Remember when everyone on Sally was bitching about the Lightning Strike spoiler?I'm very happy shock is back.
I just wish it was actually shock so I could use my pimp foils.

I agree. He means well, but he's on the Select side for a reason. In other news Anthony Lowry's articles are mostly terrible. I even really like GR agro, but I think his build, writing style and reasoning are all just...off.

It probably shouldn't?
The deck does a lot of cool things, but the formats to powerful for you to have a half aggressive deck with underpowered pieces just lying around. Doomed traveler and bloodsoaked champion are cool and let you do sweet things, but exarch+splinter twin is the sweetest of things.

The new thing is scum or idiot. If you're playing a good tier 1 deck, your dickriding scum that can't come up with his own ideas, and if you play a meta deck like tron or a brew, your an idiot because your just gonna lose to all the scum.
Nobody ever wins at this game.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

Sad that Cruise and Dig were banned. If they had stayed in the format I could have seen unbanning BBE but no way that gets unbanned when they ban other powerful cards. I wish WOTC would "police" Modern by unbans and powerful printings rather than bans, but oh well.
Considering they were going to ban TC and DTT I'm kinda happy about the Pod ban too. That's often been my worst matchup.
Back to my 'goyfs and bobs I guess.

Saying, 'blahs bad, your stupid, I'm the pro' helps no one and just makes you look bad.

Whatever. The new cards fit the flavor. But I still want to use my foil Pyschatog Shocks. And you would too if you owned them.

Don't play evolving wilds or plains. Play 2 windscarred crags and the 11th mountain.
You'd also rather have hammer of purphoros and more phoenix then the lightning strike. Red devotion mulligans terribly, so you want the VAST majority of your deck to be permanents to fuel the nykthos draws when you get them.
sideboards up in the air. Valorous stance should be there though as that card does everything. I'd consider maining a single copy of it as an extra removal spell that doubles as a counterspell.
Whether or not devotion is good depends on how aggressive the format is. The slower, the better as you just eat up decks that let you develop your board without pressuing you.

The more I play the deck, the less good I think it is.
The best shell for flamewake phoenix by a mile is with butcher of the horde if you really want to play the card(which I don't fault you fair since it answers a lot of the questions this format asks).

I see all these Red Devotion lists and they all look really bad. It's just not the same without Burning-Tree Emissary and Boros Reckoner.

Nah they do look worse positioned (given their card pool) against the meta compared to last year. Devotion now has lower creature quality than before whereas average creature quality has improved. Wouldn't touch.

The creatures aren't the problem so much as the speed. With burning-tree, you could have a handful of whatever, but it would all be on the board by turn 3-5. Weird>tree>nykthos fanatic take 5 on turn 3. Zealout>weird, burning tree reckoner, Chandra, turn 4.
Now, you have a normal curve with the payoff coming on turn 6/7 if most of your board stays intact which is a big iff, but the big cards are all good. The threats are all more resilient for the most part since there's no doom blade ruining your day. Unfortunately, you're still VERY weak to thoughtseize and closing is a lot harder when you have to pay full price for your cards through the midgame.
