Well, it's official: I suck at draft. Went 1-2 today, my only victory was a bye first round, and the other two matches I lost 0-2. Didn't matter that I got 2 Serra Angels, Garruk (Yay, got some value out it!), Enlarge, 2 Griffin Sentinels, 2 Illusionary Armors, 2 Nephalia Seakites, and a bunch of other decent stuff. First real match was against a UW deck that had lots of Griffin Sentinels and that 1/3 flier, and a lower mana curve than me. Second match was against a BR deck that had Intimidate stuff and too much removal. I tried making a three color deck with too high mana curve and too few removal spells.

Anyway, did some nice trading. Got the 3 Exavas I need for my post-rotation BR experimentations. And the best part:

Found 2 Akki Avalanchers in the store's throwaway common bin, so now I don't have to spend 20 cent buying them!

CONGRATS ON YOUR HUMAN TOKEN!!!

@Val, trying the YP deck on cockatrice. Involves a lot of thinking! Much more complex than first look. Wish I had watched the stream to see it more in action.

@freedom, I've put down my trusty KDW in this meta, or at least as we know it. Been testing the YP build and its a hell of a lot of fun. Lots of removal. Most important thing I've found? Fiendslayer Paladin is so a card. He only has 0.5 MD answers in Overloaded Mortars or lots of blocks. Weird from the board helps and chandra does a bit and , but he can still sneak away with a game if he starts wearing pants unless you have an expertly timed skullcrack. Any advice on dealing with this bro? 3 hrs till FNM :P

Also aggro/mirror, burn for value then chandra refuel? Been going -4 Noble -4 Cackler -3 LM +1 Mountain +3 Chandra
+3 FotF +2 Weird +2 Pillar on the draw. On the play in G2 is YP control? I think they have the better beatdown cards.
Some men just want to watch the planes burn. . .and most of them are here.

lorddax - play Boros Reckoner.

I've been dicking around with this janky build for a few days -

[deck]
Creatures 18
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Hellrider
3 Thundermaw Hellkite

Redheads 2
2 Chandra, Pyromaster

Burn 16
4 Shock
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
4 Brimstone Volley

Land 24
2 Mutavault
22 Mountain

Sideboard
3 Burning Earth
3 Skullcrack
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Ratchet Bomb
3 Traitorous Blood[/deck]

Reckoner does work against the Paladin.

One Piece Episode 371. Gecko Moria is one of my favorite villians ever I think.

More importantly, 'grats on the baby Windstrider. You can't really go wrong with baby names that have an X in them. Alexander, Xavier, Maximillion. You just have to be rich with a name like that. Call it motivation.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Correct. Although it will never be quite as dignified as the most dignified name I've ever heard in my life. I once met a guy named Charles Jacob Vanderbrink. It doesn't get more ritzy than that.

Truth be told I love all names that start with an "A." It symbolizes strength and sounds pleasant to me. Alexander, Annabella, Augustine. Your kid is basically guaranteed to either be an insightful author or a conqueror of Europe.
Also, just noticed this post. Holy shit, my middle name is Augustein, lol.

Yeah, well, this is why I haven't done a draft in over six years. I started suspecting I shouldn't have used them before the last game, but it was too late then.

Totes playable in any draft format where there are Hexproof creatures. I played a wacky draft (everyone brings their own 3 packs from any sets) on Tuesday where I lost to a "hexproof" deck because there was apparently a guy (aka some homosexual) who brought M12, M12, Innistrad. We had a few other people bring Innistrad as well, as well as quite a
few Gatecrash/Ravnica packs going around, so there was plenty of hexproof to be had.

^That looks quite decent. Good to know that I didn't totally scrub out on the draft part. I usually go with 17 lands, but I can see the need for 18 here. Although I think I would put in Verdant Haven as the 18th land, gives a bit more ramp. But do you really think Solemn Offering is maindeck-worthy?

Some thoughts:

I got Serra Angel as my first pick and continued to draft white and some blue fliers from the first pack. The Garruk appeared in my second pack and I just had to take it. Which caused me to go more towards green (although I had already taken some green in pack one) in the second and third pack, while continuing to draft white and some blue. I think I got a bit too undecided here if I should go with UW or WG and in the end I went with WGu, blue splash for the two Nephalia Seakites and two Illusionary Armor. And I tried a too cute combo with Gladecover Scout and the armors. This was a mistake. I've played so
much sealed with my friend and then a three color deck has often been a good idea (and often necessary as well), so I was a bit blinded to the fact you usually have a more solid card pool to work with in draft. I should have ignored the blue all together.

The Solemn Offering is pretty good since enchantments like Pacifism and Mark of the Vampire see a lot of play. Notice that it also synergies with Angelic Accord as does your Stonehorns and Brindle Boars.

To be honest though I thought that was a sealed pool minus black cards. The picks seem all over the place. If you had a draftcap I could go into analysis a little more in depth.

Adam Prosak is playing UR Pyromancer storm in the SCG Cincinnati standard event. What a baller.

He was the feature match in round one and won 2-1 vs Junk control, despite being blown out twice by Golgari Charm in game three.

One
problem I've had with earlier drafts I've done is that I've taken too few creatures. I think I did better this time in that regard. We had a nine person table, I don't know if that made any difference. I think I should have commited earlier to mostly two colors, I got a bit schizophrenic with green and blue.

I took a look at the enchantments and artifacts in M14 and at least when it comes to the enchantments I think Solemn Offering might have been ok. Didn't have many played against me though, which is why I wondered about it. I didn't try the Angelic Accord mostly because I felt that I would have to few options for it to trigger.

Oh well, perhaps next time will be better.

Honestly you're still low on creatures for GW but the curve is decent. I usually value removal very highly in the first few pics. If I draft an early Pacifism or Doom Blade plus a couple other quality spells that share a color I know what I'm going with.

I didn't see any Doom Blades or similar, very little removal early. I think I let some Celestial Flares go, because there was some other stuff that seemed better (I think at least one of the Serras was picked before CF). The low creature count in GW was probably because or the blue picks I took in packs two and three.

I don't think this card is going to be good. I mean, it seems really bad. It might be better than Stromkirk Noble in certain types of decks, but overall meh. Hope the red devotion card is better.

Not bad for a common, just not amazing as a 1drop in a color that has access to baller 1drops already.

I think so too, although I'm curious if we might as a Delver-esque build with this guy in tandem with Young Pyromancer.

I just reread the text, it's any spell that targets it, not just instant or sorcery. Does anyone remember MiracleGro Delver? (Played a lot of enchantments and Quirion Dryad.) It was a non-hexproof version of the deck that played tempo and stayed alive via countermagic. This guy has a little potential for that too. "I tron up my guy and make guys that can block while he gets in there...for value." I might explore something like this once more spoilers come around.

Yeah...a shame that Volcanic Strength is rotating...

Another interesting enchantment--

Gift of Immortality 2 :symw:
Enchantment - Aura (R)

When enchanted creature dies, return the card to the battlefield under its owner's control. Return Gift of Immortality to the battlefield attached to that creature at the beginning of the next end step.

It's not perfect creature protection (particularly depending on what exile effects are available), but it could be very effective against decks with little instant-speed removal. God but this would have been broken as hell with Restoration Angel.

it makes me want to try to brew something using it and Young Pyromancer, but we'll have to wait to see what auras, sorceries, and instants come with Theros. Right now it almost feels like the best thing to do is drop a Giant Growth on it pre-combat main phase, which seems very bad.

Thanks to NerdBoyWonder for the amazing sig!
Son, I want you to know that no matter what happens between your mother and me, it's all your fault.
