FE:A was very good for introducing someone to the series though (which is me). Went Classic Normal and just starting Classic Hard. The difference is quite huge.I acquired Fire Emblem: Awakening about a month ago, actually. Compared to Path of Radiance(the last FE title I played) it's a bit underwhelming. Where the latter could enthrall me for a straight half-hour with nothing but storyline and static background images, the former is basically a tedious repetition of "Commander! Scouts report sightings of the enemy up ahead! We need to prepare for battle!" -cue pre-battle screen- I was disappointed.

BLARGH!! Late night brewing for tomorrow while rusty requires help from my clan. Meta has A LOT of red in it right now, which I pretend to blame on myself showing the power of fire, ran my KDW brew last week but had too many grindy matches where I didn't have grindy cards. So heres where Im at at 11:30pm EST the night before...
[deck=KDStuffZ?]
19 Mountain
3 Mutavault
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Ash Zealot
3 Young Pyromancer
3 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Hellrider
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
3 Brimstone Volley
2 Flames of the Firebrand
Sideboard
3 Mizzium Mortars
2 Thundermaw Hellkite
2 Traitorous Blood
2 Skullcrack
2 Burning Earth
2 Volcanic Strength
[/deck]
Not sure on the board. Lots of red based decks (Gruul Jund Naya Mirror) a fair amount of Unflinching Courage decks and Jank. Debating cutting Maw for +1 crack +1 Strength/Earth
Also, I may be just
fucking losing it, but Reckoner being boarded in G2 against us, spot removal asap? I dropped both of my g3s last week to reckoner lines.

You're really ambitious if you're considering bringing in two Thundermaw Hellkite from the sideboard on only 22 land. Up that land count, son.

I think I'm cutting the Maw in the board. Its a great topdeck but I think I have to make too many sacrifices. Think those two slots may be better for shoring up the mirror? Just tested in some multiplayer matches to take a look at the reach, the Chandra draw is a damn god send if you go into heads up.You're really ambitious if you're considering bringing in two Thundermaw Hellkite from the sideboard on only 22 land. Yeah man! Being married is definitely a strain financially. Women cost a lot of money. We don't have to go get our hair done or our nails did. We get to spend that money on Magic.Today is the first time I've ever had more that $200.00 in my bank account at one time(aside from scholarship stuff.) Being financially dependent again seems to have benefits. Yay for silver linings!

Right? I'm seriously not used to having this much extra income lying around. I could totally ground-up build a Tier1 Standard deck right now.Yeah man! Being married is definitely a strain financially. Women cost a lot of money. We don't have to go get our hair done or our nails did. We get to spend that money on Magic.
Or Modern.
Maybe even...Legacy.

If you have disposable income and want to make a smart investment, buy AS MANY snapcasters while you can now and sell them in 3 years when they're 50 bucks. Right now, they're going for about 15. Another solid investment cardboard wise is liliana. Second best walker of all time.
Alternatively, Modern decks. Modern is currently my favorite format to play as I've finally gotten bored with standard. Pillar of flame is so lame when you know magma jet is around the corner...

You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.

Volcanic Hammer would be better than nothing. We would go from 1cc Sorcery (Pillar) and 2cc Instant (Searing Spear) to 1cc Instant (Shock) and 2cc Sorcery (Hammer). Not counting the overlap months with both M13 and M14. Sounds decent and plausible, especially since we get Magma Jet as well.

Well, we still have Annihilating Fire, but that's at 3cc so it's a bit awkward. Speaking of 3cc instant burn...any thoughts on Massive Raid in a creature heavy build with Young Pyromancers?

My gut feeling is that it's a bit too unreliable for anything outside Limited, but I don't know, as a 1-2? Mutavaults, BTEs, YPs...those creatures add up. One creature + YP, and it already deals 3 damage.
T1 FSD
T2 BTE + YP, FSD attack for 3
T3 Massive Raid for 4, Creatures attack for 6. Although MR on T3 is probably not the best thing to do.
T4 4 Creatures on board doing 6 damage, I'm sure we can find another point somewhere.
But is this too Magic Christmasland? Waiting for incoming Z-message declaring it crap...

We go to the ultrasound today to find out if we've got a boy or girl on the way. I'm not hoping for one more than the other, though I know my wife would like a little girl. I'll be content just knowing the kiddo is healthy. It will certainly help with picking out a name.
I'm headed out to FNM tonight with a friend. I'm vacillating between a straight R or Rb Young Pyromancer build. I like the consistency of R, but the flexibility of Rb is very appealing. It's grindier than I'm used to playing. Any suggestions for an unknown meta?

Try out my mono red Pyromancer build. Ive been testing it the past couple of days and I really like it how it plays against a broad field. We go to the ultrasound today to find out if we've got a boy or girl on the way. Good shit Kaze! Glad to hear you sounding chipper! Yes, marriage usually means never having your own bank account again. And the ladies love to spend your hard earned money. Add a couple kids into that mix and you are guaranteed to be broke for the next 18 years. FML
Valdarith, I started playing your Pyromancer build on MTGO yesterday and it's super fun. I really like the 4 Mortars maindeck. Aint no Loxodon Smiters hanging around here!

@Val — I like the look of that Pyromancer build. I'll sleeve it up and try a few rounds of solitaire with it to see how it feels.
That would be an interesting effect and would fit flavor-wise with the red/white king and queen legendary creature. I'm liking the top down design of this set so far.
And it looks like we're having another boy! I'm liking the name Alexander (even if it is super-gay
) for a first name.

Congrats on the boy, Windstrider!
And Val, I think I'll play your Young Pyro build from here on out. I was thinking of finishing the season with old-school KDW (pretty much what Khaos has in his primer), but yours seems like a lot of fun, and I already have all the cards for it. Plus, its probably a lot stronger against the current meta than KDW.
