? Because I am pretty sure that MaRo both loves his job more than anyone else alive, and is possibly the most easily excitable man in existence.

Definitely sour grapes. My whole life I've been someone who either catches on to something quickly or just abandons it. Fortunately I'm pretty awesome and catch on quickly to a lot of things, but I fucking hate Draft. I have no clue how to "read signals" so I just give up and take the best cards I see until pack 2 when I need to be devoted to colors. Reading signals seems so incredibly anathema to me. How the hell do I know what was
in the pack before they passed it, and what they took? Maybe it was a green-light pack, not just that they're all taking green! I hate it so much.

And that's probably why I suck at it - I can't get over the mental block of being disgusted by the format.

the average FNM draft is 7 scrubs all talking about signals, who is cutting what, trying to pretend to be good, while one drafter just quietly makes a deck and wins (me)
