Don't be sorry, it's important. The extreme right/nationalist ideas are getting more and more popular all over Europe, and to fight it people need to be educated and reminded of history. At school I thought history was one of the most boring subjects, but as an adult I have come to realise that it is perhaps the most important subject.
The rise of right wing nationalist viewpoints is particularly troubling given the state of the economy. People are hurting, and they are looking for someone to vent that hurt and anger upon. It's a volatile mixture.
The biggest reason to study history is learning on mistakes and understanding certain mechanism that shapes the future. Let's take this quote as an example. Do you know how exactly Hitler got himself into role of Fuhrer, even while being Austrian room painter? Well. He did the same thing. After First World War,
Germany as one of the biggest losers of the war was rendered useless. You know how limiting some country's army size to 20% of their usual size works on a country that for 9 years focused on war and war only. Germany was ruin. And then Hitler came. He blamed Jews for the whole loss, mostly due to German-Jewish Communist and Pacifist Rose Luxemburg. Country full of frustrated people just loved to listen the simplest explanation of why their country is so weak now. It's not even their fault after all, it's all about these Jews. I have to admit that during this time, Antisemitism was growing in most of European countries due to Jews controlling a lot of factories and shops (so, the best part of whole industry).
What happens now? We have a crisis. Crisis which got started around 2005 by Americans. There's no blame in that, as it's all about them taking so many loans that American banks stopped operating on physical money for a long time. They had no real money, just funds that will profit them in few
years. That back-lashed on their industry which back-lashed on our industry, making chaos grow. But most of Europeans don't understand that. They don't know what the hell is the whole crisis actually. They only know bad economic situation, difficulties with finding a job, lower salaries and higher costs of living. That is why they are willing to hear even the silliest explanations of why that happened. Hearing "It's because US banks were giving out too much money during holiday season" doesn't reflect the actual thing pretty well. On the other hand hearing "Fuck Muslims" or even "Fuck Other Countries, That's Their Fault" lands on population which likes to hear these things. The core of polish nationalist party comes from football/soccer hooligans community.
By knowing the history you know how situation like that can grow. And that is hell'a scary.
I'd really like to believe it, but that's not our case.
He's just surviving everything thrown at him,
because most of his electors are old people willing to believe anything he says, so he can just go around yelling that judges hate him and the morons will continue to believe him.
For example, he's managed to slow down our judicial system enough to avoid being condemned for most of his crimes while still being able to tell people that our main problem is that the Evil Judges are allowed to prosecute politicians like him, thus preventing them from doing their jobs - and his electors just swallow hook, line and sink, because he owns the media.
He's just doing a fine job in dodging all the bullets, while the whole country sinks.
Never heard that kind of standpoint about him, but to be honest I'm not watching TV often these days. All I remember about him were customs-related scandals and nepotism. On the other hand he sounds like one of our politicians (deceased already) Andrzej Lepper. That ensures tragic-comedy. Lepper was kind of guy who had 50 crimes on his account (like for example
nearly-raping one of the woman working who belonged to his party) and was safe for years thanks to being part of a government.
I heard Greece has one Nazi-style politician who uses his political immunity to hound muslims. Like literally, coming with some of his friends from Police and demolishing Muslim's houses and workplaces.
Not just Europe.
Damn. I just realized that I have no idea about Japan as a country. I know you are mostly here for the talk about cards, but could you share a story or two about these nationalist movements in Japan (and political situation as overall) - some brief explanation would suffice. I might sound ignorant, but I have no idea what party system (two-parties like USA and Germany, multi-parties?) do you use etc.
