I've been unbanned? I must have missed that...I... I do have to wonder, though, and I apologize for being the odd man out here, but what happened to that whole "if we get unbanned we aren't going to stir shit up anymore" thing from a few weeks ago?
Again, sorry, just trying to get a feel for the situation.

With a Polishing Wheel can't you grind down the Hills and continue to grind until the Valleys are gone?missed this one:Very little.Hey do you know something about electroerosion and surface polish?
I've never heard of superWhat's the cheapest way to get an Ra0.2 in a super-duplex low-carbon steel? F53 for example.
duplex, and I very rarely work with stainless. So... try a polishing wheel?
As you probably know, the surface roughness is estimated from the average height of the ups and downs of a lateral cut of a surface. think of it as hills and valleys.
Suggesting a polishing wheel is a very common misconception, because the wheel will only grind the hills, leaving the valley's/depressions unscathed, which will be bad for the surface finish because impurities and nasty stuff like hydrogen can lay down low there. If you get a badly polished tube where you put hydrogen, even if you vent it out and leave it in the open air, if you throw a wrench at it, the shock in the surface will make the hydrogen in the crevices detonate in contact with the oxygen of the room air. Its a very cool thing actually, it makes a funny scary POW!!! but not very nice for the fatigue of the metal.
So
rule of thumb: never grind if you want to have an Ra below 0.8.
Like...If you had to dig a hole and you dug the Loam out(Hills) then you dug the Clay out(Valleys) leaving you with Bedrock(a Flat Plane).
Lifting=Working Out Yes?Fight me irl do u even lift?
Yeah I work out, My body is mainly Conditioned with some Large Mass for moving Engine Blocks and Trans. I can Curl 105 on a Curl Bar so I think I can take you.
Naw that makes sense. That answer feels really wrong. Like, molecular hydrogen literally hiding out in unpolished valleys? I can't imagine that would have any impact on a duplex steel in particular. So rule of thumb: never grind if you want to have an Ra below 0.8.
When you work with Gasses they always go to the lowest place available if Density(buoyancy?) of the Gas is less then Air.
So it's just the same thing on a tiny scale.

Fuck I'm going to have to read this.Hey Stardust, I just found out people have been trying to troll you at least since 2007, and here was I thinking I was the first guy trying. But you were talking about hydrogen literally blowing up because it's hanging out in the valleys. That's what makes no sense to me.![]()

You don't understand how the Plan of introducing Guns for Teachers is going to work.Crazy people are killing kids, adding guns to schools will not make crazy people appear less. What is a teacher goes nuts one day? With the recent outbreakA school is meant to be a safe environment with no outside influences, no guns in schools thanks. Many counties in my state are debating whether teachers should be allowed to carry at school.
of school shootings, parents feel very uncomfortable sending their children without safety measures.
I say, if a teacher feels comfortable bringing a gun to school, knowing that they are deathly responsible for it at all times, more power to them. Protect our kids.
If you are too scared to send your kids to school and you care so much to the extent that you are going to push for firearms in an educational environment full of kids then you should just home school your kids. If your excuse is that you don't have the time then move somewhere with less school shootings. Like say, anywhere outside the US?
Step 1: Give Teachers Guns.
Step 2: Brinkmanship.
lol about school shootings. I always laugh at the people who say we have so many shootings here.
n
Considering 9/10 of people have guns and they still kill less people then Cars.

Shal, you could in theory, but keep in mind that the polishing wheel itself isn't perfect (because stone is not homogeneous, so grinding will do stuff like flaking in that entire microscopic parts of the wheel fall so it will always scratch the surface, making new valleys as you grind older ones.
For low Ra's you need some system that is homogeneous. for example turning stuff very slowly, chipping off the steel could do, otherwise electroerosion may work in certain circumstances, but the cream of the crop is ultrasonic polishing, but its expensive.
Technically you're right for natural gases, but hydrogen is lighter than air, so it will go up. the thing with the valleys/crevices is that hydrogen will slip there and the surface contact forces will keep it there, where it will substitute himself to the carbon atoms (because of the same molecular affinity, so on the long term the steel loses its carbon and becomes brittle.
Now think that hydrogen may be on the surface where carbon was and you throw something at the surface, shocking it: you make a mini-explosion which may help breaking the tube like glass (well, more or less, it will never shatter).
Where Stardust is wrong is that super-duplex steels have nothing to do with hydrogen resistance, its more to do with hardness and improved tensile strength, but if it has high carbon content, it will be vulnerable to hydrogen.
The correct way to check a steel piece resistance to hydrogen is to check the Pitting Corrosion Equivalent, which you calculate through the formula: PRE = %Cr + 3.3x(%Mo + 0.5x%W) + 16x%N
where %Cr is the steel chrome percentage, %Mo Molybdenum, %W is tungsten (I think) and %N is nitrogen

Just because more people die from cars doesn't mean that its okay.
I know that 4/100 deaths in the US are gun related and I constantly hear that thrown around but lets not forget that 2/3 of all homicides are with a gun. So yes, more people die from cars, sickness, drowning but one day it might flip over and it should be stopped before that.
And like I said if I was going to murder someone without a gun its a lot more emotional for the killer and I bet homicide rates would drop.

Cars kill 40,000 People a year in U.S.A.
Guns killed 8,583 People in 2011.
Clearly Cars are far more dangerous then Guns and Cars should be banned.
But regardless as proven in D.C. Gun Laws simply don't work and it's naive to think so. (D.C. has a Fire- arms murders rate of 12.46)

HEY MAN DON'T EXAGGERATE IT'S ONLY %68 OF MURDERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssand I constantly hear that thrown around but lets not forget that 2/3 of all homicides are with a gun. So yes, more people die from cars, sickness, drowning but one day it might flip over and it should be stopped before that.

than another doesn't make it "Not an issue".It could be 0 deaths from guns, that's all that matters. And lets not pretend that nothing is being done about car safety, just like gun safety its a long process.
Its a statistic that was used in a debate I saw 2 years ago when I was in school. I could google it for you but feel free to yourself.
