Does Curse of Death's Hold actually do anything right now? During the reign of BTE decks, it was almost a hard lock, but 4/4 Thundermaw Hellkites are still scary. I could see it out of the board against the stray Naya Blitz and Aristoctats deck, but MB seems suboptimal.

#sighofrelief

And curse is good. The plan against creature decks is generally to 1-for-1 them for a million turns, then land a curse locking out all the x-1's against the agro decks. You can usually save your counters for relevant threats because you have so much quality removal and tribute pads your life.

A typical game against a thundermaw deck like RG agro involves taking damage from like 1 creature for 5 turns while you kill everything else, and when you're at around 10 life, you usually have firm control of the game where there only cards that do anything are thundermaw, and MAYBE domri if it slips through your countermagic, the former being fairly easy to deal with.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Alright, that's fair. I ran UB control to a 4-1 finish at my local shop last week. I basically had a list like these, but a Rewind and a Far // Way instead of the MB curses.

As much as I like purphorus I kinda wish his and the hammer's second abilities were switched. I'd trade the hwaste from the hammer for the. Damage from making a guy with redgod

What LP said. It competely hoses aggro. Not optimal against midrange strategies beyond making mana dorks dead but still very good otherwise. Even helps in the UW matchup to negate Moorland Haunt.

Nah man, Purphoros is the best thing to happen to EDH since the Commander decks.

Mono red Burn Tokens is so looking like a thing with Magma Jet, Shock, Lightning Spear, Mortars and Flames. Young Pyro, Hammer & Pimpyerhoes to gain more value and then Chandra and Gauntlets to add reach.
Some men just want to watch the planes burn. . .and most of them are here.

2 things I'm noticing in the spoilers so far that I really hope means something, but it probably doesn't, but I'm going to hope anyway. And then be disappointed.

1. There's a crap-ton of lightning in artwork. I'm holding out hope for Lightning Bolt in the block
2. Erebos has 7 toughness. Why? He's indestructible!! Maybe they'll bring Mutilate back?
1. I was going to say "no way" they're putting an instant 3 damage spell in the block, since that would kill of a few more Monstrosity critters and stuff like the new UB planeswalker. But then they dropped Lightning Strike! Omg, that art is beautiful! I was totally prepared for Volcanic Hammer, but I can certainly live with that.

2. If they put Mutilate in, I will do a happy dance.
But I can't really see it happening, at least not flavorwise. Mutilations doesn't really fit the theme.

So, definitely quitting my job soon. Management's playing favorites, and I found out that the promotion to Assistant Manager is only fifty fucking cents raise. >.> Not to mention I asked around and every other store in my mall pays their assistant managers about $1.75 more. So, fuck this.

Time to catch up on all the spoilers everyone's raving about. I hope the Murder King is as cool as it sounds.

The Murder King doesn't disappoint me one bit.

On the fence about the U/B Walker.

So, like, three walkers, eh? I wonder if there's still more to be spoiled. Wouldn't surprise me given how they recently changed the rules.

Don't like the UB walker - the +2 doesn't effect the game at all and both -X abilities are worthless the turn it comes down.

It seems like a whole lot of do-nothing to me.

He's a 3-mana threat in the mirror, if that's a thing. With Restoration Angel rotating, UW has even fewer answers to such a threat. Just "drownyard"+ them for free four times, exile their hand, and win.

Is Valarin on our site? He's basically the worst person on the internet.

UB walker is good against control and midrange, and at best mediocre vs. agro, terrible most of the time.

He's a superstar sideboard card and MAYBE maindeckable depending on the meta you expect.
