In the Firedancer-less decks, are you guys bringing in Viashino Firstblade?

EDIT: against mono-blue -_-

Z, I really like the changes on your current list. :) Your 75 is 1 card different from what I planned on playing tonight. I must be doing something right. :D
Ditto. I arrived at the very same list last night while perusing MTGO stats and poring over Zem's articles
and videos. Can't wait to try this out.
That's awesome. I got hit with some inspiration after driving home after a jam session. I just said, "fuck it, I'm gonna play cards that I know are gonna work.
I was really resisting pulling Firedancer. I enjoy going to the dome and hitting one of their creature as a bonus. So satisfying. Searing blood with Firedancer is such a thrill. "Toast your guy, you take 3, and toast that other guy too." So much value. Much burn. Wow.

Main deck? Not currently. I have been thinking about it, but I have no idea what I would cut at the moment.

My problem with Firedancer is that he's never around when I need him. Or I start to draw him when I need to draw burn. Or vice versa. I had a similar deal with YP$ for awhile also (which is why I rarely posted in PyroRed). Anyways, I got used to winning without him over the weekend, and frankly, I think running Chains main is better. Plus, I've been racking my brain all week with stupid sideboard plans that involved removing burn. Its weird when you bring him [Firedancer] in from the board, yet you remove burn from the deck. Or you play him main, and still remove some burn when sideboarding. It just drove me crazy. And when that happens, ladies and gentlemen, dear Uncle Khaos just says, "fuck it."

All my best games with the deck have revolved around Firedancer. Its won me games I had no business winning.

Firedancer -- the BTE of our deck. A blast when we have her, terrible when she shows up late to the party by herself. Id rather have my lady Ashy <3

Hey guys so Im thinking about hitting FNM tonight and Im going into the meta blind . . . last time I played a month ago I hit 2 control decks, 1 MonoG devo and GR. Is the
2 CTR
4 FDS
2 BO
2 MM
3 VSB
2 Sparky

Able to handle a shift in either direction( more creatures or more control)?

Is there a wider sideboard for a blind meta?

That is the sideboard for an open meta. I am still on the fence about Firedancer. I might side them instead of FDS tonight since I doubt I will see any control players.

Humans or Control? If its control I'll recommend BW Control over Esper Control since its better at beating Bx Devo and other Control builds.

Just a question for you guys that are more in the know around this deck and archetype... Any thoughts on Pyrewild Shaman? Seems good with both ash and phoenix against either control or GR and provides some reach as well as possible recursion back to hand.

Haha. Sorry, was eating between rounds. Yeah, the body is pretty irrelevant and we just don't have enough creatures to take advantage of either part of the card. Perhaps the biggest strength of this archetype is its consistency, and Pyrewild would be anything but consistent.

There's something to be said about all your cards doing the same thing. Also on board with 4 shock of rg is enemy number since killing music on the draw does a lot.

Yeah, the only way to get an edge on the draw is to disrupt their curve and counter their acceleration; so either killing a dork or getting them with a tempo play (eg: turn 2 courser and you have mortars, or turn 3 polukranos and you have chained) is the only way to make a game of it.

Alternatively, in world where everyone hss there own theme music, cutting theres on there upkeep is probably enough to swing the game heavily in your favor.

uauhhh! One guy move around a couple of days because the work and have about 8 pages of forum to read only in this thread :D

Great stuff. Real love the way that Viashino places in the spot I think before to put Stormbreath Dragon. Now no scry for 5 land for SBD and it for sure will be a much more coesive plan. With No Burning Earth and NO Firedancer I think I will go to a third Boros Guildgate. I sleeve 80 cards for tomorrow testing it. Last time I only see agroo and agroo and agroo and some midrange (only see one control deck), but I predicte that tomorrow I will see at least 25% of control. So tomorrow in the store I will decided the last minute sideboard - firedancer (problably) or firedrinker XD , maybe Chandra too.

For GR Monsters I think in [card]
Pacifism[/card] to be a 5th chained to the rocks, but I really don't like it and I think it don't fix very well in the plan. I think in Smite for some combat trick, but the deck don't have a real big number of creatures (the 4 Mutavault can help to the trick), but now it seems to me ridiculous :scared:

Mull to 5 vs. Esper, casually kill him when he tries to tap out on turn 5 for Blood Baron. Oh, you're tapped out? Boros Charm, Skullcrack you. Untap, draw, Boros Charm you. Extend hand.

Post board vs. Rx devotion, my 60 is this:

[deck]
Creatures
4 Chandra's Phoenix
2 Spark Trooper

Enchantments
2 Blind Obedience
4 Chained to the Rocks

Spells
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Mizzium Mortars
4 Searing Blood
3 Shock
4 Warleader's Helix

Lands
2 Boros Guildgate
9 Mountain
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
[/deck]

It's pretty grotesque. Most of my games end on 20+ life.

I took down FNM, but all I faced were bad decks and worse players. I'll make an exception for beating my brother with his UWR Control. That the was only thing remotely close to resembling a game.

I was curious as to whether Bloodfray Giant as a 1 or 2 of might be playable, I know it costs 4 but it has a decent upside (big trampling body) but can't block if you unleash it and no haste. Just a thought.

I don't dislike how you're thinking. Something big and scary at 3-4 would be playable; but we already have Viashino and Spark Trooper which serve a similar function in that price range.

@ Khaos - did you get to Viashino your brother?

Z- I didn't! Lol I've boarded the guy in now for 3 matches and still have never even drawn one! One of these days ....

Opinion time: I boarded into 2 Mortars on the draw in game 2 (- 2 chains, -3 shock - 4 searing blood, +2 mortars, +3 Firstblade, +4 Firedrinker) because I knew he played Dragons. On Game 3, on the play, I swapped Mortars for Spark Trooper. Right call? I never saw the cards because I had an aggro player's wet dream for an opener and killed him quickly.

I think either line is defensible. I also switch Chains for Mortars because it hits everything relevant. Spark Trooper is maybe a bit soft because IIRC UWR is all instants?

Mostly spells, yes. Charms, Helix, D-Sphere, Revs, etc. But he boards into Fiendslayers. Chains may have been a better choice, but I can work around a single Paladin. The Dragon was the clock I didn't want to be put on.

I let him read that, lol. We're at a bar drinking a beer. He's all riled cuz I gave him shit already about the dumb Paladins. Plus I'm reminding him about how Mutavaults are his biggest enemy. I gave him the Zem Special : turn 1 mutavault, swing 2 on turn 2, he shocks himself representing an Azorious or Izzet Charm on his Turn 2. I play a temple and pass so I can Magma Jet at his EOT and he curses. He shocked himself for me lol

Zem Special : play a turn 1 mutavault to begin swinging super early, thus saving resources so you can bottleneck your control playing opponent.

I've employed this strategy multiple times in the past, but now it has a proper name.
