I've been testing with a couple in my sideboard for the past few days and it has its uses. As an aggro deck, the cons of using it can significantly hit us depending on where you want to use it.
VS opposing Aggro
You are on the play post-board. Don't use this because you want to race the opponent. This card shines on the draw though since a typical post-board list would involve larger creatures on your end. It will be harder to use if you don't have too much 3cmc creatures on your end, as you will want to blow your bomb against 1-2 cmc creatures.
VS token decks
This is the best use of this card in any deck. The meta will never shift to a token-heavy format as long as this card is here to keep everything in check. That being said, we have cards like Young Pyromancer and Xathrid Necromancer[/c:
mbh4tq1w] showing up with the recent M14 lists, and my experience for the past week in my local meta warrants myself using this card in the sideboard. As a bonus, the card can also hit a transformed Huntmaster if the opponent is caught off guard.
Red also has Legion Loyalist that completely ignores tokens when you attack, but you will have to consider how the opposing tokens are being used. Legion Loyalist favors defensive tokens while Ratchet Bomb favors offensive ones. This is most important when [c]Intangible Virtue hits the board.
It also has a fringe use against UW control decks, but I really don't recommend it unless they are banking on Assemble the Legion to defend against aggro. It will also get rid of any Detention Spheres or Oblivion Rings they've played against you.
VS Hexproof
The bomb here has two uses. Get rid of the problematic creature/s, or get rid of the problematic enchantments. The difficult factor to consider though is their
variance of threats. They have 1-3 cmc cards spread all out. Mizzium Mortars or Bonfire of the Damned are cards you would want to use against them but both cards do not have the guarantee of being cast on time, one being only available turn 6 onwards, and the other most effective as a miracle draw. The biggest factor of this deck against R/x aggro is the lifeswing granted by Unflinching Courage. Skullcrack can only negate one lifegain, so it's important that you can close out the game before the lifegain gets out of hand.
Until rotation, Hexproof would be a big threat considering they now have access to additional creatures (Gladecover Scout, Witchstalker).
Viability
After the past few days I'm convinced that I should let this card stay in my sideboard until it doesn't warrant use or there are better approaches to the metagame.
