It's very debatable. Figure of Destiny, Grim Lavamancer and Goblin Guide are all amazing. I'm personally of the opinion that, in the abstract (so no consideration of format or meta), that Lavamancer > Figure > Guide; but format pressures usually dictate Guide > all.

It's all about DOTA 2, brahs.
I've been playing LoL to learn how to play the genre, then switch to DotA 2
Dota 2 now has a very intuitive tutorial mode so I suggest you check that out.

Just played a couple matches with this deck. No sideboard.

[deck]
Creatures (36)
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Legion Loyalist
4 Signal Pest
4 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Wardriver
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Lightning Mauler
3 Firefist Striker
3 Keldon Marauders

Spells (8)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Krenko's Command

Lands (18)
18 Mountain
[/deck]

I won both matches. I won two games on mulls to five on the play and came within two life of winning a third on a mull to five on the play.

This deck is INSANE. Even though the curve is low it feels like it has so much gas. Keldon Marauders is as good as I expected. And when this deck nut draws, hooo boy. Turn three kills with ease.

Only sour part of the night was getting hit with Golgari Charm on turn three with lots of x/1s in play, but I'm pretty sure that's not a real card in the metagame. Nevertheless, I won that game as well! Pretty crazy as the deck isn't
as all-in as you'd think.

I like it, but I think there is room for improvement in the 2 drop slot?
- Ash Zealot
- Mogg War Mashall
Perhaps?

Goblin Guide seems ideal, and maybe we should consider Contested Warzone...

Sam Black:

" I think the new Chandra is fine but not great. The most likely red cards to matter are Burning Earth and Young Pyromancer. I don't think there are enough cantrips for Young Pyromancer and Snapcaster Mage to be a thing in Standard, but there's always a chance. I would love Young Pyromancer / Snapcaster Mage / Goblin Electromancer / Think Twice / Desperate Ravings to be a deck, but I doubt it is. The instants just take too long to cycle through given the speed of the format. "

Thoughts?

Do you guys think Flame Rift can be replaced with Skullcrack or Magma Jet in legacy burn? I am trying to foil out the deck, and the foil flame rifts are expensive / I don't like the card all that much. Opinions?

This week has just been a barrel of suck.

My wife got sick on Sunday afternoon while we were camping with our in-laws. By early Monday morning, I was driving her to the nearest hospital, near as in 50+ miles away, because she couldn't stop the nausea and was feeling dehydrated. They gave her two bags of fluid and intravenous zofran to get her feeling better. She hurt so much yesterday that I stayed home from work to help care for our son. And now our son is also sick. Little dude threw up several times last night. I'm really hoping that neither I nor my daughter get sick.

It's looking more and more like I'll miss the Prerelease this weekend. That sucks because this set looks like it would be fun in limited.

Here's a quick question: If I steal a creature with Act of Treason and then exile everything with Legion's Initiative, I get to keep that creature, correct? The exile resets the creature as a new permanent
entering the field, which would wipe away the "until end of turn" clause of Act.

Red has an interesting new identity taking shape with the new core set.

Could there be a home for Young Pyromancer in a Grixis-style control shell? Think Twice, the Charms, burn, and Rakdos's Return could be an interesting way to utilize him.

Sorry to hear about
that. And damn, I thought the prerelease was next weekend. Holy crap! I may need to make arrangements for someone to watch the boys while I go on Sunday!

Goblin Guide seems ideal, and maybe we should consider Contested Warzone...
Zealot, Marshall, or both should be in here. I found Firefist Striker to be underwhelming because I generally just want to swarm the field with critters pumped with battle cry, Loyalist triggers, and/or Bushwhacker ETB effects, making his can't block trigger mostly a wash. I'd go with Ash Zealot first because she's so strong on her own. Her only downside is not being able to chain her from BTE.

It's likely that Keldon Marauders should just be Mogg War Marshall instead since we really want as many dudes on the board as possible. In one of my
matches against mono black infect I literally sat back and developed my board in anticipation of an eventual alpha strike just so I wouldn't get blown out by a Phyrexian Vatmother. There were a couple turns where I would simply chump block him and not care since I was getting two for ones with Krenko's Command. It's pretty funny that an all-in deck like this actually rewards patience.

Contested Warzone seems strong as at least a one of. I did find red mana to be very important with all my RR drops so I wouldn't want more than two.

I'd also be interested in looking into a similarly-themed deck with a higher curve for Hero of Oxid Ridge (or even Hellrider) for maximum battle cry synergy and more powerful cards, but that kind of deck could actually be strictly worse.

Thanks, red and val. She's feeling quite a bit better. We were mostly worried about the baby. Pregnancy and dehydration are not a good combination. Thankfully, they checked the baby's heartbeat, and it was at a healthy 171.

Right now, I'm hoping my son isn't sick with the same crud. Sick two year old. <<shudder>> If he makes it through today ok, there's a chance I can go to at least one Prerelease.

And there goes that idea. He just chucked all the juice I gave him.

Man, 'strider...sorry to hear that the fam is down with the sickness. For whatever reason, KC is BAAAD right now; I spent my entire night watching people stream into the ER at a rate of 3-4/hour (in the middle of the night!) and mostly get admitted. I truly hope you and Beth dodge the bug and that everyone recovers quickly.

BTW, here's your silver lining...dude just hawked his juice, but with BOTH of my kids at his age it was ALMOST ALWAYS strawberry milk--pink, stinking slime everywhere <flashback/shudder>.

On the game front, I'm still amazed that they're giving us Sanguine Bond, Exquisite Blood and a tutor in the same standard. I have no choice but to build an infinite life gain/drain deck with such tools at my disposal. If only Diabolic Tutor were on a body so I could Resto it...

Thanks, photo. You were probably seeing the results of tick bites. The woods are absolutely infested with the things right now. My wife saw a lot of that when she was working in the ER the other night.

Believe me when I say that I know what you're talking about regarding the kids. Two year olds plus the flu equals misery for everyone involved. The good thing is that Nic hasn't chucked since this morning, unlike 'liss who was sick all night and into the following morning. Hope springs eternal. If Beth and I can dodge it, then we should be ok.

All this talk about tutors makes me miss chaining Rune-scarreds with Phyrexian Metamorphs and Evil Twins in my Heartless Deck.

Oh, absolutely not. That deck had so many ways to win it was absurd: chain big, evasive monsters together to smash face; Havengul Lich + Myrchine gun 'em to death; wipe their board and kill them at the same time with Massacre Wurm, which was just gross with the Myrchine Gun and two Massacre Wurms on the field; stabilize and outrace with Wurmcoil Engine. That was fun while it lasted.

Hope the family gets well strider. I have been around sick toddlers and it's nightmarish. So glad I didn't have to deal with it.

Instead I have to deal with my hangover. I finally won a triple block draft playing a selesnya splash red deck. Turns out the options of going bear, bear, bear, with unflinching courage and ethereal armor OR being able to play a grindy game and then cast ruric thar makes a strong deck. To celebrate my victory(and 6-0 in games is good enough for me to celebrate), I decide to splurge all my winnings at the bar.

Per the usual, you hang out long enough, you'll talk to someone and get a free beer. Free beers add up then you get drunk. Then your sharing cigarettes with some wasted law school student with an enormous rack. The man who you where just talking with at the bar becomes your old friend and wingman as our law student has 2 hot friends and they're gay buddy. Game kicks in and you end up in
an apartment drinking beer, vodka, and having someone trying to teach you the game of snaps. Because of the intoxication levels of the crowd, we are unable to comprehend this game and the solution is obviously to talk louder which brings the cops over for a noise complaint.

As the party is now over, we slyly grab one more beer as a pretense for sticking around after everyone leaves. A gentleman wants to help right the wrongs he helped so after all. In this case, those wrongs being beer on the hardwood floor and empty bottles everywhere. To crown of the night, one last shared with the hostess is appropriate. While man and woman luxuriate in tar coating there lungs, a soft rain starts to fall. The pitter patter adds a sense of romance to the air. It does feel wonderful on the flesh after all. The beers finished. Guess it's time to go back inside. Since it's raining and ridiculously late, it only makes sense to spend the night. The lights dim. The blanket's peeled back. Bodies next to each other.
Clothes coming off.

And the next day you wake up at noon with a massive headache wonder if her nose was always big or if it grew over night. Talk about a beak. But that ass...
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I think we can expect to see the new Chandra in a lot of decks where she doesn't belong. Then, after everyone concludes that she isn't as good as the hype, they'll dump them or trade them.

At least, that's what I'm hoping happens.

Tamiyo is sitting at roughly $10-$12 at tcgplayer. How low did you expect her to drop, Alex? I'm genuinely curious.

I expected Tamiyo to hit $7~. She's very overrated, borderline unplayable.

LP....that was the best tournament report I've ever read. So glad Im back online and finding that you guys are still one of my favorite groups of nerds :P

On a side note, I haven't seen anything that really screams for sideboard inclusion for my KDW offshoot from this set. Have you guys been working with anything thats not super narrow? I did see the WU pain spell but seems underwhelming, but have yet to test.

So every pro M14 set review I have seen has raved about Chandra, which may mean she is the next Tamiyo...fuck.
