I have no clue what the hell I am going to play this Standard season. It will involve Rabblemaster though.
Yeah same. I just pre-ordered some Mardu cards, though. I know I want to play Rabblemaster and Stormbreath Dragon. The rest is up in the air, but I wouldn't mind having the Butcher card in my Rabblemaster deck.
Speaking my language. I was thinking some Mardu Midrange deck that was Heavy Red/BLack
with a white splash in order to play butcher and Elspeth. Don't know which 1 or 2 drops I'd run in this shell but my curve would be Rabblemaster > Butcher > Sarkhan or Stormbreath > Elspeth.
would you play 1 and 2 drop creatures or keep those turns primarily focused on ETB tapped lands and small removal?

I posted it already in this thread somewhere. It's basically just rabble red, but it looked much better then Tom Ross's deck(which was posted the same day).

[deck]4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Akroan Crusader
4 War-Name Aspirant
4 Mogis's Warhound
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

1 Hall of Triumph
4 Dragon Mantle
1 Coordinated Assault
4 Titan's Strength
2 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames

20 Mountains[/deck]
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I honestly think Todd Anderson made the best red deck that I've seen so far.
I was thinking of his creature base except -4 Warhound, +4 Monastery Swiftspear

Here's Todd's list:

[deck]
Creatures (24)
4 Akroan Crusader
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 War-Name Aspirant
4 Mogis's Warhound

Lands (20)
20 Mountain

Spells (16)
4 Dragon Mantle
1 Coordinated Assault
2 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Titan's Strength
1 Hall of Triumph

Sideboard
2 Jeering Instigator
3 Eidolon of the Great Revel
1 Coordinated Assault
4 Magma Spray
4 Searing Blood
1 Peak Eruption
[/deck]

The same Todd Anderson who emotionally manipulated his wife into giving into his selfish demands of being a full-time yet only marginally successful Magic player?

Damn, I forgot Peak Eruption is still Standard legal (I've only been playing it sometimes in Modern).

Ooh....that's definitely going in my sideboard.

Could go full 20/20/20 again. Haven't really seen that sort of setup since Scars/Inn red sligh with Berzerker and Shrine and Koth.

[deck]
Creatures - 20
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Akroan Crusader
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 War-Name Aspirant
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

Artifacts - 1
1 Hall of Triumph

Spells - 20
4 Dragon Mantle
4 Titan's Strength
4 Lightning Strike
2 Coordinated Assault
4 Stoke the Flames
2 Hordeling Outburst

Land - 19
19 Mountain
[/deck]

So it's really 20/21/19, but 4x Dragon Mantle should allow us to skimp on one land.

Anyone hyped by arc lightning? It's basically just a flames of the firebrand reprint, but I've always liked the card and early in formats, it's found it's way into my maindeck at times.

Yes, this is mainly why I wouldn't want to leave home without a couple of Hall of Triumphs in these mono-red aggro lists.

I figure opponents are usually too scared of combat tricks to block with Caryatid regardless (we have two 3/2 for 2CMC anyways), and I fully except more than half the decks early on using the Caryatid/Courser combo. Preventing a Siege Rhino, Brimaz, or any other tricky three drops from blocking should be value.

You have light disruption, go over every other midrange deck, laugh at elspeth, and are mostly 2 color which is relevant or beating aggro. The deck as posted is rough. Playing 3 cuts and zero downfall is just dumb. Not playing sultai charm is also questionable, but the overarching plan is amazing assuming control is as bad as we think it is.

Potential sideboard:
4 Nylea's Disciple
1 Whip of Erebos
3 Counterspells
5 Hand disruption spells
1 Soul of Innistrad
1 Agent of Erebos

The other option is adding some sort of hornet queen package to the board to sidestep back to nature instead of trying to grind through it with disruption.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Keep me updated on the Sultai list LP. It's good to see someone brewing the colors instead of another billion Abzan or Mardu.

Instead of the Deathdealer in my Abzan aggro, what do you think about 3 Heir of the Wilds in its place?

1G
Deathtouch
Ferocious — Whenever Heir of the Wilds attacks, if you control a creature with power 4 or greater, Heir of the Wilds gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
2/2

Decent chance of becoming 3/3, with Sorin it's a respectable 4/3 Deathtouch Lifelink, easy to cast, works good as a removal if needed.

Anyway, any deck I build once Khans come out is going to have a base of 4 Thoughtseize, 4 Despise, 3 Drown in Sorrow. I'll probably end up playing GB. Courser and Caryatid are too powerful to ignore.

I was able to get a case of ultra pro pro mattes for about 30 shipped.

Did you ever get a chance to look for any of the cards I'm missing? I'm itching to draft this thing IRL

Also, link to the video?

I posted links to my Youtube channel over in the Cube forum. I'm at work otherwise I'd link them to ya.

That's going to be tricky, your best bet for finding anthem effects is to lean heavily on Battle Cry and Intangible Virtue.
